Considering the increase of bugs on comms I saw yesterday, which was more than I've ever seen before, I'd say you've still some improvements to make. Glad to see you isolated a problem though.

According to the blog 1.3 fixed the comms issue? I think more data needs to be gathered as the comms are more glitchy than ever, ie no mic icons, and pc has been worse for many, ie cant sprint, worse hit detection and 1/3rd of a team hard freezing... not sure if its all related as I only participated in 3 pc matches but those complaints were common.

Get two large oil heating radiators and soak your feet in hot water when you get back to your apartment after work. See guys, this is what your devs go through for you!

BTW you probably heard such chaos on comms because of muting. Everybody was talking at once but squad members were only hearing 5 other people, and squad leaders were hearing their squad plus other squad leaders. Maybe you knew that. Anyways yeah PC frame rate is horrid so if y'all fixed that you get an epic Hi 5.n Enjoy Shanghai.

Try to be more timely with this sort of thing and you'll get a LOT fewer complaints about CCP not communicating.

Not so much whining and complaining as legitimate feedback of a legitimate problem. Go to any channel and you will find - at maximum - three speaker icons indicating who is in the channel.

This can disrupt players who are looking for a squad and disrupt officers from being able to communicate with other officers as we pour through channels one at a time trying to find the person we're looking for.

Another big issue is that with the new changes - I have no idea who the hell is talking. 20+ people in a chat channel, voices start sounding alike unless I can put a visual que on one of them to understand who it actually is.

So, good improvement, but I think that another major issue with PC FPS drops is the sheer amount of animations associated with Drop Uplinks and Nanohives being spammed like crazy - open up your map and you'll notice this even more.

BTW: could you add some sound filter to chat channels so our voices, while in battle, would sound like coming through "old-style" radio communications? Now the chat sounds so clean. This video will explain it all: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=n6Y35UvfCQM&t=197
 It certainly adds some mood...

You might also want to look in to filtering sound below a certain intensity threshhold to not be broadcast.

I have been in too many pub matches where I had to mute everyone because someone was jamming out to Linkin Park in the background, or there were people discussing dinner plans.

That or allow a user setting to tweak the mic pickup like how TS/Vent/Mumble do so people can tune their mic sensitivity. As it stands you are basically processing the raw input and shoving it out, which lets us hear every mouth breather in painful clarity.

The long range smoothness is awesome. Following a jeep in a drop ship (while hopefully an enemy gunner is shooting back at you) is top notch now. Can we get a mode with a moving objective? Something like skirmish, but each point must be taken in sequence. Convoy rush is a good thing.

Great work on resolving this issue, Devs and Corps and peeps. It's an important step forward.

I quoted the above because imma hoping that another important observation came out of this exercise for CCP, namely how the lack of structured command channels for voice is goofifying the game. What we have atm is leaning a bit towards the mickey mouse side of the design spectrum. But kudos on the quality of the free voice chat - very well done imo.

Pro comms(I don't need to reiterate what we need in voice comms/hud support, there are plenty of threads out there) are essential. I believe that comms as currently implemented is limiting player-generated content. Changes coming to the scanner, etc., only serve to highlight the need for structured comms with a clean, intuitive hud interface - i wanna know when my scout is talking.

So congratz on your frame-rate victory peeps, you've earned a few seconds to reload, staunch the bleeding, and adjust the armor before the next wave hits - it's early in the battle yet ;)

WHY DO I THINK your fix is the reason why so many people are complaining about the hit detection now right after 1.3 release.

Played two PC matches today, didn't have to see the blog or this post - my frames per second were at around 30 compared to the normal 10.

-side note: there was one point in a PC today at which i entered an area with 30-40 friendly dropuplinks / nanohives and i instantly dropped to 5ish frames per second for around 6-7 seconds.

Thank you for the fix, and all of your recent works.

This is how EVE players use voice, and we expected this behavior from DUST players as well. But what we found in the chat channels was just short of total chaos. Everyone was discussing strategy, battlefield intelligence, and things less savory, often all at the same time. On top of this, the number of people in the chat channels simultaneously was much larger than we originally tested for.
You have got to be kidding me right?

Your best friend for tactical FPS Comms would be MAG. MAG did tactical FPS Comms perfect.

Lets see we are going to make a tactical FPS MMO and expect no one to talk to each other when doing battle that is costing millions of ISK, WTF please tell me you did not actually just say this.

Do us all a favor please, please, please, give this little pet project to a Dev company that knows what they are doing, please.

Oh and BTW it did not work, PC is a LAG fest still.

That's FPS players for you; I'm one of the few people I know of who uses push-to-talk, and usually just talks for strategic reasons.

