DaReaperPW wrote: There is also a nice little factor that basicly every PS3 is the same. Same hardware, drivers, updates, etc. The same. Its much easier to find bugs this way, becuase if a dev makes an update, loads it onto his test ps3 and finds a bug, it should be replicatable on ALL ps3's. So in theory, if that bug is fixed it should be fixed on ALL ps3's.
Thats not the same for pc's. There are currently five different versions of windows that can run eve. Five. Each of these can be in different states of updates, there are something like 30+ different processors that can run eve. add in another couple hundred video cards, and hundreds of thousends of configurations. A bug that is not replicated on ccp's machines cause quite frankly they will all be really close to uniform, coudl show up on thousends of machines and not on thosends more. Thats the issue.
CCP has to have the player base QA because there is zero way to find all the bugs on every combination of machines available. Thats how it works.
My guess, TBH, is that:
1) the update process was too slow for ccp.
2) Dust did not make enough money to justify it going (but i doubt this)
3) There was a technology limitation on the ps3 that prevented ccp from doing the full stuff they wanted with dust.
4) there was a limitiation on PSN to CCP's network that caused them to not do what they wished.
5) something else.
The point i am making, is QA testing for the PS3 is EASIER then on pc. But if say sony has to screen it, it can slow down delvopment, and its easier to control a product on your own servers then on someone elses.
Agreed, QA for an almost totally uniform set of systems should be easier.
I feel like the initial launch and the following 1 month update cycle was terribly managed. The game should have never been released without all weapons for all races as well as basic vehicles for all races. We have seen the server side balancing ability that they have, why this was not put to much more use before is a big question. Cramming half baked content in without true in depth testing in to meet a 1 month release deadline would not have been a good idea anywhere.
Another thing that was poorly thought out was putting Dust on Tranquility. Everything we needed for connectivity could have been done via API. Daily down time for Eve and occasional emergency downtime only scratches the surface of the issues that come from this. Last time I attempted to explain this every one totally failed to understand so I will not go in depth on that again. Just think about all we deal with being stuck in the bounds of Eve mechanics and what we gain from it. |

Honestly, iv completely given up on CCP. When I get a stable desktop im not going to eve il be in star citizen and elite: dangerous.
If they were yo bring legion to ps4 or upgrade dust to that platform, il reconsider going back to their lying asses.

I honestly can't hate on his decision to invest into something that's being developed more openly plus CCPs past choices like the one that caused those protests for one of those expansions (Incarna? not sure which one it was) ,their decision to put the idea of Dust514 on the ps3, their decision to announce at Fanfest that they were giving up on dust and remaking the idea of an fps in new eden on the pc when most of their community were console only.
And now their silence on Legions development if it's even being developed. With these updates for Dust bringing more doubt for Legions existence.
Should Legion be on the ps4?

At the original question.
Tbh it needs to be PC as much as I would love it on the xbox or ps4 the hardware and nature of the systems is too unreliable. I mean a signal DDOS on psn and their goes a chunk of a corps player base which could last damage on them.
The PC allows open integration with EVE and even Valk with a open platform that always keeping up with the times. Ps4 and xbox are great systems but they are not suited to MMO game play. Unless PSN really knocks my socks off i dont think legion as we want it can be done

No, because: - Consoles delay content due to need of approval from console manufacturers. - Consoles are inferior hardware compared to even a budget $400 PC. - TVs are inferior gaming displays. - If you want to play on a PC with a controller, it is possible.

I think Legion was simply proposed as a consolation for a planned cut of development on DUST. If you pay attention to the news at all, you will see CCP has encountered some rough times over the recent years cutting several unreleased projects outside of EVE where I think they are sticking with supporting EVE putting everything else on the back burner until they can properly recoup. Therefore, if Legion does happen, it will likely not be any time soon (likely not even within prime PS4 lifecycle). DUST is at least a released piece of CCP software that is bringing in a little revenue which is why we've seen the development spike it is having. I am not sure how much longer that will last though and even then there is the worry of Sony cutting PS3 PSN support (or at least moving to subscription).

This makes no sense, monitors and T.Vs are the same. only difference is that monitors are for computers. - If you want to play on a PC with a controller, it is possible. You are so full of fail mate.
- Delayed content is working out great for Dust 514. LEL. - PCs are in fact cheaper than a console, given the same performance requirements such as only 720p and 30 frames/s (and if you pay $400 you can play in 1080p with todays cheap PC components). - Good PC monitors have 144 Hz native update rate, 1440p or 4K resolution, G-sync technology, 1 ms input lag. You will not be seeing any of this in a console for 10 years (if consoles even exist by then as a concept). TVs are 60 Hz, high input lag 10-50 ms, low resolution.
