The maps aren't built for it anymore- the range you're trying to snipe at is most likely within range of other weapons with higher DPS. Not to mention the shoddy hit detection allowing about 2 out of 5 shots in a mag to actually deal damage.

Luckily, the higher-ups in CCP agree that more than a port is needed, which is why Legion has far more resources than Dust. They even have a 3D modeler, rather than reskinning existing content.
