I really love DUST 514. It is honestly a great game, even with its few bugs and what not. I have been getting more and more intrigued by New Eden in general. I went out and picked up Templar One, which I'm about to start reading presently.
I started a 14 day trial just to see what all this EVE hype was about. I'm not a PC gamer per se, so I went and looked up the system requirements. Turns out my lil ol' Mac Book Unibody is sufficient to run it. So, I'm currently downloading the client.
CCP, you have made a fanboy out of me! I guess, with my love for RPG gaming, it wasn't that difficult to reel me in though! Next step, begin working on the neckbeard
So, does anybody have any pointers for an EVE noob?

Join EvE university, it takes a few days for the application to go through so fill it out immediatly. That and do ALL THE INTRO MISSIONS, they give you good money and teach you about the basics of the game, do not skip any of them. When you are doing the sisters of eve quests there is one guy who is an absolute *****. When you get to him, his name starts with a D get some help, hopefully someone in a BC will just wtf pwn him for you but 2 frigs can easily take him down (his dps is **** but his tank is damn near unbreakable for a new char) |

The certification system should help you a bit with your skill training by leading you along the right path in terms of skill training. Definitely check out those certificates and shoot for some that you find interesting.
Also, SgtDoughnut makes good suggestions - Do the tutorials, join EVE University, and bring friends to down Dagan when you come to that point in the Sisters of Eve arc.
Also, avoid venturing into lowsec for now, unless you have a death fetish. You can also hit me up in-game if you want if you have any questions, particularly on the industrial side (TheAmazingFlyingPig, same name as on here, just with no spaces). I'm AFK most of the time though, so don't expect a quick reply :3

The UMC- isn't currently in an alliance, but we do have allies DUST side. I will be paying close attention so as not to cross paths too soon with enemies, or step on the toes of our allies. |

I can run all the intro missions in about 30 min, but my char is skilled, from a starter position about 45 min to an hour, but the intro missions touch on all aspects of eve, combat, ewar, mining, trading, hauling, even scanning. |

Seriously though, ATM the UMC- is not aligned with any particular faction, which makes the above suggestions for pirating sound intriguing to me. I don't think I will be doing that from the get go though, but we will see. |

As others said you can go no wrong going to Eve Uni. Once you earn a bit of isk and want to take on meaner targets (other players) I then recommend Agony Unleashed classes. Do not be afraid to die early and die often for the sake of learning lessons.

Cyberntics V early as possible then either secure a loan or buy and sell time cards/plex and get a set of +5% implants. Will be a boring period that you will be tempted to skill elsewhere but long term its well worth it. Actually with the accelerated learning to start it's probably not that long anymore. |

Find a person you trust and use their name to start a subscription and split the reward plex. Use that ISK to buy the skill that lets you use implants. Train them so you can train faster. Decide what you like to do - PVE, mining, PVP, missions and such - and look up the realted skills that make you better at that job. Use the certificates or EVEmon to see what skills help with what you like. Focus on that for a while like a laser and you won't wast too much SP on junk.
Low sec is good for PVP and null for other stuff. Find a corp that is active in your time zone, have fun. DON"T BE AFRAID TO GET BLOWN UP!!!!

Oh holy f*ckin' sh*t about the pointers! There are a ton of pointers for EVE. You'll have to take it slow and learn as you go like a fine wine.
EVE is NOT a simple FPS. It is rich in features and environment and you must treat it like a chess game, not checkers.
Hence the reason I dropped the game and when I do periodically visit I mainly do ore and module trading via the market and a freighter.
Whereas DUST is more of a Guns 'N' Roses, EVE is a Marvin Gay song. |

+1 for Eve University. It's a great place to start out, get some practice/experience and have your questions answered. When you move on from there, you can literally go in any direction you want: piracy, highsec care bearing, faction warfare, trading/hauling, mining, industry, wormholing, join a massive nullsec coalition, or a small gang pvp focused corp. |

Beware of the "Windozers". It's my terminology for a particularly mentally unstable group, but they at all over the friggin place.
They are all Computer-Only users who have indoctrinated themselves into believing that all console games do not have any fun in them. Many of them use their alts on the eve side of the Dust forms and rant how "if the game will survive it ""must"" go PC" etc... Not a good idea to talk to those kinda of people cause they'll try to hunt you just because they learn you use a console. Not to mention there are graphicophiles who claim to only find entertainment staring at the shiniest graphics possible... I'm not sure if they have neurological damage, but they'll claim all console games are boring and associate heavy with prior said "Windozers".
Anyway there are plenty of stable and friendly people playing, I'm just warning you to get to know them a bit before talking about other games with them. EVE is one if the few games I know of that permits such extremists on a daily basis. They may be far between, but if you encounter one its like a landmine of **** all over, especially if you're just starting the game. |

