I say this because a decent gaming PC cost $1000 and does not last half the lifetime of a console sorry its the truth playstation 3 came out in November of 2006. what gaming laptop will last seven years let me know? it must be noted that ps3 will probably be supported for an additional 2 years bringing its total viable gaming life cycle to 9 years.
Im not a big fan of laptops for gaming.
If you dont mind reducing the eye candy for framerate a gaming pc can have a pretty long lifespan, a good 1k$ gaming desktop should have you set up for atleast 3-4 years, it only really gets expensive if you want the eye-candy for future games.
For a game like Legion and other competitive shooters people will just reduce the detail to get framerate so the lifetime of the system will potentially be alot longer without in any way compromising the ability to compete.
No console will ever give you the versatilty of a more expensive pc, but even if the focus is gaming only the price difference is not as big as some people think, I often use my 55" tv (and a controller) with my pc (Skyrim+High def textures <3) but I really have come to appreciate consoles, they are not an alternative to the pc tho (Great supplement, especially for local multiplayer, exclusives and media center) |

I am sorry I can't hear you over all of the amazing exclusives I am playing.
See that is what you sound like, that is the conversation you are trying to engage in. You no longer want to talk about price efficiency, you just want to compare virtual dong sizes.
sigh... what else should I have expected from PCmasterracists.
If you think consoles have more and better exclusives than PC, you don't know where to look for good PC games. ORLY? I am going to have to guess even you masterracists buddies are not going to back you up on this one. You would be wrong. PC exclusives: Pretty much every strategy game (Total War, AirLand Battle, etc.), mmo (Eve, Wow, Guild Wars2 etc.) and space sim (Elite: Dangerous, SC, X series, Eve). DayZ, Rust, Kerbal Space Program, Legion (*snicker*), Arma2/3 and about one billion other fps games, every hardcore simulator (cars, planes, wood chippers, goats), MOBA's (LoL, Dota etc.) and a metric f**kton of other games I can't remember. Your turn. So what is your time frame here? I mean are we talking all time? last few years? be specific. Mario alone (yes just the mario series) has a larger footprint across gaming, the industry, and our culture as a whole than everything listed above put together 10 times over. (Hey we weren't being specific were we?)
The vast majority of games ever made are PC exclusives, alot of the timeless classics available on steam dirt cheap, all the best indies come on PC, Pretty much all the best free to play are pc only, two decades worth of abandonware for free, emulators for every older console/system (MAME <3).
There is no comparison on potential value for money comparing PC to Console. |

People who buy alot of games will quickly save ALOT of money thru Steam sales.

Hi Mr. Brainwashed, what if I told you I never pay above $20 for console games and have every major console release since before sept 2013? Which of course would be much sooner than I get those types of deals on a PC. What if I also told you that consoles library >>>>>>>>>> PC...Here I will just mention developers with 15+ games a peice that are insanely awesome, most likely million+ sellers, and console exclusive. nintendo games by themselves just completely obliterate the PC exclusive library, square, konami, capcom, EA, ubisoft, Rockstar, Enix, Koei, Sony, bungie, Rare, Sega, TakeTwo Interactive,... I am sure I left out about 50% of the development houses here. There has never been a year when console's game lineup didn't just crush the PC's lineup, and the fact that Console games market is approx 5 times larger than the non-mmo PC market kind of proves my point. Oh and if you use ROMs you are pretty much a thief.. have fun with that. (people wonder why developers shy away from the PC crowd lol) You are right, there is no comparison, just in electricity saving alone I can afford PSPlus (i.e. 24-36 good FREE games per year.. every year)
Consoles are nice but a PC is essential, There are very few good strategy games on console, its pretty much a whole genre you are excluded from, no Civilization, no Planetary Annihilation, no Company of Heroes, NO EVE-ONLINE.
I really like my ps3 but it could never be an alternative to a PC, only a supplement.

I really like my ps3 but it could never be an alternative to a PC, only a supplement. Also PC gaming revenue is projected to surpass console gaming in 2014 and it was pretty close in 2013. Nope B.S. article. I know the one you speak of. Here is a list of the top 25 game companies revenue wiseYou know what you see on there mostly? Console makers and bull-**** chinese/korean/japanese MMO makers. If you take MMOs out of the PC gaming revenue, it shrinks to 1/5th the size of console gaming. So unless you want gaming to mean "bullshit chinese/korean MMOs" then no, PC gaming is not catching up. Gaming Broken down by segments
It would be kinda lame to exclude games that I would not play, no doubt the pc market is driven alot more by free to play and mmo games then console (for now), China/Korea still pirate alot so that also skews numbers, PC gaming revenue is going forward in a big way compared to just a few years ago.
My main point was that the back-catelogue of cheap/free **** a PC uses has access to is amazing, not to mention all the indie gems and free to play games.
I love my ps3 for pixeljunk with friends, guitar hero and amazing exclusives like the souls games, but for someone on a limited budget who likes to try/play alot of different games the pc cant be beat.. And yes I am probably getting a ps4 aswell at some point, just have not found a reason yet :p |
