Something recently I mentioned in a CaLogi thread, but I think it's applicable in this thread's context. Sorry in advance if it sounds harsh to s specific group of our community, but I don't pull my punches:
Cosgar wrote:M-E-T-A-G-A-M-E There isn't enough content implemented into the game yet to have a balanced meta game. Everything is intended to be the effective counter with specified advantages over the other like a big game of rock paper scissors. But there are some serious people with epeen issues that don't understand things like balance and want to be the absolute best at everything and cry nerf, even when it's against something that's supposed to be it's effective counter. (refer to Assault vs Heavy vs Scout vs Logistics) But, even at the game's infancy, CCP has willingly swung the nerf mjolnir and shattering balanced game mechanic after game mechanic because from our POV, they're catering to the lowest common denominator of our playerbase. (see HMG nerf and HAV ninja nerf) Once the scrambler rifle and flaylock get added to the fray tomorrow, all those CaLogi slayerbros are going to wish they didn't go for a tankier shield suit. They'll cry OP and nerf, but the truth of the matter is, it will be working as intended. This is going to be a delicate time in Dust 514 where the developers are going to have to let things play out and put an end to this nerf witch hunt once and for all. Outside of something that is game breaking on the level of the Viziam and light weapon sharpshooter, the nerf bat won't ever need to be swung and everything will be in our hands in how we fit our suits and vehicles to counter and exploit each others' weaknesses. This is a common thing for the MMORPG scene and the strictly FPS players are going to have to adapt or die... alot. After 5/14 there will be no more OP, or nerf. Dust 514 will be the sandbox it was intended to be and we'll be the ones kicking knocking eachothers' sand castles without adult supervision. When someone cries OP or nerf on these forms, the devs (and hopefully the smarter of us in the cummunity) will respond back with that old EVE Online saying: H-T-F-U!

My hurricane was one of the first to get nerfed....did I cry on the forums..no I HTFU and adapted my fitting to compensate This is something mercs will need to get used to. A sandbox game like new eden will never be finished You're one mature person. A single person is cognitive and insightful to understand cause and effect. xAckie wrote:your text has nothing to do with metagame
Quote:Metagaming is a broad term usually used to define any strategy, action or method used in a game which transcends a prescribed ruleset, uses external factors to affect the game, or goes beyond the supposed limits or environment set by the game. In other words, sometimes using out-of-game information to affect one's in-game decisions. -Webster's Dictionary Sounds about right to me. In most PVP oriented MMORPGS, the meta game has to do with the FotM cycle where players find a popular game mechanic and seemingly exploit it until another part of the community find a way to counter the previous FotM to take the helm as the new one. It's a seemingly endless cycle that occurs in balanced games. |

Iron Wolf Saber wrote:I am beginning to hate the mis-use of metagaming. It's better than the nerf war meta game that's been raging on these forums for the past 2 years. Remember that thread where the closed betas wanted something to commemorate their efforts? They're the reason why Dust is so screwed up. |

This game is NOT ready for launch. Focus on actual GAMEPLAY, then all the in depth stuff. Fun Gameplay > Everything else. But the game is fun... except for everyone running around with CaLogi going ham, heavies getting killed by HMGs, and every weapon that's not an AR being nerfed to novelty... but it's still... fun? |

PS: Don't listen to the whiners CCP, if anything we should all be happy some whining kiddies complaining about a free game will probably leave soon given their short attention spans ;)
please, please do not tell them this. they will actually listen and get lazier than they already are CCP holds a pretty niche market on the PC, and are imfamous because of it. on the ps3? or in shooters in general? just another drop in the pond unless they do something neat with it. the EVE integration is nice but if the game itself is poorly thought out, poorly balanced, and just a chore to play, what does that matter? the WORST THING ccp can be right now is complacent There's nothing we can do to stop them. CoD: Ghost is coming out in November. But when they leave, all the "Nerf X" threads where the OP doesn't understand concepts like balance, effective counter, and counter play leave with them. They are the overly vocal minority that holds back Dust 514's progress. Some will stay and wake up from their fantasy world of instant gratification spoon fed to them by the "modern FPS genre" and will learn to adapt. The ones who don't and continue to QQ will be dead weight that will eventually fade into obscurity. A new player's first experience of Dust 514 is as brutal as it is enlightening because it shows the player that you need more than fast reflexes. It raises the skill ceiling that most FPS gamers in this generation aren't used to and intimidates some, but others embrace it and step up their game to compensate. |
