my second PC battle was like that for at least me and my entire sqd except for one guy that happens to be my roommate and was sitting not more than 5 feet away from me. he may have had a little lag here and there but nothing like what most of us experienced. 2 of our team got dced from it and the battle leader ended up getting a black screen for like 30 seconds after trying to call in a warbarge strike. I ended up having to go outside the main complex and find a corner and stare at the wall for more than half the match just so i could effectively issue orders to my squad. |

if it's worth anything, i also have a super old phatty PS3, i played skyrim on the Xbox so i can't comment there, but i DO get framerate problems like the OP.
it does seem to vary with terrain though. indoors is way worse than outdoors. maybe it has something to do with all the indoor areas being a "module" plugged into the map, whereas the outdoor areas are more likely just map terrain?
but hey, on the upside op... you got a scoreboard and a match breakdown. i've yet to get one... even once. |

My posts are always long, that is just how I conduct my business. I make them long by saying things like 'that is just how I conduct my business' for no reason.
I actually thought that my video was dropping frames when I watched it because I had about a billion Chrome tabs open, so it's not that I don't understand the difference between lag and performance issues, just general internet incompetence on my behalf.
Also, wow, it really wasn't dropping frames when I watched it. Weeeooooowwwwwwww. |

We have teams in multiple studios working on this right now, it is the number one priority for the people involved. Expect to see some more details about getting it fixed this week. I am genuinely curious as to what exacly is the cause of this. Devblog perhaps? I imagine server location plays a part. With corp battles there was a tendency for (globally) local corps to play each other, and the battles were so sparse that general 'not fit for purpose' issues like this might have flown under the radar. Now, with PC, your corp's real world region is irrelevant, so there will be many more cases of Euro teams facing off against US teams, and a good few where multi-national corps field whoever they have at the time, leading to players from potentially the whole globe all descending on the same regional server. In this situation, how can it choose an optimal server for everyone? Tritan is mostly US players and I'm in the UK, and the video reminds me of games I had back in Chromosome when I was dragged into a server that was a bad match for my location. No the issue shown in this video is not server related, network latency or packet loss manifests itself in different ways. This is very clearly a client performance issue and we are working on some changes to fix it. It is a client problem. Right now, the only way to fix the issue is to have everyone reset their PS3's before the battles starts, and to NOT jump into another instant battle after the reset, and before the PC battle start time. It has a success rating of 80% because it'll still happens even after the reset, but not as frequent.
Also, this lag seems to only happen on skim junction (from my experience at-least.) So have your guys look at that map. Last time there were complaints about the issue, there was something that was said about this particular map was a memory leak or something. There were never any notes that I saw that told us that the problem was actually fixed.

we have had some laggy battles that were bad but omg you guys must have been raging on comms. i feel sorry for the battle commander.
Edit after watching it to the end i understand while your pissed the lag is horrible i just wish it was a bit more constructive instead of a bash on ccp. yet i do understand your anger. please send this to our cpm.
also your not the only one eon is us cronos is eu. i'm sure both sides are have some horrible lag in this war. me myself have not only framerate issues i think... but it could have been lag hard to tell sometimes lol so a maybe to both i guess if i really had to think about it.

For those that have had issues with frame rate in PC can you comment here on how many people you were on voice comms with? Were you running a full team voice or even larger in a private chat channel?
Next time you see the really low frame rate, for science, try going into options and disabling voice to see if it recovers at all.
This is one of a couple of theories we are testing, your help in gathering data to test it out would be much appreciated. |

Is there away to clear your history or temporary files on your PS3 similar to what you do on your computer if your browser seems to be performing badly?

when my team and i ran into the frame rate problem in pc we were in a private room with a full team of 16 plus about 4 guys from eve in channel all on voice, but each sqd had everyone muted except the ppl in their sqd, the sqd leader had all other sqds muted except for the battle leader the other sqd leaders and the eve guys. We were running 3 five man sqds with the battle leader being an extra in one sqd. so at most the most ppl in voice anyone one person could hear was 11, their sqd, 2 other sqd leaders, the battle leader, and the 4 eve guys.
we have since changed our comms setup so that we have everyone muted except our sqd, the battle leader and the eve guys. It cut out 2 to 3 ppl for everyone except the battle leader but we still had the same frame rate issues in our 4th pc battle.
On a side note i personally dont have much frame rate problems except for on maps with the main complex in the center with tall buildings in them.
Hope this helps some |

Hey Pyrex a couple things I noticed during the battle.
You had by far the worst lag I have ever seen, at the 2:20 mark when you were jumping you actually froze in mid air, made me go wtf and then I killed you. Your teammates lag was visually not even close to what you had. Your guy was teleporting and freezing in place, where as your team mates seemed fine.
I used to have these issues back in the last build if I was online for around 2 1/2 hours or more. Now I reset my ps3 every 2 hours and I have never had the issue.
Before we fight again tomorrow at the same time make sure your team has reset their ps3, it is not fun when a team does bad because of lag. |

