When you are redlined, and the reds know where you are coming from, and all you want to do is get past the front lines and do something/anything. Its quite frustrating to be actually making an effort with so many things working against you.
The whole point of the cloak as it is now is to cross open spaces. If it can't even do that, its worthless.

Agreed. I believe it safe to improve upon shimmer given the current state of cloak. This may help to solve the problem you've described. Though we should be careful to prevent cloak from becoming a "slayer aid" again. |

I read the op, and it wasnt a htfu corny whatever the f ever, it was more of a cloaks arent intended to be a free pass into combat face first so complaints about the fact that you get spotted and therefore shot should really have you reflecting on why you're getting spotted. It is way better if you just forget the cloack, it is completely useless in combat now, I redesigned all my scout fittings removing it because I kill with scouts in time to time, and believe me, using the cloack to even hide, sux. If u have an excellent eye is really easy to kill cloaked scouts... So just forget the cloack, it is useless. In my opinion.

I haven't played much since 1.9, but wheni did I bought a respec and skilled purely into the Amarr scout, no other suit, because **** it that's the vision I was sold on when I first heard about the game in 2009, highly specialized players each with their own role, not all capable super soldiers. Anyways I started playing a bit again lately, not sure of all the things that were changed, but scout play had been incredibly fun and rewarding for me. Only thing I'm not too sure about is the scan ranges and precision and all that jazz. The cloak itself feels great. Just my opinion which surely means nothing, but +1 in favor of current cloak decloak times.

<-- does not run cloak anymore, it's completely useless. all I've been doing is pubs and fw so my opinion may not count, but I've used the cloak to run past enemies whip may of otherwise scanned me down or seen me running across the field, as well as helping dodge bullets when trying to run from a fight by virtue of slightly hindering the enemies sight. Not completely useless.

Id rather fit a standard active scanner than a prototype cloak field.

Cry about it. Your a scout not a assault go do your job and hack stuff place links down or whatever else shouts should do. If you see someone and you plan to ambush someone your gun should be out and you should be uncloacked to begin with.

Minja here. You do not speak for all scouts. I love the cloak, I use it as it is intended. For crossing open areas, and sneaking through the Caldari large socket maze, and whatnot. I still manage to do my job effectively.
Learn to use it as its intended, and not as a straight up combat cloak.
We already suffered with the super short cloak delay with the shotty/cloak insta gank. Its working as intended.

Honestly there is nothing wrong with that they did to cloaks. In my opinion its fine.

Wait...so you use a cloak to sneak up on people and you need more time to sneak up and shoot them in the back?
Cloak is more manageable now...best it ever has been.

You don't speak for me. I'm a veteran scout since closed beta who has every racial scout suit and whose primary weapon is a pair of nova knives. I never needed the cloak to kill anyone. I only use the cloak for covert infiltration and escape. I never use it to enhance my killing ability.
The cloak is fair to me where it is. The cloak delay is to ensure that cloaky shotgunners won't continue to abuse the cloak and thus no longer be able to instantly blap someone immediately from decloaking or -- in some cases due to previous bugs -- while still cloaked. Of course, I think the shimmer is somewhat too bright but I can mask that shimmer with the right terrain.
It was never designed to allow a scout to confront someone head on from the front and survive every time like how it once happened with shotgun scouts. It's primarily a flanking tool.
Use the terrain to mask your cloak. The blue shimmer can be hidden well enough if the terrain doesn't contrast against the shimmer while moving. Avoid running around shaded areas to minimize being caught. If I have to go through dark areas, I use my suit's sprint speed and/or stamina to get through while bobbing and weaving between objects to maintain cover. A dark proto scout can hide well in the shade compared to a blue cloak shimmer which doesn't hide so well in the shade. Worked for me so far.
Decloak behind cover and proceed after checking your corners to attack. Make sure to decloak far enough so they don't hear you decloak. That decloak sound is loud you know. Besides, by the time you get to them the decloak delay will be done and you'll be ready to kill by the time you get to your target. Worked for me so far.
Protip (not really related to cloak). The natural terrain seems to have some kind of effect on the TACNET. You can see a redberry through structures in the TACNET, but for some reason you can't see them through a boulder. Use that to help mask your profile while getting close to them. Remember, if you can't see them because of a rock, they can't see you either. The terrain is great for luring in redberries so that their scan precision will be at a disadvantage against the terrain. Makes it easier to flank and jump them. Worked for me so far.
One more thing. If you get caught while cloaked, use cover and speed to escape. If you don't survive, oh well. That person happens to have good eyes. You can't do anything about it.

Exactly. I hate it when I see scouts be too dependent on the cloak thinking it can enhance their killing potential when in fact it's mainly a flanking tool for infiltration and escape.
