Maikyl Metsar wrote:*Metsar finishes sealing the wound. He sighs and grabs a towel, wiping the blood from his hands.*
"His body may live, but I doubt it, the knife cut too deep. What a waste of a clone."
*He checks the pulse.*
"Dammit he's fading. Should you perish, may God ease your passing, and guide you to your next life. Torsuul, clean up his blood."
*The slave, with his Ealurian brawn, lifts the dying clone and places him on a sofa by the far wall. Then resumes cleaning the bloodied marble floor. Metsar stands and faces Steady.*
"Do not be so eager to die. I know what you're thinking. Your immortality gives you no fear of death, and you think this makes you strong? Such is folly. How can one fight fiercer than others, go farther than others, defeat others, if they lack the greatest instrument God gave our spirits; the fear of dying. A day will come when we will return to flesh no more. So I treat every life as though it were my last. For life is God's currency, spend it well..."
Ah, but we have surpassed the limitations that God has put on us. Our bodies may remain mortal, but our minds have been made eternal. I am aware though that this has come at a terrible cost: the scarring of our souls. Very few mortals ever experience death more than once. For us, the trauma of dying thousands upon thousands of death fractures us and has driven some of us (the weaker minded) mad. I consider the cost of this "immortality" to be justified in my own mind, but this eternal life is not for everyone. Those that join our ranks and would call us brother or sister should be fully educated on the price of our immortality. As for me I look forward to living on each and every planet in New Eden. |

*A tall man wrapped in a humbling civilian robe and shaved head is seen approaching the Emissary door. His walk is very calm and soothing yet bold at the same time. He eyes the fatally wounded bodied laying on the sofa and it is now clear he is not just passing by, though his facial expression remains blank. He stops outside the door and clears his throat just before performing a small bow*

"Forgive me. I am Orin Issa, a soldier and researcher for the State."
*Orin pauses again, as though waiting for a response. None is given.*
"There is this colleague of mine. You see, at this time he is usually locked away in his quarters at the Caldari halls of the summit. He would always be talking to someone, perhaps through a communications channel. I've had my suspicions, but minded my own."
*Again, a pause. The ranking officer in the Emissary seemed to know where this was going, but Orin continued regardless.*
"Today I heard no such talk from his quarters. As I glanced over, I noticed his door was not fully closed. I walked inside and found no sign of him, but did find his weaponry cabinet emptied. At that moment I was drawn here by a loud noise coming from this direction. It appears you have met my colleague, or at least what was once him."

"My time in the chapel has tempered my frayed nerves some, I had to contemplate Anoyia's scriptures several times....but these guests....Immortal they may be, like the capsuleers, yet their arrogance knows no bounds."
He looks about uncomfortably noting the man covered with Sanmatar tattoo's, then the corpse of Galm Fae.
"Blast it al..." He reaches for his scrambler pistol but stops short when Metsar raises a hand in a display of exhaustion. Eying the strange Amarrian with the tatoo's with disdain he turns back to face the energy field, raised his chin, and begins another litany to clam himself. ((Can't tell who stabbed who here, we all kind of reacted differently. I am just assuming both for story purposes.))
Going into that Emissary was a mistake in itself you damned fool.
Father, spare me.
What did you even expect to do?
Not really sure. Something productive.
You can't keep secrets from me Galm.
It happens every once and a while. Of course the voice wasn't real. At least, he never let himself believe it. It only came out when he needed it to. It was an escapism trick from his youth. More often than not, it was also a huge thorn in his side too. He could pretend for a moment that his ancestors were still on his side, guiding him along. The Way dictated that his father would always walk with him... But it was doubtful that he would still be on his side.
As a matter of fact, I am. I am not giving up on you. Now stop being stubborn, you know I am here for you.
I must be losing a lot of blood, I am believing my own trick.
What, you don't believe in The Way? What about the time you took a pilgrimage to the Landfall Shrine. Your mother and I taught you how valuable your faith is, Intaki and Caldari both. What happened to that lost child who prayed for hours for to hear words of wisdom from his dear father?
You didn't speak to me. You never did. Not until I had already killed off all I am.
You weren't ready, but I see now that I should have guided you more than I had.
Maybe his implant was reacting strangely, unable to determine if Galm was alive or dead. In a blurred state he could vaguely hear the Templar say something about his own voices. These blasted implants will drive us all mad. If he had gone in with his suit on he would have a terminate button and just jump out of this clone instead of bleeding out on some (admittedly comfortable) piece of Amarr furniture.
Are you even paying attention right now boy!?
Nah, the knife in my gut makes things a bit hard to focus on. I think he might have cut something important.
Everything went by in flashes. One moment he was clutching a pistol. He felt the cold metal on his trigger finger. The next instant, he was sprawled, looking out at a group of Caldari gathering in the Emissary. He took note of them. They were... Looking for him? What spirit had thought this up and put it into motion? He convulsed a few more times, and found himself alone for some time, slowly fading out.
There are better ways to reclame your honor.
Tano haki fuzasen.
Stop using that filthy language, you are better educated than that. Leave that tongue to steelworkers and farmers.
Galm had a lengthy talk with his father, attempting to sort out the riddles of the universe, convening on what he had done with his life and playing simple work games silently in his head as the nanites worked their way through his veins. They began to recollect together what the Amarr had said to him
Don't be so eager to die. The new wars are for hearts and minds.
Right... Right... Okay, not dying here. Not yet. I like this clone's hair, and I am not leaving your jacket here.
Comically, Galm rolls himself onto his feet. He presses his finders to his own chest. The bleeding had ruined his shirt, but the nanites had kept him alive. Instantly he turned to the Templar, stumbling over himself with more energy than he should be expending right now.
"Caldari. Soldiers. Came in here? Where go?... Actually, no, glass of water, then tell me? Oh... Sorry I made a mess of your floor...."
Or am I? Were these the guys that stabbed me?
...

