Lost is lost, the net result is the same so don't play semantics. BTW I'm not saying they should fix this event, or toss anyone they screwed a bone.
I'm just hoping to demonstrate that with a few extra digits or an extra sentence all things like this can be completely avoided. So why not?
When dates and timing are important people generally make them very clear. The military does not say 'we're going to attack at 12:00 next Friday' Do they mean this friday coming, or the one after that? AM or PM?
A company serving to international customers with a timed event could at least take the extra three seconds to say "BTW, this is GMT, so don't be confused by the fact that this will result in a weird additional schedule. Like having one day to reach weekly SP cap. Then second day to reach weekly SP cap.
IMO they needed to either be more concise OR normalize their downtime/reset scheduled to take into account this ill-synchronized event they laid over-top of it.
Ohhhh, is see. You-¦re one of those at the Music Industry that consider that a Download = Loss/Theft Like when a costumer goes to your store, and "Consumes" the music at the elevator, doesn-¦t buy anything, and istead of making a "Profit" you are at a "Loss". Sure sure, that-¦s it. Ask for reinbursment from CCP, you clearly started today with less-than-you-could-have-earned-if-you-had-played-yesterday, and this is probably a server bug. All times are GMT. In my country for example, we don-¦t use am or pm, we use 24h. And the reference will always be downtime. How am i going to say "Friday" with so many timming zones? - You haven-¦t lost anything - GMT - Downtime
Nope, not server bug. A mistake in their planning and execution of the event. Either by lack of forethought or (in my opinion) just a bad decision.
Also it's nothing like that music example. It is what it is. A number of people planned flexible events around a certain phrase. Apparently they moved around their time incorrectly and lost out on something they planned for and would have had otherwise. Some people had No time to do it. And despite MMO's being 'unfair' it is a little tilted more towards crazy that their grind-fest operated in this way as it has.

You. You seem so annoyed by this one thing that very few of us even think about let alone care about it. This is not something to fret over anyways. I know you're irritated by this, but posting a thread about it is hardly going to help. Besides, judging from the replies posted here on your thread, there are not that many of us who care and the ones who do care don't seem that bothered by it.
Of course, this doesn't mean that the issue is non-existent. It's an issue of communication from CCP regardless of how small and I do believe it needs to be addressed, but this is something that I don't believe needs a thread for. You could always communicate privately to CCP at [email protected] and voice your concerns there.
Oh, just as a minor tidbit, I hardly even try to reach the weekly SP cap at all. In fact, out of the entire time that I have been playing the Chromosome build since late last year, I have only capped out 2 times. I think 3 but I'm not sure about that. Even I'm not bother by this at all.
You should have seen the number of people complaining about players taking advantage of the 1 day in which CCP changed the system from daily cap to weekly cap which resulted in a handful of smart players gaining a lot of SP in a single 24hour period. People thought this was unfair but CCP stated there is no need to punish players who just so happen to be more attentive than others. I'm not sure if this case is related at all to your thread, but I just wanted to say it. |

If it needs to be pointed out, the difference in my position, than the opinion of some music industrials:
The difference is nobody asked to listen to music in the elevator and nobody wanted it. If some guy pays for a coffee and hands it to me free, no company lost any money and I wasn't going to get coffee anyways.
As far as downloading songs. If you place two items on a shelf, identical except one is priced 50% less, what do you think people will get?
Sure everyone will buy the less expensive thing, but some New people who otherwise would never have gotten the full priced item may now be interested in the half off item.
Likewise when something is technically available to everyone free, people who otherwise wouldn't have even bought the songs now figure "what the hell, it'll take 2 minutes, why not".
If a particular person was interested in buying a new album but then find's it on a turret and downloads it anyways then yes, obviously the company lost money to pirating. Just like shop lifting.
Silly off topic but when you bring slander like that into a conversation it needs sorted out. This is nothing like what I was saying and I'm sure you can see that. |

If this is something meant to be picked up on by experience then again it shafts the new players.
Because I haven't been in a corp battle or seen their times. And forum posts? What do you mean? The time that Dev's make posts? It's an internet forum they could be posting from their phones in the middle of the night what difference does that make?
What information is somebody supposed to have gleaned from the forum, especially, if they don't even read the forums but go by blogs posted by CCP? So any new players unfamiliar with "standard CCP practice" are SOL.
Brilliant way to pull in and retain new players for their blossoming new game. |

Not quite like that.
The metaphor was simply to say that you can-¦t say you got negatively impacted by the events, only that you remained neutral.
Not being positive is not the same as being negative.
If you pay for a subscription of 5 coffes per month, and you drink 4, one it-¦s not "lost" is simply not consumed. If you pay for a subscription of 5 coffes per month, you wnt to drink 5, and they only give you 4, THEN you-¦re at loss.

