But I REALLY don't want to. I love this game so much. I love my heavy, I love the HMG. I love Minmatar and I love EvE.
My main issue is constantly getting killed and not wanting to invest SP in another races suit. That being Amarr.
We already know that the Minmatar Heavy suit is "Coming" but with no ETA or any information given (I understand there is no way to do a solid date and stuff but an ESTIMATED time for arrival would be nice and screw the whiners that complain about something being late.
Because of the NO FUTURE RESPECS, which I completely understand, I don't feel like investing 5million SP into the amarr heavy suit that I don't even like.
In battle, I am stuck using the militia suit due to being afraid of wasting SP. This game has been out for some time now and we still don't have our basic dropsuits for each race.
I know development takes time but it has been a long time and all the patches that have been coming out so far have been very minor changes that should have been in the game in the first place.
Okay, my rant is over.
I probably will not quit, but I had to vent my frustration somewhere since all my RL friends quit this game due to it being very incomplete.
Any suggestions on what to do would be helpful, my current plan is to just keep stacking SP so if the suits ever do get released, I can get the Minmatar heavy straight away. It is very frustrating losing to these prototypes in my militia by just a scratch and knowing that if I had equal gear, the fight would not have been close.

Your "rant" was very logical, non-emotional, and well thought out. I object only to your use of the word rant, and will give you a +1 since you provided constructive feedback on the game in the "rant that is not really a rant" OP.

So I guess I maybe play with a bit of a different mind set.
Basically I took Gallente Logistics suits up to proto level and that is the ONLY thing I have at proto level. I then got all the light weapons to at least standard level, that took like all of a couple matches or a days passive SP. Then after playing with all the light weapons a bit I started picking out the ones I liked most and got those to advanced level.
I am currently working my way through getting all the light weapons to advanced, upgrading some core skills (hacking, armor, shield, and CPU/PG skills). Basically since I am terrible at the game and wont use Proto stuff outside of PC matches I just get as much stuff to advanced so I can play around with ALL of it and have fun with all of it.
I will say though I have Gallente Logistics maxed and the only other suit I have is Caldari medium suits to advanced. No other racial suits. But I am having a blast just flipping between weapons and fits as my mood suits me.
Just realized the other day exactly how much I love shotguns. Think I will get myself a decent scout suit and shotgun next.
Anyways, TLDR is dont try and go max on stuff. Go basic on everything, then go slightly better on the things you kind of enjoy, and only max out the things you really love. Other then that just get as much stuff to advanced to add variety. It also means being able to test all the things whenever they are balanced or tweaked.

Not really. We spend all day every day making the game so when we go home we often want to play other games. While at work we are playing on internal test servers, so none of that gives us SP or ISK on our player characters. As developers it is also really good that we do go play other games. On top of all that I do log CCP FoxFour. on every now and then and again the SP he gets doesn't apply to my player character.
It's all pretty normal in the games industry for players to play the game a LOT more than devs do at home. Game Designer // Team True Grit http://twitter.com/regnerba |

OP - You just need... (visit skill planer) 2,760,960 SP to unlock Minmatar Basic Heavy 3 and Minmatar Sentinel 5 when it goes live. Just keep that amount reserved and go spend SP in whatever you feel like would help your heavy later and isn't better spent in a alt - Electronics, Engineering, Armor and Shield Upgrades, Biotic Upgrades, sidearms, you name it. Just not equipment since true heavies can't use them. Mess around, have some fun. Plasma Cannon is hilarious, if ineffective, and Laser Rifle with double complex damage modifiers is hysterical. Or take a break, I heard it helps too.

Meanwhile continue to play in a gimped MLT Heavy Suit that has 118 less base HP with Armor and Shield upgrades at 5, not to mention only 1 high/ 1 low slot, so you will barely be able to take advantage of those Damage Modifiers and Armor Plates and/or Reppers you spent so much SP to get to Complex.
You also wont be able to Run those boundless HMGs on your MLT heavy because the fitting cost is too high, and your Survivability in a MLT heavy suit would make this very ISK ineficient.
So yes, you should gimp yourself for an indetermined amount of time, or spec into other roles or weapons which do not really suit your general playstyle.

