*Metsar takes the bread and spreads some goat's cheese on it. He then places a tomato or cucumber slice on it every few bites. He sips the tea occasionally, a ni-kunni brew he favoured early in the day. He pulls out his NeoCom and peruses his mails and a few prominent ACN articles. Noticing the reticence of his guest he decides not to push conversation. Though his thoughts meandered somewhere between curiosity and suspicion on the matters between Denak and Kador. Not that he particularly distrusted or sensed ill will from either, he just has a cautious mind in all situations. That much he had retained from his days in the fraternity's shadowy halls. Maikyl soon abandoned such thoughts and returned them to his meal. The paladin allowed himself two pleasures in his (rather extended) life, well deserved after many decades of asceticism and harsh piety. Those were games and food. On the former he was fond of many kinds of card and board games, especially ancient ones that he felt reflected important life lessons. On the later he was by no means a glutton, but he did take joy in teas and well prepared meals.* |

The Crusader sits quickly. Faster than that he draws himself a modest portion of the fish, taking a large chunk of the flat bread, and begins to assemble a small pile of the tomatoes, cucumber.
"Lord the almighty, we pledge to repay the debt owed by this our daily bread that we partake." he uttered under his breath, dropping his head, eyes closed in prayer.
Without hesitation he began to wolf the meal down, though not to fast, this was his commanding officer and guest, he was seated with. Manners were a necessity, though even thinking this he could not resist taking large bites of the grilled fish and flat bread.
When he was finished, he looked up from the cleared plate, and uttered another quiet prayer. In his usual manner he completed the obeisance with his favourite passage from the Scriptures.
"The word of the Lord is pure, it is a shield for the faithful. Brought unto men by the Angels, as a guiding light in the darkness."
Observances complete, he glanced up at the Intaki, then back to Maikyl.
"It is good to see you here Denak. I thank you again for the shelter you provided myself and Satja. I only hope I can repay in some way that kindness you showed me." |

With a deep sigh Kador returns his attentions to the seated Intaki, the man had be patient with him, and there was no doubt he wished to finish the conversation they had started in the Intaki Emissary earlier.
He relaxes in his chair, running a hand through the short cropped hair, then back down to the crimson sash across his chest straightening it, meticulously working out the slight imperfections in its glossy and lavish surface.
"Well then Denak, I suppose its time we get back to where we were." He says, turns to Metsar, giving him a strange defeated look.
"The paladin will already know this, or he will soon enough. But as I said earlier, Satja is indeed a mortal. "You brought Satja onto a clone soldier battlefield?" was the first thing that came into Denak's mind, tilting his head in curiosity at Kador. He wasn't sure why he would ever do such a thing, and an explanation on why would certainly sate his curiosity. "I...." The Templar hesitates, as if unsure what to say to justify his actions.
His head slumps defeated.
"I am loathe to part with her. She has been my servant and friend since my...turning... and one of those people who eased my doubts in the early days. I suppose ever since we dragged her out of the downed shuttle on Iesa III, badly burnt and scarred.... I feel.... responsible for her now."
He shrugged, shifted his position, pulling back the cuffs of his doublet to his elbows, then placing one squarely on the table so it would prop his head up. He looks troubled, his expression is distant, the eyes vacant, and dull. Perhaps somethings, he considered, are best left unsaid.
He looked first from Denak, now seemingly curious, his arms extended eagerly across the ornate table, then to Metsar, he wasn't sure if the look itself was disapproving, concerned, or simply indifferent.
All serve the Lord, another reflection, in many ways, is my own so different?
Inside his mind the Templar's Creed screamed at him.
"I will not hesitate when the test of Faith finds me, for only the strongest conviction will open the gates of paradise. My Faith in you is absolute; my sword is Yours, My God, and Your will guides me now and for all eternity."
He discarded the former thought as mere folly.
"In anycase, I found it.... disturbing to have left Satja on her own in combat. She has never seen the front lines of the Crusade, nor been allowed access to certain holy regions of our planets... but for the most part she has been close. A difficult life for a mortal...."
He smiled, as if some thought has given him great joy.
"I swear" you could hear the pride in his voice, it was a nostalgic and warm tone.
"She could have been a Kamiera that one. A better fighter that I was mortal... though I suppose not so learned. Either way she is important to me, like an anchor that keeps me in the present...."
His face felt hot as he said the last part, he sincerely hope the other two men did not see on interpret this change in him.
"Being an immortal soldier, even in the service of the Lord is difficult sometimes...damnation is not an easy prospect to face..... but one worth facing for my people. Surely Denak there must be things that you do that don't often make proper sense, I know this does not justify me risking her...but I.... I am kind of hoping you know how I feel on this." |

You don't need to justify your motives to me, I was just curious. You have a lot of faith in her, on her abilities." He assures, giving the Templar a brief, assuring smile. Downed shuttle, that's what the scars are for, he thought, it did make a lot more sense.

"I am glad you have someone to trust on, it is important." He noted, glancing down at his plate, and his hands. He didn't have anyone to rely on, he only had himself for the good part of his entire life. Maybe that was for the better, less heartache for him.

