Yes, this happens to me on a regular basis. Earlier this week my Active Scanner became my Shotgun. One time a month ago it turned into a SMG with unlimited bullets. I couldn't stop firing either. Quite amusing!

The two Assault SMGs are very deadly I would not discount them just because they are sidearms. Of course feel free to underestimate them all you want. Gives me a nice little advantage when people do.