Dear players,
From Wednesday April 24th through Thursday May 2nd we will be holding an event in celebration of Fanfest 2013. The name of the event is called the Mercenary Holocon and during the event period you will be eligible to receive 3X Skill Points for every battle you fight in game!
Le-¦ts go by excluision.
They said April 24th through Thursday May 2nd. Today right now is still May 2nd but it-¦s not valid anymore. Why?
How to handle different time zones? How to handle places where it-¦s friday and thursday at the same time? What-¦s the lowest common denominator ?
Downtime.
Regarding CCP-¦s writing, yes, they can improve a lot and sometimes they become quite ambiguos, but this time specifically i don-¦t see much margin for error. |

Alright then whether people lost SP or an opportunity for SP they did lose something. Since technically CCP does not "give" SP to anyone, then even those in the positive here did not gain something. So nothing was gained, or lost, except opportunities. I'm still only saying that window for opportunity was very small, erratic, and seemed not to consider a few important variables.
But most importantly being explicit about that window does not take any effort or time, and could have been done to prevent may people from shifting around weekly events to accidentally and completely miss out on the Opportunity they provided players.

You just nailed it though. You injected the word "downtime". They never stated "Downtime". It was implied and interpreted by those with experience from previous events.
That shouldn't be a prerequisite for understanding their posts. And lets say they even stated "At downtime". Its entirely possible that some players, especially newer may have no experience to know when that down time is. Although they could then have searched for that information it still could have simple said "Event ends, AT downtime, AT 3:00 AM, PDT" or whatever time it is there. |

What's up with that is in this thread, you will find mostly players who feel threatened by any other player catching up with their SP levels. They' don't want people to understand the time-frames for events or be compensated (Which I never asked for).
Because basically, they're hypocrites. There are players who reached cap each day in a row and don't want other people to do the same. So they say things like "It's only a game, U MAD BRO!?" when really, it's only them who would get mad over a game for missing out on some SP. Or not being so far up the top of the SP maxxers foodchain.

The time frame was poorly communicated. Had they said "until downtime on Thursday May 2nd" there would have been far less confusion.
The timezone is further complicated by the precedence set with the Human Endurance Event, since the rewards for that were based on matches played during your local time zone (not GMT). There was some player confusion for players there as well.
I agree that ultimately it is not a big deal, but asking CCP to be more clear in defining event terms in the future isn't unreasonable. |

That's the thing about CCP and us (the players) as well. When CCP posts things, they assume that we already know certain things such as downtime. This is something they have posted long ago since spring of last year when they finally allowed players to play on every day of the week rather than from Thursday to Sunday. They posted the downtime schedules and everything and that was a long time ago.
By the way, downtime is usually around 12:00 (noon) UTC or around 7-8:00am EST for us Americans. This is the same downtime that Eve Online players have adapted to.
Because this system has been around for about 10 years and a large number of Dust players happen to be Eve players as well and with all the constant communicating you and I are doing on a daily basis, it should be no surprise that CCP expects us to know simple things like this already. |

Thanks. It's no surprise. It's just an inexplicable move in the context of them trying to pull in a new player base (console/FPS) for a new game (Dust) and thinking that their decades old modus operandi is appropriate.
This thread can die but I'd love for a CPM to bring some awareness to CCP, since this appears to be a problem for them to consider now. |

Remember, CCP is not like other game developers. They are not obligated to follow certain standard set by big-name companies like BioWare, Infinity Ward, Bungie, 343 Industries, Epic Games, etc. They follow their own standards which practically appears to be alien to those consumers who have grown use to the normal clock work style of gaming.
This is a little off topic but let me tell you something.
I did a report for one of my old business management classes on Eve Online and its Council of Stellar Management (CSM). After taking 10-15 minutes to explain to the audience of the nature of how the economy in the game works and how players practically operate like real-world corporations and have an elected voice via the CSM and organize on a massive scale never seen before in an MMO, one of the members of the audience spoke up to me and said:
"That's... that's crazy. You can't just give the players so much power over how your [real-world] company does its business. Why give them so much power?"
At that moment, I realized that some people out there are just not use to the concept that CCP is operating under. Some players have gotten so use to the usual $60 release cycles and standard business models that anytime a company comes out of the wood work and challenges that standard model, suddenly everyone is like "WOAH?!!??! WTF!!!!!??" |

