I could run a suit with less tank and a weaker weapon but...why exactly? If I have a Ferrari I can drive I doubt I'll bother taking out the Prius.
If there were only academy grads in pub matches then maybe it wouldn't be an issue; however I see plenty of proto in pubs, along with tanks, dropships and all other manner of things that is proficient at killing me. Now I could run around in militia gear and die 10 times to prove my manhood, but its really not my style
Also, don't fly what you can't afford to lose. Or deploy what you can't afford to lose in this case. |

A bit of an exxageration, but I have seen some 0/10 matches from guys. If the opposing team is putting on a good stomp you'll get your fair share of deaths though. It might not cost you anything in a militia fit, but I'd rather have a sporting chance.
And if proto means I lack skills, I'm fine with that as long as it means I increase my odds of surviving. The only thing I care about is how many times I die or don't die as the case usually tends to be. |

If you had a Ferrari, chances are you'd never get on a stretch of road that can really take the car to its potential... it's a waste. If you were good, you wouldn't be dying 10x no matter what gear you run.
I've got an R1 and I'll never take that to its full potential. Its insane acceleration is still enjoyable though. I suppose I could ride a moped like many around here do but...I dont think I'd get the same enjoyment in riding, regardless of the potential.

Hmm...I could take out this F-22 Raptor and engage in a battle. Nah, I might as well take this soviet era Mig, its cheaper afterall. Plus it'll show off my awesome skilz. |

Can some players really not top a pub leader board unless they are decked out in a 180k suit? In a pub, I don't think proto makes any difference in your effectiveness.
I guess it does save you from having a list of fits to scroll through, but I for one like trying random fits in pubs
So, let's just say proto is a crutch. Then what? I don't get the award for the best player in Dust? I'm not challenging myself to scale the peaks of FPS greatness?
How many militia fits have you seen top leaderboards, honestly |

Real men post on forums about how they're the manliest men in their video games.
Maybe one day I too shall become a real man and go 30/5 with my militia fit. Until then~ |

Also, don't fly what you can't afford to lose. Or deploy what you can't afford to lose in this case. Because you are not just driving a ferari, you are driving it in competition with ppl in prius. So you look like a douche when you roll out your Ferari. Like bringing a gun to a knife fight.
Right... cause all those douches that roll Ferraris and Porsches and Lambos really care what peons in Prius think huh. I mean, would you really care? |
