Well, Dust launches tomorrow (or even today, depending on where you live). What are your predictions on how things will go?
-How will gamer-sites (ign, etc.) review this build now that the clock has run out on CCP's hotfixes?
-How many new players will be joining us, and what will they think?
-How many players will actually get involved with Planetary Conquest, and how many will sit it out (like me )?
Discuss :) |

Judging by the Dev response i got on my Dropship topic, hopefully there will be needed adjustments to many of the concerns DS pilots have been facing forever now, such as WP not being earned, Cost reduction in the advanced ships again, etc, however i wouldn't be able to guess how much of that would be in this next update tomorrow, if any. I just hope they get the DS problem fixed fast. |

Things will go quietly and with little fanfare, we will see a small rise in player numbers but nothing massive. However the forums will be awash with complaint/positive feedback about the new content we're getting. I'd also expect a load of qq about no skill respec from people who don't stay up to date with the forums. Overall business as usual. |

As far as the game magazines, I'm not sure. EVE is a pretty well known game, especially how it's been built up for all these years. I don't expect Dust to be "torn apart" by them, but I do expect them to want CCP to make changes to Dust and will be optimistic about it's future.
Though that's not to say that there aren't d-bag critics out there that will probably copy/paste some QQ/Doomsayers rant and submit it to his editor. |

Lots of new players will get mad and say this game is horrible. And ccp should feel bad for making this game. Lol. I can already see it. There are so many people who say the same thing all around the web. |

I think dust has the ability to be one of the best games ever. I think it's far from there now and I think it wont be there upon launch. But maybe one day it will be. New players will come just out of curiosity but in the games current state I dont see much sucess. Usually I would be playing right now until it's time for me to go to work but instead im just laying here bored reading the forums hoping that tomorrow my heavy has more range or is a little faster |

I think most gaming websites will give it a fair review..
most will keep it positive.
Those reviews will then be torn apart in the comments section by bitter "Vets" who are on the forums more than they play the game.
Makes me sad :(
Apart from that dire note. I think the new weapons will be fun, all those mercs who think armour is useless (not me) will be ripped to shreds by the scrambler rifle then whine OP.
But most of all there will be bugs, glitches, imbalanced weapons etc ... but just remain calm remember it will always be a work in progress and carry on killing. |

Saying its released and out of beta is just words really. Tomorrow will bring another patch and more content.. but as far as it really matters... this game released when it became available for public download... i.e." open beta." |

Something recently I mentioned in a CaLogi thread, but I think it's applicable in this thread's context. Sorry in advance if it sounds harsh to s specific group of our community, but I don't pull my punches:
Cosgar wrote:M-E-T-A-G-A-M-E There isn't enough content implemented into the game yet to have a balanced meta game. Everything is intended to be the effective counter with specified advantages over the other like a big game of rock paper scissors. But there are some serious people with epeen issues that don't understand things like balance and want to be the absolute best at everything and cry nerf, even when it's against something that's supposed to be it's effective counter. (refer to Assault vs Heavy vs Scout vs Logistics) But, even at the game's infancy, CCP has willingly swung the nerf mjolnir and shattering balanced game mechanic after game mechanic because from our POV, they're catering to the lowest common denominator of our playerbase. (see HMG nerf and HAV ninja nerf) Once the scrambler rifle and flaylock get added to the fray tomorrow, all those CaLogi slayerbros are going to wish they didn't go for a tankier shield suit. They'll cry OP and nerf, but the truth of the matter is, it will be working as intended. This is going to be a delicate time in Dust 514 where the developers are going to have to let things play out and put an end to this nerf witch hunt once and for all. Outside of something that is game breaking on the level of the Viziam and light weapon sharpshooter, the nerf bat won't ever need to be swung and everything will be in our hands in how we fit our suits and vehicles to counter and exploit each others' weaknesses. This is a common thing for the MMORPG scene and the strictly FPS players are going to have to adapt or die... alot. After 5/14 there will be no more OP, or nerf. Dust 514 will be the sandbox it was intended to be and we'll be the ones kicking knocking eachothers' sand castles without adult supervision. When someone cries OP or nerf on these forms, the devs (and hopefully the smarter of us in the cummunity) will respond back with that old EVE Online saying: H-T-F-U!

As far as new players, kinda hard to say. This game tho in "Beta" has been out for the public before uprising. I'm sure tho it will grab those that have not played the beta, and want to find out what this game is about.

Right now there has only been crying from a few about OP this, nerf that, and this needs a buff, blah, blah, blah.
What CCP is going to turn grey over or lose sleep and hair over is when big name CORP's start getting on here because they are losing 80 million ISK at a shot over broken game mechanics.
When territory and Planets are on the line and and this game means something finally but CORP's are unable to defend or attack because the core mechanics of this game are still broke, well then look out baby.
I will not envy CCP's Devs for the next two weeks at all.
PC needs large Corps in order to succeed and if large Corps leave then PC fails. When PC fails then TAC AR 514 turns into just another space pew pew game that means nothing.
Good luck CCP I mean it, good luck.
Lets hope you all have it right.