I was watching a friend of mine during a big fleet-op or whatever you want to call it. His mic was broken so he had to put chat on his computer's speakers- only a few people ever said anything, out of the massive fleet.

i have noticed a big problem changing seats in lavs and drop ships i hit the change seat button and don't move some times 4 several tries this has caused me to die a few times or miss a chance at a kill do to not switching to gun from driver seat . why is it when changing seats you don't go between gun seats and driver seats? this is a big issue in drop ships as when going from 1 gun to the other there are 4 seats so changing side to shoot some one is very hard .

as a sniper i am having a harder time seeing players far away on the map i will see a red arrow but no player animation.
i have also seen an issue with players running through structures in the distance, and have seen players spawn in side crates

Voice comms are getting a lot of love these days. Currently it's a lot of backend work to speed it up and stabilize the connection, but we will be focusing on quality improvements in the future. There's def still issues.
These improvements take time since we have to coordinate with vivox (our voice provider) who are doing some great work. We've identified all the problem areas and have a really good plan for the future. After that we can have a good look at how to structure voice chat to take into account roles and situations (some good ideas in this thread).

Anyway, I'm glad to hear that people can see this improvement in game. Actually it was one of a few behind the scenes improvements.

Now the problem is that you can only see 3-4 people's chat bubbles in a channel even if more people are talking. This becomes a pretty big problem in team chat for PC battle when you're forced to hear everyone talking. It's also annoying when you want to mute someone in a channel because they're playing music or being annoying and you can't because their chat bubble never appears (and thus the mute option isn't available).

 Good job <3

Give me a shout if you need live players to test your comms with in your Shanghai office and I'll be happy to pop over to game with CCP

On a separate but related note, could you implement a little speech bubble pop up of whoever is talking? This makes it easier to identify the speaker.

You live in China? I might move there. You can play Dust from there?

Since implementation of this, I keep getting a notification that my voice comms AREN'T working. Glad that improvements are being made to PC, yet it seems I'm locked out of all voice chat now. Thoughts?

Yes, living in Shanghai and internet is good. A bit congested during peak hours 7pm-1am in high density areas like apartment complexes but otherwise I get 10MB connection which bumps up to 20MB in the wee hours of the morning.

Slight lag behind eu and us, but it's bearable

Good to know man thanks! I lived in China for a long time so I know what you're talking about. Glad you can connect from there.

Bugs and broken code I can understand, but my confidence in CCP took a big hit when I read that they expected only three people to ever speak on coms during a battle.

This is a team based FPS! Have they ever played one before deciding to write one??

Really? comms? Oh that is great, lets have ccp spend time on comms when so much else needs work. Yea comms are great, corp battles are great, taking planets are great, but lets get the core game working first and then add to it in stages that ccp can handle.
ok now tell me you don't agree, but would it not be great to have a fps that works and then add to that base new stuff that works? instead of having so many options and nothing really works right or is polished?

The turret issue on the LAV, I like to have my blaster set in a certain direction, I would love to drive my LAV today, jump on my blaster and mow some people down, I'm a one man team in my LAV, driver and gunner ,I waste precious seconds trying to turn my turret because once I set my blaster a certain way it never stays that way. CCP I need to be combat effective, my controller and I are one, my mercenary has to respond quickly when I'm pressing buttons. The controls have to be fluent, my reflexes and hands work fast, when I press that O button to revive a down comrade that needs to happen quick every kill is a split second decision and every death is a split second wasted. Thanks CCP for addressing the problems . Awesome news today.
the turret issue in LAV's is HUGE it costs lives and time not to mention dis-orating.

Can we get a mode with a moving objective? Something like skirmish, but each point must be taken in sequence. Convoy rush is a good thing.
Ps. Defrag your PS3, peeps. Google it. It really improves performance.

 ^^this is true

However, still experiencing lag spikes, characters disappearing into the floor walls, inability to hit someone moving through a container (even though its open both sides?!), hit detection being really f****d up to slightly annoying, and getting stuck while moving through gaps, sound keeps going fuzzy at times, comms cutting in and out, ninja mics....

Thanks for the rebalance on flaylocks though!

After just submitting a request through my ticket system, and just after finishing up a PC, both myself (Director) and ryn0 (CEO) of KILL ORDERS experienced a DUST514 LOCKOUT! Both of us could not even log back in for nearly an hour, both of us once logged back in took at least 5 mins for it to login then after character selection screen it would not allow ANYTHING to be accessed, including NEO COM and chat channels.... THIS IS UN-ACCEPTABLE, I would suggest looking at my report ticket as soon a humanly possible as you now have a Corporation and two pre-beta players that are both very very annoyed at the denial of service because DUST 514 has LOCKED BOTH OF US OUT!.... Pissed off is just the beginning.
