TRUE. There is no reason why a TAnk should have lower db than a heavy frame.

How many times will I have to say this: no. Use your ears and eyes to spot that tank, as you can hear it from far away. You have no excuse if your situational awareness is bad. Information must be earned, not given.
Or how about this? *Que tears down the face* "Those heavies! I hate it when one sneaks up on me from behind and knifes me, especially when I'm in my scout suit! Technically, it doesn't outside of odd bugs when they don't show up at all.
They still follow the rules of passive scanning though, and that means you must be in range to pick it up. For most suits that is extremely short range.
I think tanks should appear on radar for as far as blasters can reach, so like 150m. |

Ok crutch boy. Sadly, the Noise of TANKS is not HIGH enough. Constant visaul Contact with enemy tanks is hard and is VERY map dependant.
Now, ,if i have 2 Complex Precision enhancers , Scan precision on 5, on a Gal scout with 2 Complex range amplifiers...
GIVE ME A GOOD REASON WHY I CAN DETECT enemy scouts and Med frames 40 mts away but i cant see a tank sneaking behind me.

You may now leave this thread with your "Im a poor widdle tanker and have to deal with these OP infantry that can't even hurt me get angry whenever i pull out my win-machine that can easily kill each and every one of them" whinings. The whole of scrub tanker kind needs to stop it--it pisses me off.
Also, lets just examine the advantages of a tank compared to a drop suit, shall we? Tank is faster Tank regenerates HP faster Tank has more HP Tank has more range and damage Tank has AV and AI capabilities at the same time Tank is invisible to passive scans Tank is invulnerable to all non-tank fire Tank requires less teamwork to win
So why exactly are you complaining?

Dude..... you need to pay more attention then. You can hear them from 50m away.... I mean sure I am a Tanker but sound awareness is key to identifying HAV types and locations.
Give it a try, an hour or two and you can do it as well.

my good friend Adamance... That is NOT A REASON why a Tank should have better dampening tahn ANY suit. Your point , is invalid. Vehicles have a huge scan profile, like 150db, it's just been bugged forever. As far as picking them up by sound, doesn't really help when there are numerous vehicles on the field with no way to differentiate between friendly and enemy plus sound lag plus they are all stupidly fast plus the fact that the sound doesn't do a great job of helping place them without good phones and/or surround sound. Imo, they should be permanently visible (as they were most likely intended to be) until stealth mods and counters are introduced for vehicles. |

Perhaps there is a problem with passive scan picking up vehicles within the passive scan radius. If it's a bug, I'm all for it to being fixed.
Those who commented on me (you could've been more polite and intelligent by the way), I was saying why vehicles and tanks shouldn't be an exception to passive scan. It's all about earning your information and having situational awareness. Not having situational awareness is not an excuse to moan about tanks sneaking up on you. Even I can hear other tanks when I'm in my own and I'm not even using a headset; I at times stop dead in my tracks to get a better ear on my surroundings. If the constant pulsating sound given off by tanks isn't enough for you, then whenever they fire it should be a dead giveaway that there's a tank nearby. But if you still fail to hear them before they 'sneak' up on you, then it's entirely your fault.

What you are saying is that if im a DEAF person, im not allowed to Enjoy Dust514? That if , because im out of work TOO late EVERYDAY ,and i have to play with VERY low volume, then i must just accept my fate, so that tankers can keep being Radar invisible?
NEIN.
You.are.wrong.
You know what, considering the THREAT they are, Tanks should ALWAYS be on every infantry men radar at a MINIMUM range of 50mts, regardless their sp investment on E-war skills....

It not a reason no....I never said it was. Only suggested that it was in fact a way you could identify and acknowledge the presence of enemy HAV units on the battlefield.

Your personal problems are your own. You can't ask for a game to be catered to you because of your personal problems.
I find what you asked to be just plain wrong. Well what if a BLIND person wanted to enjoy Dust? I'm sorry but your comment is unacceptable. What if you were missing your legs but you really wanted to go mountaineering or rock climbing? You probably could, depending on how good you are, but there's no doubt that it will be a lot harder on you than someone that's able.
On your last statement, what if I made a counter-argument and said that because of the threat that AV infantry poses to my vehicle, they should always be on my TacNet at a minimum range of 50 meters. It's like asking that no AV grenadier should be able to get within throwing distance of me, simply because I'm in a vehicle with better electronics systems so I should be able to detect you as well no matter what.