EDIT: OR
Spec into the Amarr Heavy Basic Frame, and wait to set this MoFo off with the rest of us Heavies if we don't get at least a Dropsuit Deployment Respec when the other Racial Variants are released. |

The horizon can be as beautiful as it likes, when the terrain between here and there is a morass of garbage, it is not an appealing trip.
Besides, the "good stuff is around the corner" line was only good before Uprising, when there was at least an illusion of CCP having enough resources to pull this off.
We all know the game is going to rot in a special type of development dysfunction, don't bother trying to play it like you guys have some ace up your sleeve. Because if you had one we would have heard about it when you first wrote down the idea. Probably would have gotten a blog about it back then too.

Hometime for me now though as it's almost 1AM. :( There is no such thing as a decent scout suit. My Dragonfly Sniper/Nova Knife scout says otherwise. |

See..I guess everyone is different...and this is actually a response to this post as well as the OP.
I have two proto racial dropsuits. I was going to get a third but it isn't necessary at this moment. I have concentrated all of my skill points into maxing out my specialty. I think when guys go for too much variety, it will hurt their chances at winning fights vs those who have specialized. It's sort of like the saying, "Good at some, great at nothing" (btw, I don't know if I made that up or heard it from somewhere :D but point still remains).
If you'ver never played an fps before, OP, then I guess it's hard to know what your personal playstyle is...if you're new. That kind of thing is developed over time and may change depending on the game. Dust is great because the different dropsuits allows you to choose and customize your dropsuit according to your particular playstyle. If you're an aggressive, in your face, sort of shooter like me, then you would choose a suit with specific modules designed to match your style. Someone who is more of a defensive and away from the fight, sort of player would have a different set up.
You should figure out your playstyle and make that fit the best it can possibly be.
**of note though..because of all of the cheesy weapons and towers and other gay ways to die in Dust, you may have to adapt to survive. That may mean that you may have to change your playstyle to keep up with the status quo** |

Because of the NO FUTURE RESPECS, which I completely understand, I don't feel like investing 5million SP into the amarr heavy suit that I don't even like.
at around 23m sp, your pretty much done with everything regarding 1 suit, so from then on you are going to be free to spend in any other suit you feel like it.
So just spend now and take something you want later when its implemented, because only unspend SP is really stupid. |

Employees tend to use all game items in roughly the conventional method they were instructed to test by their boss.
Run a stats test on how differently items are used in the test server Vs the live servers, if you don't believe me. They wont match. |

I really can't, all I can do is quote CCP Praetorian and reiterate that we are still committed to the grand vision of Dust, p2p trading, more influence on the EVE universe and meaningful endgame for mercs. Both in the short, mid and long term. We try to let those principles guide us in what we do.
http://www.psu.com/a021278/?utm_source=twitterfeed
Obviously, 1.5 and 1.6 expansions are lighter than we planned for, but much of that work has shifted into 1.7, so if all goes well, 1.7 will be beefy. The stuff that was in 1.5 and the enhancements in 1.6 are still solid and should be well received.
New content wise, the new outposts are good and we all know that not having racial suits is not optimal, I am myself waiting for Gallente heavy, saving up SP in the meantime (not going well, I keep spending it on core skills)
All that said and done, I play the game every day and we are aware of most things mentioned here on the forums, matchmaking, performance, balance and we try to prioritize as well as we can against new features.

You should play other games from time to time to get some inspiration ;). 1.5 lighter? Friends quit playing this game (I feel lonely without them) because of the still missing stuff. Solid will not bring them back. The most are waiting for coop PVE, some are hoping for new game mods as well as suits and weapons.
Btw. how is the new EP?
EDIT:
Quote:PSU: Are the rapid-fire updates here to stay or do you intend to shift back to the 3-4 updates a year model later on?
Atli: The monthly updates will be with us for the foreseeable future, but we have already retasked a couple of teams onto the next expansion. We are hoping to be able to reveal more details on what they are working on at EVE Vegas, later in October.