*The paladin gives Kador a disapproving look. Thinking back, he now remembers seeing the Matari woman in the rearguard bases of many of their operations. However he had always just assumed she was one of the serfs that often attended to templars before they returned to the front. Such a duty was common for slaves in service to the military. He did not much like the truth of the matter. Such an emotional crutch was dangerous and distracting, especially so near to the battlefield and present danger. What if the enemy decided to strike the rearguard? Would this templar abandon the front to save his precious slave? Such were the thoughts that filled Metsar's mind, though his countenance remained mostly stoic. He stood up and snapped his fingers, signalling for Torsuul to begin clearing the table. He thought on this old slave of his, who Metsar's father had given to him when he was a child. For decades they had survived together in this world, but Torsuul was not his friend. They were servant and master, and both respected this sacred relationship. His father had taught him that much before the end. It was the most important lesson a Holder must learn. Metsar went over to his desk to finish his requisitions work.* |

Kador could tell almost immediately that Metsar did not approve.
That's fine, he thought, it matters not anyway. As long as I am able to do my duty for God, Empire, and Empress in the way I was taught to such things are not an issue.
Either way Metsar never really approved of his actions, such was unfortunate, it often irked Kador to think is loyalty was in question, or worse, his Faith, so he was not surprised.
"Either way she grounds me. Gives me something more tangible to fight for. Lord knows the Faith is enough."
He turned back to the Intaki, meeting his gaze.

'I suppose that it seems odd for an immortal to place such... dependence on a mortal...My mind would say its folly but for the warning in my heart that tells me otherwise..."
He shrugged again.
"Many people have told me I am foolish over the years.... old friends, officers, and enemies...I suppose I have heard that all my life."
It was not meant as a self pitying thought he supposed, more reflective, his almost glossed over eyes were still wandering beyond the Emmisary, even now he was considering where Satja was. Was she filling out the Paladin's medical forms? At the cathedral in prayer? or elsewhere, lord knew she liked a to spar with the locals if they allowed her.

Behind him the door to the emissary open.
Satja walking, now looking a lot less dishevelled that before. Her hair is once again neatly hanging over her right shoulder, concealing the scars, the bags under her eyes gone, they now look about the room with renewed vigour.
She enters wearing her typical servants garb. A rough spun tunic of similar material and weave to Kador's own tunic he wore for less formal occasions, tan leather breeches, with slim knee high boots in a deep mud brown. The silver promise band at her throat was once again glinting with delight, obviously polished that very morning.
In her hands she carried a small neocom unit. She glanced about, noting Kador and Denak she gave the pair a warm smile, followed by a slight bow and a polite nod of the head.
Noting Metsar at the desk she approached tentatively, taking a knee before his desk, head bowed, neocom clutched to her side.
"Ashaltiasten" She says in a reverent tone. " As you have requested I have completed the medical forms. Godsgrace on you this day Paladin."
At the table Kador turns to greet the young woman.
"Ashaltiasten Satja. You look far better this morning than I had anticipated. After the Paladin has registered you files we have business elsewhere. I must look into some armour hardening units for the Armoured Track." |

Satja frowned at the new comer.
For one thing he was young, then their were the scars. Were they mementos of his humanity? Irreconcilable and unchanging or simply for show, his vanity written all over his face.
What irked her though was the look he gave her. Her skin crawled, the smile was recognisable as something between appreciation and disdain. Looking at him she thought he might have been Gallentean, that would have explained the look she supposed.
She glanced over to Kador, who had gone rigid. Had he seen that same look?
I supposed that's mildly flattering, she considered, her train of though broken by Kador's eerily polite tone.
"Aye welcome" He said, "...I suppose the first thing one would need to learn about the Amarr is that we appreciate manners... but I digress. We have a wonderful library dedicated to the preservation and education of Amarrian culture, run by our very own Templar Twelve.... he is very knowledgeable on the subject. He...."
She noted a slight twinge of Kador's dark eyebrows, perhaps annoyance. He never like the Gallente much, and perhaps this mans entrance had ticked him off.
She bowed low. Interjected, drawing the conversation to herself, cutting off a sharp remark she knew he would regret. She gestured to herself.
" Welcome to you. I am Satja. May I fetch you a drink?" She felt dirty saying those words to a non Amarrian, but somehow she figured it was worth it to avoid and incident.
At this Kador shook his head.
"Either way we are out to business" He commented brusquely. " Sir if you wish to discuss anything specifically, we may do it on the way to Demel's for I have business with his. To me Satja. I thank you Paladin Metsar, for accommodating Denak as well for your time."
And with that the pair exited the Emmisary into the halls. |

Behind him the door to the emissary open. Denak nods firmly, brushing over his suit a little while standing up. "Yes, I shouldn't hold you any longer, I appreciate your hospitality. On the way he came across Echo, gazing his numerous fashion scars to look tough, his stupid overconfident look on his face, and his clenching fist, all in one very brief glance. He barely acknowledged Echo's existence, simply walking past him and exiting the emissary without further words, except one quietly muttered to himself: "Weko." *smirking at denak's response* " I apologize if I seem to be compensating to you, but where im from, a firm posture is require to be taken seriously." Satja frowned at the new comer. For one thing he was young, then their were the scars. Were they mementos of his humanity? Irreconcilable and unchanging or simply for show, his vanity written all over his face. He scared her a little, for his youth coupled with the dark edge his scars gave him made him implacable, as if her were out of place even amongst the room of older men and immortals. Even as he was leaving the room he saw the Gallentean bow, and the irritation left his body. He had been disrespectful, and had shamed himself.
"This way if it please you" he says mid departure. "The libraries are this way as is the Cathedral, though I can do my best to educated you on the way."
He hoped the man had heard him, but did not stop to look, business was demanding that he visit Demel's offices in the next few hours.