Sadly, the Noise of TANKS is not HIGH enough. Constant visaul Contact with enemy tanks is hard and is VERY map dependant. Now, ,if i have 2 Complex Precision enhancers , Scan precision on 5, on a Gal scout with 2 Complex range amplifiers...GIVE ME A GOOD REASON WHY I CAN DETECT enemy scouts and Med frames 40 mts away but i cant see a tank sneaking behind me. Dude..... you need to pay more attention then. You can hear them from 50m away.... I mean sure I am a Tanker but sound awareness is key to identifying HAV types and locations. Give it a try, an hour or two and you can do it as well. I only have stereo and because dust 514's sound engine is terrible at times, its feasible for an HAV to sneak up on me. now... vehicle call downs you cannot hide at least. Fair call... I don't know if my headphone affect this....additionally I also like to stop and power down my own engines to get a clear listen to what I might be driving into.

Your suit has a maximum detection range. You want to see tanks further out? Put on range extenders.
So basically, you're telling me, that you are both deaf AND blind?
Have you seen the huge change of ambient light that is splayed in front of a tank? I can walk across the map, look around and say, "I see lights over there, so it must be a vehicle".
Then there's the sound... "OH wait, that noise approaching sounds like a tank (turns camera) Yeah it's on the road to my left, so this area is clear"
I have NEVER encountered a tank where I did not expect one while running the ground game.
Sorry that my ground game far exceeds yours due to me being competent. But that's not an excuse to start crying.

How many times do I have to say, that if you can't even hear a tank right behind you, it's your own damn fault? Just like that one sniper on Line Harvest in the hills, I was bouncing my tank up and down the hill, when I came up right behind him and that's when I spotted him for the first time. Well, his awareness must've been awful, because I had the time to think about jumping out and shooting him with my rifle (because I didn't want to give my rail tank away just yet), look at him to see that he had over 500 armor, decide that I'd just have to use my railgun, line up the shot, and blast him to kingdom come.

It's not ignorance.....we are very loud, have head lights we can't turn off, and our turrets can be heard across the map.

I mean if you're that much worried about tanks, just find a safespot and pull open your tactical map and scan the map for any tanks that don't have a blue diamond. I always scan the map while I wait for my spawn timer to be up-to-date on enemy vehicle movements and numbers.

I don't have surround sound, I turn the camera (as noted above) when I hear a tank because the speakers change volume slightly depending on what direction you are facing, and I find it easy to keep track of where allied tanks are headed.
The only vehicle that I'm ever surprised by are LAV's because they can turn much faster than tanks can, I have no problems with them however, because I can usually get out of the way in time.
Also, with only 3-4 major ground routes per battlefield, it kind of pays to take note of the busy sections to help determine where tanks are, and where they are headed.

Well on the subject of tanks profile, maybe they shouldn't be perma visible on the minimap or carry a large kick me sign on the tacnet. But having played with all the different dropsuits and various ranges I can say that at times you definitely can't detect tanks even when they are in range of your passive scans but the same is true for dropships as well.
Along with this at times on the tacnet itself vehicles simply vanish in an out or don't render at all. It would appear that currently line of sight makes vehicles function properly on the minimap an tacnet but when you don't have line of sight on them they sometimes evade detection well within range. If this is how they will function then so be it however if some of this is due to a bug or glitch then it should be squashed.
p.s. @ Harpyja Snipers are easy to sneak up on in this game due to the campy nature the sniper rifle promotes. Because of this when sniping you try an get the most out of the position you are in while aiming down the sights. Which however greatly draws your focus away from your surroundings; its the crux of the playstyle.

The Decibel is a type of scale, not specifically related to sound, but yes sound (among many other things) is sometimes measured in Decibels.

