I've been gone for awhile, but I played a little this week.
Before it was bad and the majority of games where a landslide, but every now and then there would actually be a game where both teams struggled for the objective(s) and the game actually ended up close.
Now it seems the last of the close and fun games have finally died out.
Every match goes one of 3 ways:
I run my usual logi and end up farming my teammates the whole match trying to prevent us from getting redlined by repping and dumping fresh links every 2 minutes. This ends with me experiencing a large number of deaths, few kills, and roughly 2-3 thousand more warpoints than the runner up.
I go assault out of frustration and kill as many mercs as i can. The match ends with me and 1 or 2 of my other teammates having a positive KDR. The rest of the team is lucky to have a single kill each.
I go assault out of frustration and kill as many mercs as i can, fail miserably at it, and get my face beat in along with the rest of my team.
So do we add close (good, fun, etc.) games to the extinct species list?

Its not the game's fault, its the player's fault to be either too pro or too scrub.
You can complain all you want about lasers. Despite the nerfs it will rip you to shreds.

I think soon as CCP finishes ironing out the deployment snafus they will work on the seeing the balancing done.
Also remember after patch day lots of people spawn in and don't really play because they are fixing and working on fittings. Plays hell with match making all together.

Dude the answer is complicated.
On one hand, you have gamers with their uber desire to win and with that, they will choose any load out to give them an edge. While that is cool bro, that can have negative impact on the game and you can't change that.
On the other, you have devs who try to balance the game by their own numbers and player feedback. But whatever the Dev adjust, initial point about player finding the best load out, comes into play.
So its a never ending cycle. For instance, CalAss once ruled the day. Complaints came in and numbers crunched. Back then, the words racial parity and balance were thrown out so casually like powdered mints at your favorite restaurant. Balance could never be achieved because whatever CCP changed, the cowherd would just migrate to the next big thing and exploit that.
Remember people complaining about nade spam? Slaylogis? Terminator tanks? Drop ships? Swarm launchers? Nanohive camping? Most has been changed only to later on be complained about for their weakness or OPness. Some are even making a comeback. What will we do then?
The cycle never changes. Sometimes the transparency and the gamer himself, really fogs what is true balance.
Therefore, proper balance is never achieved. Just acceptance of current state (survival) which is perceived falsely as balance.

I hope so.
Did they do away with the old balancing system used for pubs?

You shouldn't pay any attention to the quality of matches this week, which has been generally awful. Why?
Because the Krin Salvage Event, which causes everybody and their mother to don't give a flying kitten about winning (or helping teammates), and just focus on their individual goals. I don't blame them, as I did the same
Secondly we just had Warlords 1.2 dropped which shook the meta at its core with Tiericide and Smaller Fireteams. All great changes, but I would wait a week or two until everybody's Mu score and matchmaker have time to settle.

I see a fairly good diversity at least as far as scout, assault, logi, and heavy go.
The difference im describing in my post now is the skill level between team's players. Not the equipment people use.

Good question.
Since 1400Z this morning I've been running pubs solo to try and track what the matchmaking experience is like for noobs.
Here are the results.
Shouldn't be much of a surprise

Which is the problem.
Anybody should be able to play a game of Dust and have fun. A landslide is not fun for me no matter which side I'm on.

It's impossible to play solo because there are so many people not playing the objectives. It's a crap shoot on which side has more of these types vs the other. Some people just leave at the start based on the names they see before the match starts, but sometimes those big names don't fight (maybe they are knocking out some missions).
Perhaps the stomping created the mindset that plagues Dust at the moment, but I think it has vastly more to do with incentives that don't move the needle enough. |

Powdered mint's? HA! That's giving them too much credit. Ever had that first born child that you didn't want AND wasn't the gender you wanted? That's Caldari, right there... Everything else however is true.

I've had actually the opposite effect. I play a lot of CFW, and the matches are very close. Like clone counts. Ever since the new warlords it's been like this, as opposed to before, we were constantly red lining them
