As long as I run anything but a logi I tend to do okay over the long term. With logi at best I break even. Some equipment and mods are just over priced. CCP wants it this way because liquid isk means less reason to bu aurum.

I've just always found they add survivability, particularly in those cases where I would get shot in the back and need a half second to turn and and drop em. Haven't used any proto in 1.8 yet though so with the lower TTK it's probably even better.