It's an internet forum they could be posting from their phones in the middle of the night what difference does that make? Look at the top of this post. See how it says it's 19:41? Yeah, note how it's probably not 7:41 PM wherever you are.

Don't these guys already have a ton of SP?
After hitting 5s in the main skills of his class/role SP has diminishing returns...(hell every level has diminishing returns to be honest) sure now you have a main role and half way there for a secondary role you can shift into to.
Seriously a guy who had 7 million sp then got 600,000 more SP is not benefited all that much.
Someone like me who went from 2 million to 2.6 million got a huge buff.
The people who benefited the most are the players who just joined the game. And that was who the event was meant to benefit.
Great timing on CCP part by the way. It filled a good gap between their ad campaign of two or three months ago and their new campaign for and after the release. It kept those relatively new players hooked until uprising. |

Which needed to be said in the first place, and apparently never was. Anywhere. Try again.
Go to their announcement section. All hours posted there are in GMT unless stated otherwise. |

Asking CCP to clarify anything in general is like trying to nail egg yolks to a tree. They always say they want/have good communication with the fans but honestly, there is a blatant lack of it which can be easily solved by idk.... elaborating more in dev posts?
I can name a few things which need better communication. Like all the ninja nerfs and patches/fixes.... kinda hard to beta test when you have no idea what the **** has been changed. |

I find it also irritating that this means CCP gave players one single day to reach full SP cap, TWICE IN A ROW!? So... If someone was either busy early in the week (Or planned around getting 3x SP through Thursday like they told us) that person is potentially screwed out of like 1.2 million SP or something.
Which is another reason most of us thought the event would run "Through" Thursday. Because it would be ludicrous to have two consecutive days of expecting players to be able to reach two week's worth of SP cap. One of which being 3x as high as the other.
wtf?
So who does this event benefit. The neck beard elite who have no jobs, no finals, no commitments on a Tuesday and Wednesday? Leaving other customers behind in the dust, This was NOT a good move CCP.
This was bad for the community and bad for the game. Honestly just tell me, did you really think this through?
1.) The 3x SP event was announced several times very clearly, and I would have thought it was assumed that it was ending yesterday.
2.) The 3x SP event does not increase the amount of time it takes to gain the SP in question. Your cap is still about 200,000 SP, Boosters (and this event) just increase the amount on top of what you would normally make unboosted.
3.) Its as simple as this, you had one whole week to to gain the triple SP for a weeks worth of SP, You had one additional day to get as much as you could. Do jobless people benefit from the extra day? sure I guess, but what does it matter to you? how many people actually hit there cap yesterday? I know I didn't. You just need to chill out dude, you missed out on some SP? so what, who cares? you'll make it eventually if you play the game, don't get mad at some people because they have a few million more SP then you do. I have 10,000,000 SP right now and im not angry at the 1 out of 10 guy who has 1.2 million, so really what im trying to say is harden up, theres no need to make a thread that is essentially the same as crying over spilled milk. |

Even though I saw it coming this time and took full advantage, these "week in a day" pseudo-events are deeply unfair and should not be allowed to happen again. |

I could quite well say the same of you sir: through /THro-Po/ Preposition Moving in one side and out of the other side of (an opening, channel, or location): "stepping through the doorway". Adjective (of a means of public transportation or a ticket) Continuing or valid to the final destination: "a through train from Boston". Synonyms preposition. by - thru - over - for - via - per - in - on - out of adjective. thru - direct - nonstop - straight
So when CCP says "through" the 2nd, people with an educational level above 1st grade rightly think "inclusive of" or "until the end of"
Next time you're going to beat someone down for making a proper reading of a sentence, please get your facts straight first and keep in mind that most Dust players have no prior experience with CCP in any manner.

Unfair for whom?
Those that have spare time and are short on money are quite happy with them. |