"Rikaato," he says with a smug sense of pride as he shoots back the two pills before quaffing down the glass of water.
He wipes his lips with his blood-soaked sleeve, leaving a streak of red across his cheek. He looks at his empty glass, as if expecting it to replenish on its own. After fully assessing that it was in fact empty, he places the cool glass to his forehead and shuts his eyes as he tries to calm his thinking.
No, the other Templar left. This one... He helped me. Why did he help me?
Eventually he sets down his glass and faces the soldier, rubbing his should awkwardly, taking care not to ruin his Legion patch.
"I can pay for that sofa by the way. I'll make sure to wire you the ISK..."
All of a sudden he felt ashamed and humbled to be before the man. He had just saved his life... Granted, that didn't mean much to us mercenaries. But still... What if it did? Even if he were mortal, this Amarr would have worked to save his life.
"You... You saved me. You and the other Templar. Why did you do that? What do you want from me? What, were you going to torture me? Not every day you catch a cloner without his armor. You could have kept me alive just to make my suffering last."
His breathing increases heavily as a mix of confusion, panic, and an odd sense of gratefulness washes over him.
"Rukkuone haki, that isn't fair of me. Forgive me, please. I never expected your kind to... Forget it."
He leans his head back and sniffles slightly, trying to calm down. |

"It is not the Amarr way to torture, or to inflict senseless violence. All things must serve purpose in our faith. Despite what other empires think of us, we do not hate or harbor ill-will toward even our slaves. For we all serve God. Men who abuse their slaves like that templar are wrong. Many emperors wrote of it, and Jamyl has decreed the sin of such actions. This is a universe of of order and hierarchy, we all do our part to strive toward Semper Pax, eternal peace. Slave, serf, commoner, holder, and emperor; all are necessary in the Almighty's plan. Each serves His will, and together we shine the Light of the universe."
*He puts the light and stethoscope away and hands the box to the slave, who takes it back behind the main desk.*
"As to why I saved you, you had done no wrong in my office. I am both a healer and a destroyer. In battle I shall show no mercy for my enemy, be they heathen and heretic, or simply mercenaries. And here I shall not suffer or tolerate heresies and debaucheries with impunity. However, all men are created by the grace of God, even if they choose to deny that God. And because of that fact that I show mercy on those who have yet to anger me. As for why I saved a clone, that is a tad longer, but in simple terms I have little faith in our 'immortality.' Each life is a gift from God that we should not squander, for the day will come when we re-awake no longer. And then we shall stand before judgement. My 'kind' are not the monsters the Empires make us out to be. We are human, just as you are human."
*He looks over the wound to make sure it's sealed.*
"I recommend you visit the Cathedral. Though your body seems mended perhaps your spirit should as well. God it seems has allowed you to retain this life a little longer, I would thank Him. I shall go with you if you wish."

For the first time, Galm finds himself speaking not to an Amarr, an Intaki, or a Caldari... He is speaking to a fellow human. The concept, while self-evident, seems alien and unsettling to him. The man before him was no drone to an Empress, but a proud individual who chose his own way of life and would not wish to see it any different.
Galm and Maikyl... They weren't so different.
We are both soldiers. We are both human. We are fundamentally the same.
The thought sat in Galm's stomach like a block of ice.
"I appreciate all of your help. Really, I do."
He checks his own wounds over again. If he could make it back to his quarters, he could access his logistical supplies and try to make things seal up a bit... Smoother? No, that wasn't quite the term he was looking for. He pats himself down as he addresses Maikyl.
"Look, frankly I doubt that your god would even want to speak with me. If we really are to be judged, spare me the wait. I am already damned."
He sniffles again before looking at his boots. For a moment or two, he ponders the prospect.
The Winds have always guided me. With that, what else am I to do but just... Go where the wind takes me?
"However," he begins begrudgingly, "If it will fulfill the debt I owe you in any way, then please, lead the way Templar."

As Kador exits the cavernous Cathedral of the Stayed Sword in the long winding corridors of the Emmisary he has time to mull over the Priestesses words.
It truly was a joy to serve the Empire, he had no other calling truth be told but it was a noble calling none the less and he would not complain.
On a whim he thought he would check in with Paladin Metsar. The Paladin was a man of intese faith and unwavering bravery and skill at arms, numerous tours of the Devoid region with the warrior had taught Kador much about the men and women of the Praetoriate, especially those of his fellow Templars. He hoped the blonde commandant of the Praetoriate ground forces would be in the golden emissary, no doubt immersed in some form of scripture or checking on troop dispositions on some barren frontier world in the Bleaks.
He could almost see the ornate desk, smell the musty notes of ancient texts, and hear the infrequent tones of a neocom....
To his surprise as he entered the room he saw a man clad in a lavish crimson robe, its features trimmed with golden lining, knelt in prayer.
"In the beginning all things were as one. God parted them and breathed life into his creation Divided the parts and gave each its place And unto each, bestowed purpose"
He knew that line, it was from the Scriptures, from the first book if he wasn't mistaken. A truly devout soul is this one he thought to himself silently. In anycase he felt compelled to reach out the the man.
Very much so aware of Templar 12's eyes on him he reached out touching the silky fabric of the robes, noting the fine stiching and lamenting that his own bland roughspun tunic and breaches were not more appropriate for pleasantaries.
"Brother you need not pray here, though your devotion to the Scriptures and the Faith is admirable. Where do you come from to visit us here at the Praetoriate Emissaries simply to pray here, Surely you must have seen the grand cathedral of the stayed sword?" |
