Its your right to use it, but really do you use it because you have to, or because you like going 10/2 instead of 7/3?

It is what it is. But seriously, why would you need to use your top level gear in pubs? I think it shows a lack of skill overall. If you need to deck out in the top gear, band in a full squad and camp on nanohive and uplinks it shows how bad you really are. There is a difference between being successful and being good. Its sad really. Ironically, most hardcore DUST players are the ones that used to b*tch about Call of Duty, about nobody was playing the objective, and that full teams of top prestige players were just tryhards who sucked at the game and couldn't do well otherwise... now they do it in DUST and its all cool.

Most players that run proto in pubs have a nice wallet amount and can afford to die 2 times also chances are if they only died 2 times in that game they only died 1 time or even 0 in the last. It doenst matter if the player is in proto. They could be in adv gear and it would be the same thing as proto because of the modules. They run proto just in case there are proto on the other team, they just want to pub stomp with proto, and because they want to. Take this into consideration. I play as a heavy. Prof 5 on HMG, 2 damage mods,and armor reps. I put the MH-82 on with the damage mods+ my Prof lvl 5 = boundless HMG easy. Armor reps are complex. I just turned my ADV suit into proto just in skills. I'm just not in a kick butt black suit.

If the opposing team is putting on a good stomp you'll get your fair share of deaths though. It might not cost you anything in a militia fit, but I'd rather have a sporting chance. And if proto means I lack skills, I'm fine with that as long as it means I increase my odds of surviving. The only thing I care about is how many times I die or don't die as the case usually tends to be.

Not oaying attention, doing something stupid and wrong plave at the wrong time can ****.you over.

I suppose I could ride a moped like many around here do but...I dont think I'd get the same enjoyment in riding, regardless of the potential.

With a Veyron however its a different story. ;) On a serious note, rarely use proto in pups, maybe one or two proto guns might slip by from time to time but its mostly advanced I use, often face protos however and if they can afford it, they might as well use it... I think many players got such money they can afford loosing protos here and there. =)

Come on, players in general want to use the best they possibly can, it is the FPS creed. In any other FPS would a player use lesser gear for the hell of it? No, of course not (under most circumstances). Why gimp ourselves when we can use something better, especially if we can afford it? Dust is the ONLY* FPS game I have played that meant I lose more than KDR if I died. But I still run the best I can in every situation cause that is what I do in any other FPS online game. Proto squads are the problem (or a proto lone-wolf being paired with a full squad or two of some well-known corp/players), but certainly not random players using proto. Hell, I love seeing a lone-wolf player bring proto to a well-balanced match. Cause they are viable kills that I know cost them a lot of ISK. I mean just look at the gameshows CCP hosted back in closed beta, ALL those players had 100% full proto everything (including 100% maxed out skills in everything), yet they got their asses royally kicked. I still remember getting nearly a million ISK in one match going against the 100% proto turkeys who sucked beyond suck. Proto doesn't mean anything if the player isn't good, doesn't have a good team, and/or is out-classed by a better team.

If you go up against protos, look at it as an opportunity to get better. What you learn facing a proto can be used to be effective in this game. I see protos and accept the challenge. I don't care if you got red eyes, I'm blasting away with my "OP" AR Also, protos are not the Goliaths of this game. In fact, you can take down a proto. But that takes what is involved in the previous paragraph; actually going toe to toe with them and realizing that all mercs bleed the same.
