For public games, I'd say team is best. Later on if you're on an actual organized team, squad might be better for less chatter and more squad cohesion. Barely anyone talks now, so team is fine.

I like it. Militia gear is like EVE civilian gear--it requires no skills, but is not unlimited. Starter fits are like rookie ships--they require no skill and are given for free. They're basically so you can never be unable to undock with no ship....

In EVE, it affects lock time and such, but in DUST it's probably related to showing up on the mini-map. If you or a teammate has a visual, they show up, but after visual is lost, they'll disappear after a short time.
