I'm not sure how an unannounced, single day event where players "in the know" with the ability to free up 10-15 hours for grinding can get a three week advantage could possibly be considered anything resembling "fair".

No one cares about you. Let me repeat that NO ONE CARES ABOUT YOU.
This was designed to make new players at a specific time between advertisement pushes happy so CCP can stay in business. Fair has nothing, nor should it have anything, to do with being fair.
It was a good choice by CCP...now be happy with the 7 million SP you already have and sit down. |

That's pretty dark. What about Jesus and Buddah? (probably my ma, too)
Also, I'm not entirely sure we are talking about the same thing. I have absolutely no issues with the main triple XP event, and am currently enjoying the extra 1.8ish million SP I earned from the whole ordeal. It's these weird remainder days that CCP keeps (intentionally?) sneaking in that I have a problem with. Doesn't it make more sense to reset the SP cap and end the event at the same time? |

I guess but who cares. SP is only really beneficial to new players. Old players get very small return on it after filling up the skills of their main role.
So ultimately this brings newer players closer up with the older players in terms of gear/skill point abilities.
Plus this is only really a symptom of ccp's choice to put too much value on SP rather then in actual skill in the current configuration of the game. If it was triple WP (with no corresponding bonus to SP) or triple ISk, or triple scavenge no one would care.
You don't see many complaints about the human endurance event do you? Yet human endurance event benefits those no life players as well.
CCP made a mistake with SP in general....it looks to me they have started to fix that mistake by closing the gap between talented new players and no talent old players who are sitting on a bunch of SP.
The various nerfs and buffs coming to weapons and gear and skill tree seem to echo this trend. |

wait wut?
https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=70077 announced week long event to run in conjunction with fanfest...
the only thing unclear/unannounced about it was CCP's use of the term "through" and not following through with its actual meaning.

Was there some reason? Someone it was meant to benefit that you were grateful to? Was it to get boosters burning a bit longer?
I'm half convinced they are testing AFK detection methods. The Endurance Event was asking for AFKers. The 3x SP event was asking for it even harder. The 1 day extra of it actually got a mini freaking event going of AFKers. Were they looking to increase the test pool for when the released their AFK preventatives?
The plot thickens... |

agreed, I specifically woke up this morning expecting 3x SP only to find that it was not happening... Sure I'm a little disappointed and I set aside the whole day to grind a couple of toons, but, it is what it is...
Now I'll just take the time to relax with my corpies and run battles at a less hectic pace using my newly bumped up skills...

Yeah, once again CCP fails (is anybody surprised though?)
Love their wording of "THROUGH Thursday", which really meant "it stops on Thursday, and does not go through it at all".
Since I could not 24/7 play Dust all day Wednesday, I lost out on almost 400K SP.
Based on CCP's fail wording, I was expecting to get another day. Yet, as usual, they screwed many of their players due to garbage and incomplete communication skills.

You guys do know that, May 1 is a globally celebrated non-working holiday (Labor Day). A reason the 3x sp Holocon event made it an extra day after weekly cap reset to thursday downtime is also partly because of this.
Probably, no one was at work to turn off the 3x sp till thursday.
Also, it doesn't take a genius to figure out they meant 'up to downtime Thursday' as the ending of Holocon event.

Fine. "Unannounced" was a poor linguistic choice. Though it's not like they ever said "BTW, the cap resets before the event ends, so if you cap out again between those times you can get another three weeks worth of SP."
Now before the accusations of 'butthurt because you missed it' start flying, let me add that I did not miss it. I am a wee bit butthurt over having to grind for 10 hours, but obviously I thought it was worth it. (Wouldn't you work a 24 hour shift at your job in a heartbeat if they were going to pay you three weeks wages and then give you the rest of the week off?)
I just wish, like you guys, that CCP would be completely straightforward with how their events are going to work. I realize that these remainder days are probably in their to accommodate primetime downtime plagued Australia, but I'm assuming that the Aussies are already adept at navigating the weekly cap. |

Cap was temporarily increased to be able to earn the tripled amount of total skill points as well. |

Oh look downtime was at 11:00 - 12:00 GMT on Thursday. Which for some areas like Australia +10GMT and Asia +8GMT was at 9PM and 7PM respectively, probably qualifying the use of the word 'through'.

The downtime ended just before midnight and even WE didn't see them run ALL THE WAY "through" Thursday.
But the game runs on EVE time, which is GMT, and "through" still means "through" so they still didn't stick to the exact wording they used.
Of course, unlike the Merc Pack issue, their choice of phrasing isn't legally-binding here, so it's not as big a deal. |

Got back from FanFest on Monday evening, made cap (whatever it was) 8 mins before downtime on Wednesday haha I think I did somewhere in the league of 850K. Then from Wednesday DT to Thursday DT, I got about 700K. 1.4 million-ish SP in 4 days was an epic way to wind down from FF. :D I do feel sorry for those who couldn't takefull advantage of it, but you are probably part of the majority. I dare say only a small fraction of DUST 514 gamers fully maximised this event. |

I will play the devil's advocate. CCP should have announced this at least a week before the event, I can understand that they don't celebrate 4th of July but some do. I say move it a week later than planned. |