Do you know how hard it is to get shot down time and time again, have no money to get back up in the air, and think how easily you could be in an advanced suit with proto mods with 4M SP? But no, I will stick it out...
It just sucks because saving SP has made it so I really have no reason to play regularly. I am not regularly rewarded for my efforts. I will be eventually, but I'm not gaining new skills every few days. I'm just sitting.. |

All the rumors confirmed!
I do have some problems with the roadmap though. You once said we will have PvE when Uprising hits. The last we heard was that you currently aren't working on it and that it's shelved for now. Have you started working on it again? If yes I can believe that "Sometime in 2014" But at the moment this seems a little bit unrealistic for me, when it's still shelved. |

Don't forget, CCP isn't active in PC. They would never be able to keep up. It will remain as a mystery that people will want to be competitive quickly to be able to contribute.
Besides, the longer and more diverse your route through the skill tree, the more likely you are to buy boosters when it finally comes time to start really upgrading. Clever moves by the devs, encouraging people to waste their SP. |

But if you think about Eve, a gigantic massive universe much like our own where time is mostly irrelevant and relative to the speed you are traveling.
So their definition of SOON is very much different then our own. A whole year is soon.

Most weapons and a couple of different frames at standard) really doesn't take that much SP, and encouraging people to try a range of weapons and suits instead of immediately going full cal/gal logi + AR can only be a good thing.
EDIT: Yes early specialisation is pretty essential, but specialising too early can be a bad thing as well. |

Based on the pace and timing of previous updates, version 1.7 should be out in early December.

Maybe, but I'm sure there's some of the long-view that tends to take place in EVE. Specialize in one thing quickly to be of use, and then go try a bunch of things because the road is long, and power shifts continually.

I'm curious if that's a realistic expectation - 1.6 is just going to be a few engine enhancements and small things, 1.7 is going to be the major content/rebalance patch. Given that we're on a monthly basis, that would mean that 1.7 is coming out in December....... So.... Uhhh.....
PvE in 2014.5? Is there a parallel dimension I'm not aware of O_o???

Feel the same way as OP. I got to level 2 on Gallente Scout before I said "no more!" I'm going to wait for Caldari Scout and not drop another sp point into suits until then. Of course, not knowing when that will happen I'm perfectly happy skilling into core skills. And remember: score skills count for every suit. So I'm actually improving my caldari scout for whenever it comes out!
Oh I bet it will look awesome and sexy and work like a dream!! Goodbye K/D ratio, hello suit I'm finally happy with! |

Instead of this good things on the horizon rubbish how about you say .. NOTHING .. don;t make any promises you can;t keep, stop giving people the impression that you are actually going to add the things players actually want ...
I dont buy into the whole' tell the players what we hope to add in the next update to keep them playing and then when we dont add it we'll say it's been delayed and it will come in the future PS someone start working on that' crap |

I like the answer of CCP Rattati. For beginners it would be nice to try out every weapon first. Maybe CCP can overwork all the start militia suits. They are bad fitted anyway :). How about more then 4? I would even add a commando heavy do distribute the Idea of this suit. Even if the suit is not 100% ready to go. Make them meta 0 commando and gibe then 4 different militia light weapons. New players can try them. Also add one "real" heave and a scout with role fitting like scanner and shotgun(?).
This way new players could and should try a lot without "wasting" SP into things they don't like and becoming frustrated.

We want to make the game more accessible at the beginning and allow people to highly specialize or diversify without frustration.
Each and every path isn't going to be optimal path, like any mmo, there will be a "best" fit, but we want to support player choice and expression.
I don't have the stamina to max out all the AR skills, like reload time etc, I much prefer redeploying tactically and based on the situation. To allow that, we can't have the initial investment be to steep. But then again, I don't expect maximum efficiency out of my badly skilled heavy, or standard sniper outfit. |

Didn't they say some time ago that they were going to make some kind of "shooting range" where you could try out the weapons independently? Or is this tied into the long-awaited pve content? |

Don't you think the issue is you doubled the time ot takes to train the skills when the game came out of beta? Why put new players through that? I think it was becuase yu had us players with 6 months of sp you didn't want us being too powerful but that just ends up hurting the new players.
With the weapon/vehicle/dropsuit pools double in some places tripling over the next year what is the message you are trying to send to people to join this game in a year? Welcome to dust have fun grinding 4 months to use just one of 36 Prototype dropsuis we have in game.
That's not counting support skills or weapons. Meaning it would take a new player 12 years just to max out dropsuits. Is that a sick joke? That's more than the training time for all of the skills in eve online! For just one class of skills in Dust 514! MY GOD

