I really love DUST 514. It is honestly a great game, even with its few bugs and what not. I have been getting more and more intrigued by New Eden in general. I went out and picked up Templar One, which I'm about to start reading presently.
I started a 14 day trial just to see what all this EVE hype was about. I'm not a PC gamer per se, so I went and looked up the system requirements. Turns out my lil ol' Mac Book Unibody is sufficient to run it. So, I'm currently downloading the client.
CCP, you have made a fanboy out of me! I guess, with my love for RPG gaming, it wasn't that difficult to reel me in though! Next step, begin working on the neckbeard
So, does anybody have any pointers for an EVE noob?

Join EvE university, it takes a few days for the application to go through so fill it out immediatly. That and do ALL THE INTRO MISSIONS, they give you good money and teach you about the basics of the game, do not skip any of them. When you are doing the sisters of eve quests there is one guy who is an absolute *****. When you get to him, his name starts with a D get some help, hopefully someone in a BC will just wtf pwn him for you but 2 frigs can easily take him down (his dps is **** but his tank is damn near unbreakable for a new char) |

The certification system should help you a bit with your skill training by leading you along the right path in terms of skill training. Definitely check out those certificates and shoot for some that you find interesting.
Also, SgtDoughnut makes good suggestions - Do the tutorials, join EVE University, and bring friends to down Dagan when you come to that point in the Sisters of Eve arc.
Also, avoid venturing into lowsec for now, unless you have a death fetish. You can also hit me up in-game if you want if you have any questions, particularly on the industrial side (TheAmazingFlyingPig, same name as on here, just with no spaces). I'm AFK most of the time though, so don't expect a quick reply :3

The UMC- isn't currently in an alliance, but we do have allies DUST side. I will be paying close attention so as not to cross paths too soon with enemies, or step on the toes of our allies. |

I can run all the intro missions in about 30 min, but my char is skilled, from a starter position about 45 min to an hour, but the intro missions touch on all aspects of eve, combat, ewar, mining, trading, hauling, even scanning. |

Seriously though, ATM the UMC- is not aligned with any particular faction, which makes the above suggestions for pirating sound intriguing to me. I don't think I will be doing that from the get go though, but we will see. |

As others said you can go no wrong going to Eve Uni. Once you earn a bit of isk and want to take on meaner targets (other players) I then recommend Agony Unleashed classes. Do not be afraid to die early and die often for the sake of learning lessons.
Also if you love New Eden Lore I will forwarn the following link will probably suck you in. http://community.eveonline.com/backstory/chronicles/ |

Cyberntics V early as possible then either secure a loan or buy and sell time cards/plex and get a set of +5% implants. Will be a boring period that you will be tempted to skill elsewhere but long term its well worth it. Actually with the accelerated learning to start it's probably not that long anymore. |

Find a person you trust and use their name to start a subscription and split the reward plex. Use that ISK to buy the skill that lets you use implants. Train them so you can train faster. Decide what you like to do - PVE, mining, PVP, missions and such - and look up the realted skills that make you better at that job. Use the certificates or EVEmon to see what skills help with what you like. Focus on that for a while like a laser and you won't wast too much SP on junk.
Low sec is good for PVP and null for other stuff. Find a corp that is active in your time zone, have fun. DON"T BE AFRAID TO GET BLOWN UP!!!!

Oh holy f*ckin' sh*t about the pointers! There are a ton of pointers for EVE. You'll have to take it slow and learn as you go like a fine wine.
EVE is NOT a simple FPS. It is rich in features and environment and you must treat it like a chess game, not checkers.
Hence the reason I dropped the game and when I do periodically visit I mainly do ore and module trading via the market and a freighter.
Whereas DUST is more of a Guns 'N' Roses, EVE is a Marvin Gay song. |