Tips: Don't even try mining. It can be enjoyable in a strange way, like fishing...but you don't want to spend your trial time fishing. You want to spend that time on safari. If you really want to get into some pvp early on look into faction warfare. Tons of small gang pvp there with groups that take in newbies, and you may get to do some bombardments for Dust. |

EVE uni is a great place to go. Even if you don't go into the corp join their public chat and you can ask questions there.
Also, if you want an immediate answer to a question you can use http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Main_Page . It contains absolutely invaluable information on anything and everything you would ever want to know with both text descriptions as well as recordings of past classes they've held on the topics. The information is usually pretty up to date, although you might come across one or two things here or there that are no longer accurate. This might hold doubly true soon with a new expansion coming up that might change things, but they'll get on them fairly quickly.
Also bookmark http://eve-survival.org/wikka.php?wakka=MissionReports It contains information for (as far as I can tell) every pve mission in the game and guides on how to do them. Some of them even include videos.
Want t know the price of something? http://eve-central.com/ will tell you the going price on anything that doesn't require a contract to buy/sell.
**EDIT**
I would say contact me in game, but unfortunately I've just recently let my subscription dry up. With classes, EVE was too much a temptation to play instead of doing my work... Seriously, it gets way too addicting, I stopped playing Dust after a while because of it. I'll come back to it eventually, I have 2 bil on that character and I'm not going to let it go to waste, maybe I'll fire it up for a month or two on winter vacation.... |

Just so you know, as buddy offers go this is a pretty terrible one. The PLEX that you get normally goes for upwards of 500 mil, and traditionally at least 20% of this goes to the new player - IE, at least 100 mil.
Also, take your time finding a corp. Think about what you want to do a bit before joining one - the exception possibly being new player corps like EVE University - as joining the right group of people is quite important. You probably know this from Dust. |

Either way don't go expecting massive success in PvP, I that's your thing in the first month or two, build up your skills, get T2 all the way, and you can be on the lookout for miners, newbies, and just poorly fit ships to take down. |

She actually plainly stated that she doesn't believe in god, or the faith to her mother.
She is genetically engineered from her Amarr Ancestors, and artificially inseminated into her mother.
She is under the mind control drugs administered by Falek Grange. She is completely under his control.
Grange engineered her DNA, plotted to hide her from the True Amarr Heirs, until he could elevate her to Empress, then just before he did, he gave her the slaver drug.
She is Empress in name only... |

It helps one militia to capture systems more easily, but that is becoming an issue now since the match making for FW is possibly a litte screwy, Since contracts are nearly constantly generated in FW, the minmatar and amarr are generating contracts at the same time, though the Matari FW contracts are more focused in the few Amarr systems we have left and are all offensive, this makes taking districts back very difficult and not in keeping with the FW desire to pendulum swing. Since both sides are often reporting wins of relative frequency its just odd that we see this sort of result.
But yes it does help greatly. |

The graphics are brilliant. I wish I had a mini Display to HDMI cable so I could view it on my HD TV. My MacBook Screen is kind of small.

I use a Macbook Pro I hook up to my HDTV. If you plan on doing any fast paced PVP with smaller ships, definitely get a proper mouse. PVP'ing in a fast interceptor or pirate frigate would be a nightmare using a trackpad.
If you're into PVP, the quickest way to have fun is to train up for interceptors...especially if you're often flying solo.
You can escape most gate camps because you're fast. So even if there's a camp, you can often either warp out or simply MWD away at 5km/s+. Once you're 100k or so off a camp, try to tease them so one of their smaller ships (inties, etc.) tries to catch up with you. Draw that single ship (or 2 of them if you feel confident) away from his buddies to a range where they can't hurt you. Then engage the other guy 1vs1.
You can get tons of good 1vs1 fights that way. It's always amazing how overconfident some people are when they have friends around...even if those friends can't really help them once you draw 'em off the gate.
PVP in EVE can be quite tactical.
Reason for not using a larger ship when being solo is that a larger ship dies more often to gatecamps. So unless you have a scout, you risk losing your ships in fights that aren't on your terms way too often.
Having said that, once you get to BS levels, you can roam solo with some of those battleships. My favorite solo roaming ship is a Dominix with medium blasters, dual reppers, dual cap injectors, web, scrambler, and mwd. That thing tanks like a beast and can survive many fights where it's outnumbered. Just manage your dornes well and keep an eye on your cap and know when to pull out of a fight. If you insure it, it isn't expensive to replace. You won't catch anything that doesn't want to fight though because BS are slow. |

Also... you should see it splayed across a 2-by-3 screen array of 21in monitors with max settings. Just panning around your ship is a thing of beauty at that point.. |

Vast majority of people who plays EvE have 2+ accounts lol. The convenience of two accounts is just... worth it. |

