As much as I enjoy the way skill and ship progression in EVE is set up, much of Dust's monetization is built around the tiered system. I simply don't see them moving away from that, nor do I think they really need to.

Well, that is kind of the function of racial bonuses on dropsuits. The bonuses should reflect the racial flair of that race. Now how well this is actually executed in suit bonuses is often sketchy, but the intent is there.

A more robust trading system is in the works. The current system was just available sooner so they released it when it was ready, but it was never intended to be a final version. Also to avoid getting scammed, don't fall for scams.
