I'm not sure if you guys are aware of this, but you won't die if you don't get 100% of the bonus SP. Infact, if you only got an extra 100K you still got more than you would without an event. If your life doesn't accommodate the time needed to reach cap that's not CCP's problem...it's a terrible terrible crying shame, but you'll live. Read the bottom part of the OP. I really shouldn't have to argue with people like you. Yes we are getting more SP than we would of normally, but it's implemented terribly. This isn't just "it's too hard to hit the cap," it is "they more than doubled how long it takes to hit the cap." That is going to affect a lot more than just my skill points, as towards the end of the week we are going to see a ton of AFKers ruining the game. And that's ironic, because the only reason CCP switched to this method of only applying the multiplier to war points was to reduce AFKers.
Sorry but all of you disgruntled need to manage your feelings of entitlement. It's not implemented badly. They have more than doubled how long it takes to hit cap? Then rejoice that you get to play the game you enjoy and can feel continually rewarded with full SP twice as long...until you either cap or the event ends. Good grief. Open the window and have some fresh air. |

I've said it before, but SP needs to be changed to 1 second = 1 SP and 1 WP = 5 SP. Right now you get a negligible amount of extra SP for putting effort into games compared to afk farming. Increasing active SP amounts and reducing the inactive amount would make the game far more rewarding and fun to play for me. |

^^ good idea!
Then, for this event, we would be earning 1 sp/sec and 15sp/wp. |

Nobodys forcing you to grind. But for me im still enjoying the event simply because i usually cap by saturday. Now i get a few more days to actually feel like im getting rewarded for my matches. Honestly this feels like what our cap should be normally in order to get new players up to a competitive level. At least for players under a cartain SP limit. |

If you are going to have these tedious events at least don't lie in your press releases. How is that lying? If anything it is a little unclear, the Passive that they are talking about could either the passive SP from battle (which is what I thought) or the general passive sp (which will never be altered by ccp).

So CCP didn't listen to the negative feedback on the last couple of SP multiplier events...
Why does CCP insist on punishing active players by forcing them to grind an absurd amount? They certainly aren't punishing afk farming because they're afk and won't give a ****.

Just up front, I rarely reach cap (twice in 9 months I think), and I don't intend to grind out this week for the extra, so I'm not concerned about 'missing out' on additional SP. The way it's been implemented will mean a little additional SP over what I'd normally get, and that's about it.
I am concerned, however, about continuing events that favour vets instead of helping newbies bridge the gap.
This SP event favours experienced players who achieve high WP totals. So in general, people who have good gear, appropriate skills, and good knowledge of the game will (continue) to cap out and increase or retain their SP gap over new players, while new players (scoring less that 1k WP a match) who are attempting to get to a point where they can compete will have to grind far in excess of the 77 matches calculated in the original post just to stay in touch.
Does that seem reasonable?
I would suggest instead to triple the passive SP gain from the match (5 SP/sec becomes 15 SP/sec). That way even low scoring players would get 10k+ for playing out a full match, and it should make it reasonable for everyone to hit cap. I understand that this may increase the likelihood of AFK'ing, but f*ck it, it's better than the alternative and is only for a week. |

I can certainly agree with this. We need new players, and higher player retention more than faster EXP. But I'm not going to ***** about extra SP... ever. |