They just lying, like with respec for everyone, like with balancing, like with vehicle balancing, like with Massive gaming, like with stabile servers, like with no lag etc. And honestly new stuff in 2015. Boyo in that time i-Śll be on PS4 with blacklight retribution, Planetside 2 (real massive online playing in real time), Destiny and other games. Grinding like in dust, i never saw it, ninja nerf and other B*shates from CCP. Im MAG vet and i tell you, MY DEAR CCP, something. Grinding in MAG was awesomely funny, grinding in dust is just boring like hell. Maps flat, no place for strategy, game dont push you for coop, protostomping, no diversity in gameplay. Where i can stop and honestly what fc*uking me even more, empty promises about everything. First there was that nerf, where i sent message for respec (4 times), oki nothing i start again from scratch. Guess what another nerf, i was like "again what the hell" and guess what there was second respcet "for everyone", but how i saw not for me AGAIN. Oki i was pissed off and i left game. Few week ago i connect to game again, my clanmates told me its better and for while it was, but boom vehicle buff. I was like "CCP went crazy or what", but hey there will be ne thingies (oki new maps, what honestly is another dose of flatnesess for game, what is already flat like hell). No i really thing about leave the game for ever. There is nothing new. CCP instead of implementing new B*shated should balance that stuff long time ago. I honestly never felt more like in beta for such long time. Take a look on other f2p games, Blacklight: Retribution (after beta just two big patches and game is flawlessly awesome and balanced) or Hawken (still in beta and there is just few minor problems to tink and honestly you can feel yourself like in proper AAA release right now), compare it with DUST514 (or my favorite nickname BUST514) where i basicaly still feel like in beta and that should mean something for devs. If not iam really sad for CCP like company. And now about promises, there was big promises about awesome leveling system (oki grinding like hell through uninteresting game), but oki this is just my subjection, maybe someone thinking its interesting. But DEFO not me, runing through flatland and taking point somewhere in one building in midle of map and this is EVERYWHERE?? Interesting weapons, honestly i shoot from many real one and there (do not taking up something about "its just game" here), you dont have feel of arms. Its like spiting on someone and i dont taking up balancing what is easily terible (CCP honestly do you ever shooting from something, by that - what i saw ingame - i dont think so). Racial weapons, nothing here just some cut from what you prepared before, yeah wait "be prepared for awesome patch were we just put new names on that with some tinkies with damage etc. Vehicles do something with it, vehicles basicaly dont fit roles for what theyre made, sma like weapons. When i was in army RPG was nightmare for tank its simple, proper colision damage and other thingies, like for hell on earth where you saw faster Armor faster than rocket (CCP do you have devs with some MINIMAL army training, becose by what i saw ingame I DONT THINK SO!!). I agree with those who have suggested taking a break. Actually I think just dialing back your playtime is a better route then just no playing for an extended period. Whenever I have done that it is usually followed by a frustrating period of acclimating again.
I would say 80% of my gaming is online stuff. I try and play at least two titles, sometimes three, during the same time periods. It is too easy to burn out on a game when it is all you play.
Dust 514 is always the perfect companion to any other shooters I am interested in because:
1. It is Free to Play 2. The passive SP makes me feel like I always moving forward 3. It is a great sounding board when evaluating other games
I wish more folks could take this perspective. Would probably cut back on the rants (nothing against the OP). At the very least it has helped me enjoy the game for over 15 months. |

I actually have great idea, dear CCP devs go somewhere and try to shoot weapons. After just implement your feels in game. I dont get why they didnt that before. For studio like CCP it cant be difficult. Just try it, it will be defo better than implementing b*shate numbers in game withou proper try. |

Hometime for me now though as it's almost 1AM. :(

I still just hope the devs here don't think they have 10 years to get Dust up to a reasonable standard. Eve is the only game like it on the market until Star Citizen comes out and has had 10 years of free reign.

It's all pretty normal in the games industry for players to play the game a LOT more than devs do at home.[/quote] I got respect for game developers. I'm interested in somehow being one, but since I'm not I respect those who are. I wonder what was CCP's inspiration on this game. What movies too. |