FWIW, I had the PS3 monitoring my corp chat, with a lot of people on it, for a couple of hours and my character was idle in the Merc Quarters. I went into a game and had 1 frame every two seconds. I was listening to the private chat channel all the while. The people on that channel were in a match of their own. Made it through my match, reset the PS3 and the problem completely disappeared.
I have never had that kind of bad frame rate before. It was an ambush pub match so not PC related. I have my preference set for the North American server and it was early evening East coast US on the 20th. |

I have this issue in general if the system is left on too long.. yes even with a ssd. It comes about like a memory leak, but preforms like its overheating, and I have a window fan on my ps3 and its cool to the touch.
also LOD sucks. you cant see objects from very far. the draw distance is too short so in turn you get shot by swarms or rail tanks that are invisible.. |

Been there, done that, lost a couple tanks to it(To be fair, I thought it had passed.. I was mistaken). This was occurring prior to the Uprising release, but I used to only experience it after the PS3 had been running dust for over 2-3 hours straight. The only way to clear it I've found is to totaly reset the box - waiting for a period of time (I've waited 30 mins in between matches to see if it went away) does/did nothing.
Remember to reset your consoles often, kiddies! Especially before entering a PC match!!
EDIT: To be useful, I have only ever experienced this Solo (I reset the box before each PC match) after long DUST sessions. Comms never seemed to enter in to the equation. In PC I've had comms cycled between Team, Squad, Corp, and user created channel. No difference in performance between them. But that's just me - your mileage may vary.
P.S. Pyrex, I ran you over last night in a LAV. Thank you for being in a pub match - it made my day :) |

Have taken part in 5 PC battles so far
Battle One
Massive frame rate issues, massive amounts of lag (rubberbanding, running on spot, etc) On the side I was on it was EU and NA players, the other side was a japanese corp. Mics set on squad with the squad leaders jumping back and forth on a private channel with eve players Did not reset PS3 prior to battle
Battle Two massive frame rate issues, server side latency (see hit detection) Our side was EU and NA players, their side was NA players Mics set to team, everyone muted but squad leaders and our respective squads Did reset PS3 prior to battle
Battle Three very minor frame rate issues, no latency both sides were NA players Mic set to squad, no jumping around on coms Been playing 3+ hours before hand, did not reset PS3 Only battle to have the end of game screen work
Battle Four massive frame rate issues, massive server side and client side latency both sides a mix of NA and EU players Mics set the same as battle two Reset PS3 prior to battle
Battle Five very little frame rate issues, massive server side latency both sides NA Mics set the same as battles two and four Reset PS3 prior to battle
Hope this helps |

Private channel with 20-25 people on coms, 30 or so in room. Is this related to the lag related issue when you have large chat rooms open and playing the game? It seems to me that all these open rooms are causing problems. |

Yes it is lame we have to buy new equipment just because of poor coding on CCP's part, but if you want to avoid the framerate problems, get a SSD drive and stick it in your PS3.
However I am curious to know if anybody with SSD drives are getting these framerate problems too. Cause maybe that solution doesn't work anymore (does for me, but I could just be lucky).
SSD and still get lag framerate. Helps with initial spawning, but still has some sort of memory leak, lag, or increasing ram usage that boggs me down from time to time. I don't know the technical problems, but it still happens to me. |

Not that I'm actually expecting you to look back at this thread again, but on the off chance you do.... I'm curious about something. Do your guys actively test this game with stock devkits, or do you use SSD's as well? If you did use SSD's, it would explain quite a lot here.
We use stock devkits all the time.
Since you've mentioned HDD, we did locate a devkit showing considerably worse performance compared to others of the same model, and HDD was confirmed to be the culprit.
We did a full format on the problematic HDD and that fixed it (quick format didn't work). |

Maybe you should talk to Sony guys in regard of this lag being induced by voice chat? Have noticed frame rate drop in other PS3 game (Little Big Planet 2) when voice chat is enabled... The lag looks differently there. No frame skipping. Everything just slooooows down...
If you use standard devkits do you use standard PSN services for voice chat/net transfers or your LAN and direct link to CCP servers? |

I've noticed in teamchat, with 16 guys talking I'll see a slight reduction in performance.
After playing for a few hours, I get bad Lag
On the map in this Video, I often get massive lag in and around the building when people drop uplinks. No uplinks, no lag. Though I can't say if uplinks are necessarily the culprit, it could just be circumstantial that every time I have massive lag on any map, is when there's a bunch of uplinks. |
