Hi Mr. Brainwashed, what if I told you I never pay above $20 for console games and have every major console release since before sept 2013? Which of course would be much sooner than I get those types of deals on a PC. What if I also told you that consoles library >>>>>>>>>> PC...Here I will just mention developers with 15+ games a peice that are insanely awesome, most likely million+ sellers, and console exclusive. nintendo games by themselves just completely obliterate the PC exclusive library, square, konami, capcom, EA, ubisoft, Rockstar, Enix, Koei, Sony, bungie, Rare, Sega, TakeTwo Interactive,... I am sure I left out about 50% of the development houses here. There has never been a year when console's game lineup didn't just crush the PC's lineup, and the fact that Console games market is approx 5 times larger than the non-mmo PC market kind of proves my point. Oh and if you use ROMs you are pretty much a thief.. have fun with that. (people wonder why developers shy away from the PC crowd lol) You are right, there is no comparison, just in electricity saving alone I can afford PSPlus (i.e. 24-36 good FREE games per year.. every year) Consoles are nice but a PC is essential, There are very few good strategy games on console, its pretty much a whole genre you are excluded from, no Civilization, no Planetary Annihilation, no Company of Heroes, NO EVE-ONLINE. I really like my ps3 but it could never be an alternative to a PC, only a supplement. Also PC gaming revenue is projected to surpass console gaming in 2014 and it was pretty close in 2013.
Nope B.S. article. I know the one you speak of.
Here is a list of the top 25 game companies revenue wise
You know what you see on there mostly? Console makers and bull-**** chinese/korean/japanese MMO makers. If you take MMOs out of the PC gaming revenue, it shrinks to 1/5th the size of console gaming.
So unless you want gaming to mean "bullshit chinese/korean MMOs" then no, PC gaming is not catching up.

It would be kinda lame to exclude games that I would not play, no doubt the pc market is driven alot more by free to play and mmo games then console (for now), China/Korea still pirate alot so that also skews numbers, PC gaming revenue is going forward in a big way compared to just a few years ago.
My main point was that the back-catelogue of cheap/free **** a PC uses has access to is amazing, not to mention all the indie gems and free to play games.
I love my ps3 for pixeljunk with friends, guitar hero and amazing exclusives like the souls games, but for someone on a limited budget who likes to try/play alot of different games the pc cant be beat.. And yes I am probably getting a ps4 aswell at some point, just have not found a reason yet :p |

my ps3 has been going strong since 2009 now, i have some games which are over 30 years old as well. some things however i get bored of within a year!
it doesn't matter what age something is, just enjoy the games from all eras, that's the only way to fully appreciate gaming, I have no respect for people who only want to jump from next big thing to next big thing.
The PS3s life cycle should show you something, consoles will last, plus because they won't change much in the future they can't bring new ones out quickly or the market will be saturated and then the market will crash.
it will probably happen eventually, but the day we have no more physical products is the day I give up on modern gaming!

Seriously, gaming in china is basically a FULLY SEPARATE market from the rest of the world. This is why their inclusion is laughable. You can't really take and include a completely isolated and exclusionary market (i.e. china) and use it for an example on how well PC gaming as a whole is doing.

If by viable, you mean ****** like the Ps3, then yes. It's not like the PC is going to lose functionality. Is going to run everything that it used too. If you mean cutting edge, then no, you'll have to upgrade it some-something you can't do on a console. Are console gamers really this ignorant? we upgrade when we buy a new console now just answer the question can i spend $400 dollars on a gaming laptop and play the best games on the market right now and 7 years from now. also you keep trashing the ps3 yet the Last of us which was a ps3 exclusive was the Game of the Year followed by GTA V which was a console exclusive. $400 is the going price of a ps4 thats why i use hat as my benchmark pc game are way better and,gta V suck camel ass.

You dont need to upgrade your PC machine, and if you chose not to, it will peform at "PS3" level of performance and graphical fidelity.
Take my PC.
I still use an E8400 CPU processor. Its just a Dual core. And, after 6, 7 years of use, it still delivers. I play whatever I want without complaints.
Now my GPU. I use a GTX 570. This GPU I bought like 3 years ago as an upgrade froma 9800gtx wich lasted 4 years then broke due a power outage.
So, my system is old if you compare it to the actual platforms.
But I still can play games like the recent released Tomb Rider at pretty much maximum. I play shooters near maximum as well, without complaints.
So far, my machine has not rejected any game I wished to play on it.
I could upgrade now if I wanted, porbably will do so next year by just gettign a new GPU/mobo/Ram, and using the old parts like GPU, case, HDD's, so it wont be a huge investment.
But I will uograde more out of a desire of having a new shinny than because I need to.
I smell a bottleneck
Yup, you smell right. It could perform better, will do after I upgrade some parts, but it performas fine now, so no hurry. |

I dont really feel that holding me back as long as gaming goes.
That CPU is a pretty good overclocker, so its runing at 3.6ghz (on stock air). Since most games are single threaded, its not really an issue. I feel it more when multitasking of trying to run applications on the background.
What I miss the most is more ram (have 4gb) adn an SSD. I could easily get the ram, but would prefeer to buy the actual tech, not the old DDR2 ones, so I am holding off to get a CPU/Mobo/Ram kit at once.
Will probably get an unlocked I5, but the I7 seems attractive as it would allow me more power to create and run virtual pcs inside my pc. It woudl be nice to learn more about servers and database aplications without messing with my main pc instalation. |

Oh if you followed your logic, which is pretty dumb I must admit, then gaming in general has absolutely no room for even mid-level graphics cards, because almost all of the "MMOs" that make up china's market are browser based.
Im sure the Chinese developers making Dust and Legion would disagree with you. How about the Chinese Eve server? I guess they don't count since we can't play on it, right? (Even though we can, but it's a bit tricky. Go read up on Chribba's adventures on the Chinese server.)
Then there's Tencent, the fifth largest internet company in the world (after Google, Amazon, Ebay and Facebook). They own a majority stake of Riot games, who make League of Legends, and they own a good chunk of Epic, who make Unreal Engine (You know, the engine running Dust and Legion).
Not sure if you're racist or just dumb. |
