I'm starting to think that it would be in everyone's best interest to let this iteration of Dust die and start development on a PC version.
This isn't a doom and gloom post. I like this game and want it to succeed. But I feel it has no future at its current rate of development on a console that's approaching the end of its lifespan.
There is a lot of content that was promised and has yet to be implemented in this game. And with the PS4 on the horizon, how many players will still be around when it's finally "finished."
I don't know why CCP chose to develop on the PS3 rather than PC. If it was an attempt to attract a more casual gaming crowd then that ship has already sailed it seems. CCP had their big "release," on May 14. Player numbers peaked around that time and have steadily declined since. In all likelihood no matter what kind of update we get player numbers will never surpass that level again.
Dealing with console technical limitations has hindered the development of this game up to this point and will limit the scope of the game in the future. If CCP wants to take the longterm approach with their games then the computer is a much better medium for them.

Plenty of people do, and they are all short sighted.
The games scope is too big to be done on PC. It would be hacked within hours.
Controls are not the the issue -- have KB/M. Graphics are kind of an issue, but we have PS4 client coming to fix that.
PC offers nothing aside from hacker problems. |

Will never happen. CCP would loose too many Eve players. It would be like throwing money away. |

I kinda agree with the ditch PS3 and go to PC only. We will have much better games to play and this is a CONSOLE game after all don't need to be mixing KB and M on console. |

The PS3 is definitely part of the problem. Also, CCP wouldn't lose eve players to dust, but part of the point of dust is to make money off the console market, despite the diminishing console market. I still believe CCP has an exclusivity contract with Sony for some unknown duration, but after that, Dust will probably be released as widely as possible.
So, I think Dust on PC is an eventuality. |

For the ps4...I'm not going to go buy a pc for dust but most of us will be getting a ps4 either way so this is just a beta they've been secretly building dust on ps4 for release and they used ps3 and our feedback for testing which was then implemented on the ps4 version... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6O2ncUKvlg&feature=youtube_gdata_player |

I agree. Since CCP is so focused on KB/M compatibility, they should ditch the whole console thing and transfer to PC. The game is obviously aimed for the PC community.

This really does seem like it was meant to be a PC game.. ESP with the horrid equipment wheel
Its too bad hackers are such a problem on PC...
I wonder if a combination of dedicated servers, moderation, and account creation fees could keep hacking in check. |

I wonder if a combination of dedicated servers, moderation, and account creation fees could keep hacking in check. The important bits of Dust are already server side authenticated. New accounts are already siloed to some degree in the academy matches. I'd say that CCP's bets are hedged. |

If the game files are such that numbers like weapons damage or movement speed can be edited with hotfixes, that means PC would have access to editing the same numbers. |

Why is that?
Hotfixes are server side, patches are client side. (At least for dust)
PCs could only ever have access to client side mechanics. |

Oh FFS.
Dust was meant to get console players to get into the EVE universe. Not so EVE players could have a shooter to play in-universe. Dust is supposed to draw people into EVE, not the other way around.
How's that going to happen if CCP ditches consoles and goes to PC? |

Regardless of their original intentions ... It's clear this game is not doing well on the PS3. |

Hacking can be dealt with. Planetside 2 had monstrous hacking problems in early days but that was because the devs didn't apply any effort in dealing with it. Once they got their act together hacking dried up and almost completely disappeared.
Its not an unsolvable problem. |

Oh yeah? Good to hear!
Yeah... I'm all for PC client here. CCP seems to struggle with Sony's development requirements. I suspect they could do a lot more if they had the proper platform.
I would even pay sub for a PC version of this game (after a little polishing). |

Cost wise a competitive Personal Computer set up compared to a Play Station 4 isn't even funny. Some of us can't afford that kind of warefare. CCP made a smart bet with Sony. |

I would like to see ccp remove keyboard and mouse support so all the pc cry baby biatches would get off the forums and stop acting like this is the worst game ever made. They are corrupting the natural order of console forums. A console forum is supposed to consist of a stupid question that has been answered a thousand times followed by 15 to 20 snide remarks. All this bitching and wining belongs on pc. So, I guess I agree either remove Kb&m support to scare off pc player that don't know what true gaming and competition is, or move the game to pc. |

I don't feel that way at all. Being in PC wouldn't help the number of players. Being on PC would slow development because they would have to re write the code, again. PC players would not play this game just like the PS3 players aren't playing. The problem is sloppy mechanics and lack of content. Changing platforms would ensure the games death not prevent it.
The launch of PS4 isn't going to kill this game any more than the launch of a new video card kills eve. First off, they should have a PS4 dev kit and be working on a PS4 version. Secondly, the rest of the world still has a chance to buy a PS3 so there is still a going base. Lastly, just because the PS4 is launched doesn't mean the PS3 stops working or will be thrown out. There are almost 100 million of them and I doubt everyone who owns one is trashing it this holiday season. |