Yes, your capsule can be destroyed but in empire space anyone not at war with you would take a security hit. Of course that doesn't stop some of them.
If your capsule gets destroyed, you will wake up inside the station where your clone is. Make sure your clone is up to date. So if you have 5m SP, you should get a clone that covers at least 5m SP. You'll have to pay for it.
The tutorials aren't bad if you just start out. Try to upgrade to a frigate as fast as you can.
3 more tips:
1) Specialise! There are no respecs. Focus on basic support skills (engineering, etc.) and then specialise in one area first before branching out.
2) Find a good corporation. There is a recruitment forum on EVE's website. Being in a good corp makes life A LOT easier and the game more interesting. You can join corp PVP gangs even in smaller ships from the start
3) Don't trust anyone. Sounds harsh...but that's EVE. The game is famous for its scams (which are a fun part of the game by the way).
Here's a good read: LINK
Quote:Today the biggest scam ever recorded hit thousands of EVE Online players like a brick in the face, netting a record one trillion ISK in final takings. Proving that old ideas still work, Eddie Lampert and Mordor Exuel pulled off a simple Ponzi scheme on a massive scale. Promising unprecedented returns of 5% per week on invested ISK, the duo convinced over 4,000 players to open accounts in their Phaser Inc. investment scheme. Many initially dubious players were eventually convinced to invest by real testimonials from their friends and corpmates.
Over 1,831.67 billion ISK was invested, 345.18 billion of which was paid out as interest and 452.72 billion of which was withdrawn by wary investors. When the business closed up earlier today its owners collected the remaining 1,034 billion ISK. To put that massive number in perspective, it's enough to buy 2,953 30-day time codes worth a total of $51,677.50. |

So far, I have frigate to 3, and is training to 4 as per tutorial.
I think I'm flying a low level frigate as well. It's the 1st ship you have to go get in the tutorial.
I also put armor and shield in the que, but i think it only let me que armor, not sure.
How many skills can you have qued at once. Does it depend on another skill or something like that? I think currently it will only let me have 1 skill in que.

A little over 24 hours worth of skills training in my experience, or Im a scrub who can barely train his skills after 5 months..... though you can stack any of the 14 day + skills one at a time. |

There are a tonne of beginner guides on YouTube that can really help you in deciding what to do and how to do it. I recommend you check out some of the videos. If you want to run missions or live in a wormhole I have found Eve Survival to be a big help and is usually quite accurate.

Couple of answers for you, both of which were partially answered but I thought I'd provide more detail.
The skill-queue can have skills queued up to 24 hours, and the final skill in the queue can go past that. You can fit as many skills as you like in until the 24 hour limit, at which point it's best to put in a longer train. For example, you can have dozens of 20 minute skills in that time, or you can have one 23 hour and 59 minute skill and then another after that which can be as long as you like. It may sound a little confusing, but you'll figure it out pretty quick I'm sure.
On capsule loss - You CAN lose your capsule, as a previous poster stated. One thing you have to make sure to do is keep your clone updated - that is to say, every now and then after a fair chunk of skill training visit a med-bay and upgrade your clone. Every time you die this resets as well, so make sure to update your clone if you lose your pod. If you fail to do this you'll lose SP from your longest trained skill.
You will also lose your implants. Implants are things which you can stick into your head to give you attribute bonuses, skill bonuses, etc. These typically make your skills train faster, so it's well worth getting a cheap set of +2 attribute implants to help you on your way at the start.
There's a handy trick you can use in highsec and lowsec to get your pod out 100% of the time. When you're about to lose your ship, or you see big red letters saying 'POD EJECTED' on your screen, select a celestial object like a planet, station, or stargate on your overview by clicking it and mash the 's' key. That's the hotkey for warp - your pod will warp away instantly if you do this correctly and it's impossible to catch it if you do this correctly, apart from when in an interdiction bubble, which is only found in nullsec and wormhole space. |

Really been enjoying PvE missions. I mine occasionally just to get some extra ISK when I'm waiting for a certain skill to train. I think I want to get deeper into the Minmatar Role playing.
I went out to Caldari Space because I was going to join a corp, it just didn't feel like home. Then I did a security mission for Caldari, and in the Mission there was a Hostile Minmatar Navy Ship...
I didn't want to lose standing with my Minmatar brethren. I didn't want Caldari LP, I want Minmatar LP! I don't want to be stationed in Caldari Space, it's not rusty enough!
i just couldn't do it anymore, I felt like I was betraying my people. |

I'm not a PC gamer per se, so I went and looked up the system requirements. Turns out my lil ol' Mac Book Unibody is sufficient to run it. So, I'm currently downloading the client. Big things slipping through a gate camp is a sign of a bad gate camp. However, it also helps when the big thing isn't a bad pilot as well, so +1.
