They used to be different, a very long time ago. There was a time when people used the GEK instead of a Duvolle because it worked better at longer ranges. Been quite a while since this was true though, but I'm not sure when the guns were equalized.

This probably isn't restricted to just mass driver rounds. There's a guy in my corp who runs nothing but absurdly brick tanked gallente logi suits, and every once in a while he'll have a militia grade weapon do 1000+ damage in the blink of an eye....
