This really does seem like it was meant to be a PC game.. ESP with the horrid equipment wheel
Its too bad hackers are such a problem on PC...
I wonder if a combination of dedicated servers, moderation, and account creation fees could keep hacking in check. |

I wonder if a combination of dedicated servers, moderation, and account creation fees could keep hacking in check. The important bits of Dust are already server side authenticated. New accounts are already siloed to some degree in the academy matches. I'd say that CCP's bets are hedged. If the game files are such that numbers like weapons damage or movement speed can be edited with hotfixes, that means PC would have access to editing the same numbers.
Why is that?
Hotfixes are server side, patches are client side. (At least for dust)
PCs could only ever have access to client side mechanics. |

Dust was meant to get console players to get into the EVE universe. Not so EVE players could have a shooter to play in-universe. Dust is supposed to draw people into EVE, not the other way around.
How's that going to happen if CCP ditches consoles and goes to PC?
Regardless of their original intentions ... It's clear this game is not doing well on the PS3. |

I wonder if a combination of dedicated servers, moderation, and account creation fees could keep hacking in check. Hacking can be dealt with. Planetside 2 had monstrous hacking problems in early days but that was because the devs didn't apply any effort in dealing with it. Once they got their act together hacking dried up and almost completely disappeared. Its not an unsolvable problem.
Oh yeah? Good to hear!
Yeah... I'm all for PC client here. CCP seems to struggle with Sony's development requirements. I suspect they could do a lot more if they had the proper platform.
I would even pay sub for a PC version of this game (after a little polishing). |

Here's a question...
Is there a lot of hacking in eve?
I've not really heard of it being a problem.
If CCP can develop eve to not suffer constant hacking issues.. Why couldn't they develop dust to do the same?
Genuine question, I don't know anything about game development. |

Genuine question, I don't know anything about game development. Free to play FPS game.... MMO subscription game. BIG difference.
Is it really though? What's the difference? |

They have thrown **** at the wall and expect people to eat it. Of course it didn't do well. It would have the same reaction on a PC. EVE never had competition, aside from a few games that never came out of beta, so the argument that PC players won't ditch it is invalid.
The real question is.. Is this game not doing well because of the ps3?
It is well known that the ps3 is a pita to code for... Not to mention the ram is laughable.
Also... Equipment and active modules would be about 100x better if you could use 1GÇô2-3-4 instead of the horrible equipment wheel we have now. |

Nobody wants to lose money. If you hack a F2P game, you just open another account, nothing lost. If you hack a sub game, you will lose everything you paid.
So a one time account activation fee, combined with the SP system could solve most hacking problems on its own? |

PS3 is a pita to code for yes, but you can pull it off, plenty of games that show that. I would say the choice of engine was bad, unreal engine 3 is known to require heavy modifications to work well on a PS3.
Selecting the right piece of equipment is still fairly inconsistent for the most part, its usually 2-3 attempts to pull out the right piece of equipment when you have 3-4 on that wheel.
Active modules on a tank are even worse cause you can inadvertently turn them off trying to select the right one! |
