I wonder if a combination of dedicated servers, moderation, and account creation fees could keep hacking in check. Hacking can be dealt with. Planetside 2 had monstrous hacking problems in early days but that was because the devs didn't apply any effort in dealing with it. Once they got their act together hacking dried up and almost completely disappeared. Its not an unsolvable problem. Oh yeah? Good to hear! Yeah... I'm all for PC client here. CCP seems to struggle with Sony's development requirements. I suspect they could do a lot more if they had the proper platform. I would even pay sub for a PC version of this game (after a little polishing).
When PC players couldn't have raw input mouse speed turns they would quit and complain. Just like now they would cry "no fun, no fair" and stop playing. PC isn't the best idea for the game and also CCP wants it on console so putting it on PC would be the opposite of what they are trying to do.

The games scope is too big to be done on PC. It would be hacked within hours.
Controls are not the the issue -- have KB/M. Graphics are kind of an issue, but we have PS4 client coming to fix that.
PC offers nothing aside from hacker problems.
I have to agree FPS PvP play is well suited for consoles as the OP mentioned hacking...but that is not all. All consoles are the same so no one person has a hardware advantage.
Yes there are modded controllers but their benefits are situational and can be contained pretty easily.
The only thing i don't like about console FPS is the general lack of KB/M controls....Dust supports that. |

Here's a question...
Is there a lot of hacking in eve?
I've not really heard of it being a problem.
If CCP can develop eve to not suffer constant hacking issues.. Why couldn't they develop dust to do the same?
Genuine question, I don't know anything about game development. |

I wonder if a combination of dedicated servers, moderation, and account creation fees could keep hacking in check. The important bits of Dust are already server side authenticated. New accounts are already siloed to some degree in the academy matches. I'd say that CCP's bets are hedged. If the game files are such that numbers like weapons damage or movement speed can be edited with hotfixes, that means PC would have access to editing the same numbers. Why is that? Hotfixes are server side, patches are client side. (At least for dust) PCs could only ever have access to client side mechanics.
Data that can be hotfixed is stored on the PC in a file they have access to, and can edit. |

its more like majority of the items, weapons, stats and the sorts are all stored server side and there is no localized information pulled from any client outside of input signals.
Now its possible to packsniff incomming information and 'alter' the way it is displayed on a localized client to which most wall hacks, super radar and the sorts work on popularized cheats for games. |

Of course ... and EVE files isn't stored on pc hard drive ... RIGHT... i play EVE since 2010 and only hack i ever have seen was some mining bots . CCP is dealing really good with hackers and they have enough money for both Dust 514 and EVE support . Any way Dust 514 is game where you really need a lot of effort to be competetive vs. other players and you Need SP . Your characters are on the serwer soo even some hackers would like to try hack with 400k sp what type woould he use ?! Wall hack ? Please u see enemies on radar anyway , Aim hack ?? surely militia AR will win with 6 mil Sp gamer...

I once knew a man who hacked EVE as well.
I still have a video of him taking a joyride in someone else's Caracal.
But there are two reasons you don't see this as often.
1. Subscription games in which you are found guilty of hacking result in the loss of years worth of investment. It's therefore not really worth it unless you are part of an ISK/Gold selling RMT operation and can afford to sustain such losses.
2. FPS games in general have fairly simple hacks that can be used across many games. Disabling the textures on walls to make every surface translucent is very easy to program on any game and can give you an incredible advantage. It wouldn't help in something like EVE, but in Dust it would be incredibly useful. Aimbots also have thousands of variations that can be used to make them work correctly without actually changing client code. To get a useful advantage in EVE, you tend to have to alter the client or directly hack into the server itself -- both are much more difficult to do and attract attention far easier. |

I know there's hacking, sure, will always be in any game, its hard to fully stamp out client side aimbots and such. But its not rampant uncontrolled lunacy like it used to be, you can put a stop to 80-90% of you wish. |

Being on PC would not make this game better it would just die against all the other PC free to play shooters already out there that has way more content and enjoyable skill system than dust
CCP have already shown to be extremely slow developers
over the past year most of the "New" stuff we have gotten is just color swaps and most of the new stuff we will get will be color swaps
we joined dust because we were told that it would be interesting and in its current state it is more flawed than interesting its missing to much stuff and is being developed to slowly to keep the average persons attention

How's that going to happen if CCP ditches consoles and goes to PC? Regardless of their original intentions ... It's clear this game is not doing well on the PS3. They have thrown **** at the wall and expect people to eat it. Of course it didn't do well.
It would have the same reaction on a PC. EVE never had competition, aside from a few games that never came out of beta, so the argument that PC players won't ditch it is invalid. |

The real question is.. Is this game not doing well because of the ps3?
It is well known that the ps3 is a pita to code for... Not to mention the ram is laughable.
Also... Equipment and active modules would be about 100x better if you could use 1GÇô2-3-4 instead of the horrible equipment wheel we have now. |

This isn't a doom and gloom post. I like this game and want it to succeed. But I feel it has no future at its current rate of development on a console that's approaching the end of its lifespan.
There is a lot of content that was promised and has yet to be implemented in this game. And with the PS4 on the horizon, how many players will still be around when it's finally "finished."
I don't know why CCP chose to develop on the PS3 rather than PC. If it was an attempt to attract a more casual gaming crowd then that ship has already sailed it seems. CCP had their big "release," on May 14. Player numbers peaked around that time and have steadily declined since. In all likelihood no matter what kind of update we get player numbers will never surpass that level again.
Dealing with console technical limitations has hindered the development of this game up to this point and will limit the scope of the game in the future. If CCP wants to take the longterm approach with their games then the computer is a much better medium for them.
Anyone else feel the same way?

PS3 is a pita to code for yes, but you can pull it off, plenty of games that show that. I would say the choice of engine was bad, unreal engine 3 is known to require heavy modifications to work well on a PS3. |
