You should be able to remedy this by going into PS3 safe mode and using option 3, restore files. Google is happy to help if you are unsure how to go about this.

The message that pops up is "you can't join the battle because you are not squad leader. You must leave your squad to join a new battle." the real kicker is I'm not in a squad ;) This occurs every three to four games requiring a quit and restart....