If you can see it on the overhead map, you should be able to see it on the radar mini-map too.
We have this tacnet AI thing - what is it doing for us again? Apparently not relaying important information like there's a big ass tank moving at 40m/s 120m away.
And yes I can hear the sound but that sound is audible from 100m+ away and unless you're in open ground, it's impossible to tell where it's coming from.
We have these fancy suits that can tell us where quiet infantry is, even when they're not even moving but we have nothing in them to tell us what direction the big loud noise we're hearing is coming from?
If you can hear it, it should show up on your radar.
And these things count equally for tankers too, so you have no excuse to cry when a rail gunlogi surprises you from behind!

DECiBALS In this case I'm pretty sure it isn't in relation to sound. Sonar works best in fairly dense matter. My guess is its a generic sci-fi sensor and the dB part is used in interpreting the readings.

1. Passive scanning bugs where tanks and other vehicles don't show up on your scanners when they ARE in range need to go.
This almost never happens with Dropsuits that should be detected any more (it did in early Uprising builds.. having a passive scanning focused Scout shotgunned in the back by a Commando that never appeared on TACNET, while hilarious, wasn't working as intended).
2. ANY vehicle that's in your field of view - regardless of range - should light up if you can see it. If there are obstacles between you, fine, it can stay invisible. Otherwise, light it up. Infantry should only light up outside your scan range if you actually aim for them. On a semi-related note, squad sight should include enemies in your crosshairs as well as those picked up on Scanners. At present, this doesn't happen. |

I should be able to hear them from 50 meters away, not when they knife me in the back! I shouldn't have to use my eyes and look at the TacNet to spot them!" How about common sense. Tanks bigger than people. Me want tank smoke big wampum. Friendly tanks also make noise. Zero peripheral vision means I have to constantly turn like a ret*arded child at a KISS concert all the time. Stupid. Friendly tanks also appear on your TacNet at all times so at least you're not left wondering if it's a friend or foe. I mean if you're that much worried about tanks, just find a safespot and pull open your tactical map and scan the map for any tanks that don't have a blue diamond. I always scan the map while I wait for my spawn timer to be up-to-date on enemy vehicle movements and numbers.
Actually, friendly tanks don't always appear on TacNet. I've had two friendly tanks and an enemy tank blast away at each other on the other side of a small building, none of them appeared on my TacNet. This type of situation happens about 1 in 5 games. I'm a gallente scout with (most of the time) two complex precision enhancers and two complex range extenders, so there's clearly a dropsuit passive scan bug related to vehicles.
I tend to use sound extensively to track everything that goes on around me. I have a good headset, and I'm aware enough that I more often than not can distinguish the sound of a decloaking scout or NKs charging in the midst of a firefight, at some distance. Tracking enemy vehicles by sound still only work about 70% of the time, though. Why? Because:
- The engine sounds that all vehicles (especially dropships, but also HAVs and to some extent LAVs) have very low transient content. They're mostly a continuous, looping sound that changes a bit over time. This makes them harder to pinpoint exactly.
- The dropship and HAV engine sounds don't have a lot of high frequency content. Higher frequencies are easier to pinpoint than lower.
- Audio bugs sometimes remove portions of the audio. Sometimes this only applies to vehicle sounds, not even providing a warning that you can't rely on what you hear anymore.
- Friendly tanks sound the same as enemy tanks. If there are friendlies and enemies nearby, and they're zipping around trying to take each other out, it's not always obvious which sound is friendly and which isn't - especially given the fact that friendly tanks sometimes fail to appear on the TacNet.

I have always wondered why my suit that is designed to pick up other dropsuits at 10 meters cant pick up a ginormous METAL tank at 11 meters. It boggles my mind that i can't pick up tanks from further away than a dropsuit. Tanks are practically radar magnets they should be detectable well past the suits normal scan range. Imagine having a sharpshooter that can hit a dime at 10 feet tell you he cant hit the broad side of a barn at 50 feet you would look at him really funny. |

Give it a try, an hour or two and you can do it as well.
that wouldnt be an issue if they didnt had the ability to shoot infantry from 100m away and werent able to cross 50m under a second
beside that, there is no way to differentiate between friendly and enemy vehicle sound. |

That depends on the kind of weapon he's using. If you can use a Shotgun with an effective range of about 40m to cleanly take someone's head off at that range, the pellets are still not going to reach 100m, even if you're aiming for a building large enough to fit 10 barns inside. |