In other words, sometimes using out-of-game information to affect one's in-game decisions. -Webster's Dictionary Sounds about right to me. In most PVP oriented MMORPGS, the meta game has to do with the FotM cycle where players find a popular game mechanic and seemingly exploit it until another part of the community find a way to counter the previous FotM to take the helm as the new one. It's a seemingly endless cycle that occurs in balanced games. |

Discuss :)
I suspect gamers sites to give it some above average , but mostly average or below average scores . Although I think they'll be a large influx of new players mostly because its free, but I think they will be rather harsh of this game. Some new players will let it slide because its free. |

Scrambler Rifle gets labeled OP with Plasma Cannon and Flaylock Pistol, players will write 100+ forums posts ranging from cool headed calculations to more raging this and this is OP. This goes on for a while until something is done and people find a new topic to write about.
Gaming sites will give Dust514 a Average rating but there will be shockers amongst them both for good and for bad. |

"adapt or die" and "harden the **** up" do not mean what you think they mean
it's generally the same as saying "eve is very complex, and has a high learning curve because there are lots of little things going on and lots of nuance, and people want to kill you just to stave off their own boredom, you're in this crazyhouse now so pull up yer britches"
it does not mean "THE GAME IS PERFECT AND HAS NO FLAWS STOP COMPLAINING"
there's lots of problems, better to listen and counter instead of just giving a blanket response that makes you look like an idiot who only discovered eve through an eveopedia dive and a few drake blob videos set to dubstep |

For a company having a long term approach like CCP it won't matter all that much to be honest...they've proven with EVE over and over and over again that they're willing to listen to the player base and the game continually improved. That's why after 8-9 years I'm still paying monthly fees to them. How many WoW players still play after 9 years? My guess it won't be anywhere near as many.
The one thing I like about CCP is that they LISTEN to the player base...as opposed to EA for example. Quite a feat for such a small company.
Either way, thanks for creating another fun and challenging game CCP...happy you're willing to expand the universe you created :)
PS: Don't listen to the whiners CCP, if anything we should all be happy some whining kiddies complaining about a free game will probably leave soon given their short attention spans ;) |

please, please do not tell them this. they will actually listen and get lazier than they already are CCP holds a pretty niche market on the PC, and are imfamous because of it.
on the ps3? or in shooters in general? just another drop in the pond unless they do something neat with it. the EVE integration is nice but if the game itself is poorly thought out, poorly balanced, and just a chore to play, what does that matter?

Bahahahaha. Sorry, I just read this post and can't believe you actually believe any of it.
CCP? Lazy? Uh huh, sure kid, keep telling yourself that.
CCP infamous? I mentioned the game "DUST 514" to a friend the other day, and his brother piped up "isn't that the game linked to Eve Online?" Eve is infamous for having a massive learning curve, not because it's fairly niche. A lot of people have looked at it, but don't have the time to commit. For example, said friend said he would have set up a sub, but he wants to actually have a life rather than be sucked into the game. This was after the 21 day trial.
Now, regarding DUST... You have never played a truly awful shooter such as Section 8, have you? That was a bad, bad game. Basic mechanics were truly awful... This game isn't "poorly thought out, poorly balanced, and just a chore to play". The first is disproven simply by how slowly they're taking things. They didn't rush development and release a product which would have appealed to the masses on paper, i.e. all planet types in the game already. As for poorly balanced, I think they're quite close to the mark. As for the last, that's merely subjective, so...
As a further remark on the balance issues, quite a lot of it will be that players are relatively unfamiliar with this kind of FPS/RPG. The huge variety of ways you can fit your dropsuit can basically mean that you can play for a year and not find the optimal fitting. |

CoD: Ghost is coming out in November. But when they leave, all the "Nerf X" threads where the OP doesn't understand concepts like balance, effective counter, and counter play leave with them. They are the overly vocal minority that holds back Dust 514's progress. Some will stay and wake up from their fantasy world of instant gratification spoon fed to them by the "modern FPS genre" and will learn to adapt. The ones who don't and continue to QQ will be dead weight that will eventually fade into obscurity. A new player's first experience of Dust 514 is as brutal as it is enlightening because it shows the player that you need more than fast reflexes. It raises the skill ceiling that most FPS gamers in this generation aren't used to and intimidates some, but others embrace it and step up their game to compensate. |

I await the dramatic calm before the storm of awesome that I hope for this game... but it will never come. That is implying an epic tide of accumulating threads of interest and change to hit at once. This we will not have. We will have the constant movement and improvement to the game. This is not a game of quick victories and easy success. The satisfaction is in its slow moving progression and spikes of action with each battle, but the shadow of defeat and death hang over every conquered horizon. Who knows when it will rear its head. I am looking forward to Titan Bombardment.
Good things in the future, but immediate success i do not see it. It is an acquired taste. I like it. This will be my game for a few years. |