Vin Mora wrote:Aero Yassavi wrote:Just to be clear, when you are in battle there are three types of SP being awarded.
1 SP per 1 WP, counted towards your active skill points. This is being tripled.
5 SP per 1 second in battle, this is only obtained when you are in a match and is counted as active skill points and is part of the skill points displayed at the end of the battle. This will not be tripled (foolishly).
1 SP per 3.6 seconds, which would of been gained regardless of whether you were in a battle or not. This is counted as passive SP, and obviously isn't tripled.
Now the problem here is that there are two parts to the active skill points, and only the lesser one is tripled. Meanwhile, the active skill point cap is tripled. So let's break out the math. Assume a match of Skirmish on average lasts 15 minutes, and the average Joe gets 1000 war points a match. So that is
Normal Week 15 minutes * 60 seconds / minute * 5 SP / second = 4,500 SP 1000 WP * 1 SP / WP = 1,000 SP Total SP gained from battle: 5,500 SP Weekly Cap: 190,400 SP Matches to cap out: 190,400 SP / 5,500 SP / match) = 34.618 matches >>> 35 matches to cap out
Triple SP Event Done Properly 15 minutes * 60 seconds / minute * 5 SP / second * 3 = 13,500 SP 1000 WP * 1 SP / WP * 3 = 3,000 SP Total SP gained from battle: 16,500 SP Weekly Cap: 190,400 SP * 3 = 571,200 SP Matches to cap out: 571,200 SP / (16,500 SP / match) = 34.618 matches >>> 35 matches to cap out
Triple SP Even in Reality 15 minutes * 60 seconds / minute * 5 SP / second = 4,500 SP 1000 WP * 1 SP/ WP * 3 = 3,000 SP Total SP gained from battle: 7,500 SP Weekly Cap: 190,400 SP * 3 = 571,200 SP Matches t cap out: 571,200 SP / (7,500 SP / match) = 76.16 matches >>> 77 matches to cap out
Now look, I know this is all SP we wouldn't normally be getting and it may sound like I'm acting entitled, but please leave those pity arguments behind. People want to cap out so they don't feel like they are missing out, but because of the way CCP has implemented this triple SP event, they are asking people to more than double their play time which is absurd! I believe CCP said they only started doing WP only getting counted for bonus SP events to avoid AFK players, but since then they have implemented the AFK kick system and the truth of the matter is that this only encourages people to get a rubber band and AFK anyways. Who has time for 77 matches in one week?
Come on CCP, show us you have common sense! So you're lazy? Because that I am that I seeing when I read between the lines. You are an arrogant prick. Who has time for 77 matches each week to cap out?
I have between when I get home and sleep 6 Hours. assuming each match is 20 mins that's 4 hours of gameplay time per day I would have to commit. If CCP did this right like they have been doing before and not making this another ******* meaningly grind fest like they always do ( AND I MEAN come on CCP was it that hard to even write a simple lore tid bit about why we are getting 3x SP? Not tied into this CONCORD THING?) then this would not be an issue.
I cannot necessarily commit 25 hours to this game next week to cap out but I could commit say 11 hours under the old structure across the week, and I could cap out two toons if I did commit those 20+ hours.
The last thing people in this community want if dust being more boring and grindy than it already is. CCP have just made it a grind fest again which is one of a dozen things that keep turning me off about this game.

From what I've read/experienced, these are the pros & cons of the past sp events. Disclaimer: lot of assumption.
True Triple SP
Pros: Immediate and tangible returns on time invested, no added time investment required to receive event rewards, rewards active players slightly more than afkers, no cap increase locks afk farmers out of farming faster.
Cons: Afk farmers receive only slightly less sp rewards than active contributors.
Overall Community Response: Unanimously Positive (from what I've read, I missed this event and so do not actually know how bad afk farming was at the time)
I'd say the biggest pros are the immediate rewards, and no extra time investment, as players could stop before capping, get to the cap or play after cap and know all the sp they got was tripled, as opposed to the following event that gave zero reward until reaching a significant time investment, and then requiring yet more time invested to receive the full (or even a tangible) sp gain.
Double SP Cap
Pros: Higher potential SP gains for the week.
Cons: Absolutely zero reward for players investing an average (I know that's subjective) amount of time, higher cap encouraged & allowed players to afk farm for a > average amount of time.
Overall Community Response: Majority Negative
While this event was designed to combat afk farming, it inadvertently punished most active players, requiring you get >190k SP before you start seeing any rewards, and even more time before those rewards become noticeable/worthwhile. For anyone who didn't go over the normal 190k (me) it was just a week of normal SP gains while looking at an insurmountable cap (missed potential SP) and dealing with the frustrations of MCC loungers.
Many players who condemn afk farming did it themselves, as 190k a week on a single character is as much as some people can do, double that and it became unattractive/infeasible/impossible for a lot of players to gain a substantial amount of the possible bonus SP without turning to afk farming, made more possible/attractive because you were able to do it for a longer period of time without hitting the cap.
Triple Active SP and Weekly Cap
Pros: Rewards active players with a (slight) increase to SP gains, higher potential SP weekly SP gain.
Cons: Afk farmers can still greatly benefit, providing a bonus only to WP:SP gain may punish newbs/noobs/players in certain roles, greatly increased cap extends the window players can/must afk farm to gain substantial benefits.
Overall Community Response (so far): Mixed (leaning toward negative from what I can see)
While I'm certainly going to enjoy increased sp gains, again, I don't believe I'll be using a whole lot more than 190k of my bonus SP. Only increasing gains based on WPs also seems to reward certain classes/play styles over others. Vets will most likely see much higher gains from the event than new players, logis will almost certainly be the top earning group, we'll also probably see a lot more uplink/nanohive nade spam this week as well. This could result in new players, or players in non logi support roles, earning little more than they would if they were afk farming, and at that point why wouldn't they afk farm?
Increasing the cap gives players more potential SP, but as stated earlier reaching the cap then becomes largely infeasible for a good portion of the community, at which point only hardcore grinders and afk farmers will benefit. Imo, most of the non-hardcore grinding community will benefit more from this event mixing active participation with a ton of MCC lounging. With a largely increased cap people will also be able to afk farm for a larger duration of the event, which will likely result in a much more prevalent afk population for the entirety of the event.
It seems that the majority of players are active, with only a few afk farming, but the opposite is true when the cap is increased, as then afk farming becomes the only attractive/possible way to get significant/any rewards from events of this nature. From all I've read it seems like afk farming was less of an issue when all gains were tripled, and most people that played enjoyed the event overall, while the double cap event that followed was a debacle, and this event is being looked upon poorly (although that could be in part because of CCP's apparent lack of attention to issues the community had with our last SP event, or the this one wasn't adequately described).
All in all, it sounds to me like it'd be better to offer rewards to the community as a whole (including a few non-contributing assholes) without increasing the time to cap, as all attempts to punish afkers so far have also negatively affected a large amount of active players (without deterring afkers, and actually increasing the amount of afking we see during event periods). |