The arrogance from some tankers in this thread is amazing. Tanks should be on radar at all times, when in distance. Consider this tanks can shoot infantry from outside their radar distance with blasters and still not pop up on radar most of the time unless you turn around to look at them. Even then there's a small delay when scanning vehicles ( this applies to friendly vehicles too ). There shouldn't be a delay when i'm looking at the damned vehicle.
If HAVs are going to be such game changers on the BF then shouldn't they have the largest presence on the radar? no matter which direction they come from, the same case could also be made for heavies if you want but that's a different can of worms. Do most of the tankers disagreeing with OP even run infantry against tanks? Tanks sneaking up on infantry isn't as rare as it sounds and getting blastered well within your radar range is also common. As for sounds, friendly and enemy tanks sound the same!
Someone feel free to correct me on this if they want but even while shooting most tanks don't become visible. Another thing that i' not sure off is if even friendly tanks are visible on radar sometimes*.

I shouldn't have to use my eyes and look at the TacNet to spot them!" the fact that a tank is harder to passively scan than a basic scout destroys your entire argument. Tank is faster Tank regenerates HP faster Tank has more HP Tank has more range and damage Tank has AV and AI capabilities at the same time Tank is invisible to passive scans Tank is invulnerable to all non-tank fire Tank requires less teamwork to win So why exactly are you complaining?
I remember one of the CPM's/CCP one day mentioning this wasn't really intended. Of course it should show up on the mini-map... I have the same issues in my suit - I can scan out cloaked scouts but not HAV's.
Then there's the other elephant in the room - the exploit of the recall mechanic... CPM are actively pushing for this to go too, which is good... |

A LAV sure...but not a HAV. They're loud, huge, and more. It doesn't matter THAT much to me though because it's easy to call out tanks and keep track of them.

Well im using a headset and can hear a tank long before i can see him. Maybe its because i used to soundwhore on COD for years. When you pay attention to the game everything has a specific sound, forgeguns charging, scrambler rifles charging around the corner, gunfire hell i can even tell what sound a nanohive makes when it gets dropped.
This is called experience of the game and situational awareness.

It's hilarious that my suit scanner can't pick up tanks on scan! They have lower dB than scouts! If they weren't invisible then I could actually avoid them properly... I can hear them sometimes but that doesn't help because at that time they are already too close! (Yet they still don't appear on my mini map thing despite my ability to hear them...)

Im a tanker and the tank sounds means situational awareness is all you need reasoning is bullshit. Tanks are to fast for anybody to get into cover most of the time and thats if the sound is working properly which it doesnt always do. Just because tankers get the constant engine sounds doesnt mean everybody else can hear you. Tanks should be lit up if with in 50m of you.

But we shouldn't be balancing around bugs. Also, I've never been killed by a blaster tank when I've been running on foot, but rather rail tanks in CQC. Reason being is that I avoid blaster tanks like hell itself and I just give a meh to rail tanks.
Most tanks get bored playing hide and seek with you and leave you alone to find someone else that's not as hard to get as you. You can also see parts of the tank before it sees you, so you should be able to run back around when you see one of the tank's ends show up.
Tanks may be fast, but my Gunnlogi sure can't keep up with someone running around a container.

I totally agree, but a WAY BETTER fix would be to allow the Squad Leader to be able to ZOOM IN on the map when in OBITAL STRIKE MODE!!!!
Seriously, if I'm dead or if I open the map, I can pan around AND ZOOM. By doing that I can visibly see the tanks and vehicles driving around on the map. Sometimes even the infantry specs. BUT if you are the squad leader and you call in for orbital support, then you suddenly LOOSE the ability to zoom the f u ck in on the map? COMMON CCP get your sh i t together!

This is called experience of the game and situational awareness. Being able to hear a tank means nothing when you can't tell what direction the noise is coming from. If you're at an outside area but in cover amongst crates or trucks or whatever, chances are you can't see it directly. You know it's there but it's highly likely that even if you manage to poke your head around the right corner to find him, he'll insta-blap you from 80m. Only scouts with 3-4 range amps have that sort of scan range.