These events are a joke to say the least. Any other game that offers a double or triple XP event is as clear as it is stated. It's not this read between the lines bullshit we get from CCP every month. Not to mention the ever changing landscape from month to month.
A patch is released and it changes the complete feel of the game. This has happened at least 3 times. I can't even count on coming back to a game that I have dedicated so much of my time to become accustomed to. I have never played a game that has changed it's central gameplay so much. My heavy has been rendered completely useless with this patch and they expect me to grind out some crap ass read between the lines triple* sp event? This must be a joke.
Time for me to move on to something I can rely on and something I know will have the same feel and core mechanics in 3 weeks. Good luck to all you mercs who decide to stick it out and constantly get bent over so they can stick it where the sun don't shine. I can't take anymore. My ass hurts! |

The level of entitlement in this thread is astounding.
Here's a tip: You don't HAVE to grind out the matches. You get extra SP if you maintain your current play times. If you have more time or make more time to play this week, then you get more SP. It's simple.
CCP isn't responsible for your sense of entitlement, you have to deal with it yourself.
Here's a simple analogy to make things simpler for you.
Say on your local radio station, there's a dial-in competition, where if you enter you get $5 cash in hand. Every time you participate in the event you get your reward handed out to you. Naturally, someone with more time on their hands will get more rewards, and someone with less time won't get more. Do you think you should be entitled to the same rewards as the person with more time? Do you gripe about it? If so, you really need a reality check.
Also, at the comments about 'adults with work and married with children' etc. Well, if you think capping out at a video game takes priority over other commitments, then you need to get your priorities and your life sorted.
Instead of viewing this as 'CCP is forcing me to play more to enjoy the rewards', maybe grow up, lose that entitled view, and start viewing this as 'CCP is rewarding me if I play more, and if I don't, I still get more SP than I normally would'.

They say triple sp and people find out it's just some weak amount that really doesn't mean anything. The players want something that will boost their sp gain substantially so they can compete or at least hold their own against some of the big boys. This event truly only rewards those who are dedicated and have the time to fully commit to the game for a week. As I said in a previous post, it is the casual gamer that these events should be for. Sure your dedicated players will gain the same but all of their sp gains will go into secondary stuff. As for the casual gamer they would use that for their core skills and perhaps getting their first proto suit.
I don't mind the event. Have a proto and my core skills are solid. My ***** is the ever changing landscape from month to month. I really like the idea of the game and I want it to survive. I feel CCP is just doing stupid stuff to push away the people who will continue to make the game grow. The gap between the vets and noobs is substantial. You have to play for months to be competitive with most of the players on the game today. It gets old fast and eventually forces the new players away from the game.
Take COD for example. You could pick up the game today and compete with somebody who has been there for a year. That is not the case with Dust. The learning curve is just craziness in this game. As long as it is so I have a hard time seeing the player base grow. |
