Note: CCP Reply on Post #69
I have seen some members of corp go though these types of situations and Im hoping to show a little understanding of what you maybe going though.
A lot of the older Corps in DUST 514 are facing Corp burn out. This game just currently does not have the mechanics in place to allow corps to lead properly and having only the role GÇ£DirectorGÇ¥ is far too much power to give someone if you want them to do just one task(like recruiter).
So whatGÇÖs happening?
Well first off People in RL join a business to get PAID. Well we cannot pay our Mercs properly and we seem to be more of a charity currently with our members paying us with GÇ£DonationsGÇ¥. A PAID Merc is a Happy Merc.
Now if you canGÇÖt have money then whatGÇÖs the next best thing? POWER!
Players want to have reasonabilityGÇÖs, to feel apart and to gain recognition for their work, but as stated above we canGÇÖt really do this without taking a huge risk in trust. This makes players unhappy in their Corps when they want to move up the ladder. In our case itGÇÖs just a stepping stool. Those that are give a GÇ£saidGÇ¥ position with no abilities is most of the time looked over by other members and this causes many arguments within a Corp. This brings the last point.
Why is there a lack of Communication from leadership? Because No other Communication tools are in place.
We have been given Corp forums here on dust514.com (If you didnGÇÖt know then go here) but not all our members go look at forums on a daily bases. So we need Corp mail and bulletins in place. Otherwise Tommy does not know that Jimmy was promoted and so Tommy tell Jimmy to **** himself when heGÇÖs told to take Alpha. This falls on Tommy for not reading the forums and so he blames his leadership for not telling him to listen to Jimmy in the first place.
We as Corp Leaders are being blamed by our members that we are not doing our jobs because we are trying to Play the MMO part of DUST but are only given pure FPS Mechanics.
This is all you can do in DUST:
Pub Match and grind SP & ISK
Play a Corp Match and do a coin flip for ISK
You really donGÇÖt need leadership to tell you to do these things, but we are all in corps for what is to come and it seems we are becoming board with the facts that it is not here. I Know CCP your working on it, but we need it fast.
But hey, maybe itGÇÖs CCP plan to get us all pissed or starved so we start to eat one another. What greater conflict driver then that?

Damn good post, Shad. Ha-ha. I never realised this, but I am not getting paid. Oh boy. I kidd, but still very good posting, Shad. I'm not that high up the food chain in our corporation, and I honestly do not mind, but I cannot wait to see CCP even implement some of the missing mechanics. Though I concur that all we [every corporation] are doing is simply grinding away with no oil to lubricate the gears. Eventually we'll be nothing, but burned out nubs. Sad, but true. Even the most hardcore of us will eventually sucumb to this all too.
Hopefully though we'll see some coming improvements to Dust514 in the near future with the next build. |

I don't see how it's hard to communicate when you have two forums and more then 20 people in total active on both letting the corp in game know what's going on. If members feel neglected it's not CCP's fault. It's leaders for not giving out the information properly to be distributed. Or else you kill the point of PAYING FOR ENJIN.

Somewhat true. I do wish we had someone posting up a sort of bulletin of events on what happened daily. Something "general". So that I agree to, Sota. Still all I want to know is when do I get paid? Ha-ha-ha-ha.

BULLETIN:
Today Members logged on to DUST and Grinded up SP. Then had to eat dinner and go to bed.
More of this at 11.
I Kid, but we don't have much to say Dust wise. A once a week thing would be cool though and we are starting Weekly meeting now to help with word of mouth communication |

Well first off not trying to start an argument; I just meant in "general." By which I meant of most of what happened combined. From either side. I'm not a capsuleer, or in the EVE side like some of our members, but it would be cool to know what is happening at times. I get what you are saying though, and that point is not lost to me, Shad. Not at all. I fully understand that like you said Dust514 is lacking in the whole things to do department. |

Yeah I'm honestly bored of doing the same thing over and over again. 50 million ISK, so what I can't do anything with it I'd like to burn through that. Sp grinding? Yawn give me an objective or a sense of accomplishment. This senseless repetition reminds me of my dark days in Battlefield 3. |

Perhaps try and get community events and shows going to add more fun to the game like the ROFL leadership has done.

Part of being a strong CEO is understanding how to work within limitations, even very constrictive one. Provide a reason for your members to stay active and be a part of the group. If players are getting burned out on the game as you say I would expect all Corporations to see declining numbers.
Players will notice the corporations that are burning brightly even if there are issues with the game, naturally they will be drawn to the ones that provide extra fun and content, and a reason for them to be a member other than just repping a name.
A bad workman always blames his tools, in this case I agree the tools are a bit flawed. However you should be looking how to best use the flawed tools instead of blaming problems on them since there is nothing you can do to fix them at the moment. |

I will say this. We get a lot of "this is just beta" when these type of points are raised.
I've probably participated in well over 20 betas on different online games over the years. Basically what you see in open beta is close to the "finished" product (albeit no online game is really ever a finished product until it closes its doors). So it does concern me that at this stage we've seen probably less than 5% of what the game was promised to be.

People have been creative and doing great things with Chromosome build and yet OP thinks he needs more tools to be creative. He just tosses all the blame to CCP while not thinking outside of the box. "Burnout" has always been there with each build, but you can't hurry the development process of a game that is doing something that has never been done before in the industry.
And I think that only thins FPS community does those kind of creative things. When did you experience event in COD or BF3 for RP reasons? Story? What? Excuse me?
Think about it. Be creative. Expand your mind and don't think "well my toy is now old and I can't do anything with it and I'm going to throw it away now". |

I also don't care for these trivial Tournaments or whatever people keep posting up on the forums.
Those don't mean anything to me besides people just wanting bragging rights. Like I said before, if I wanted that I would have stayed in battlefield or CoD.
I'm not a person of bragging rights or any of that self righteous rubble.
I just need an objective, a real one, not these meaningless activities.

I come from a clan that existed for 2 years without an active game.
Good clans and corps exist because they create a sustainable online community, much like a game itself.
The fact that you're having issues a paltry year after the Beta launched tells me that you guys don't have your **** together and you're doing it for all the wrong reasons.
My advice? Put mercs before ISK. It works out better in the long run. Bottom line is this: Mercs can make money anywhere, the question that as to be answered, is why would they want to make it with you?
Right now every post I see from Zion is a walking cluster****, whining about **** no one cares about or trying to increase your "board rep". Why would anyone want to be involved with that?

It's not the one guy getting kicked. It's the lack of discipline in your ranks and the fact that you (the CEO) feel the need to come in public and whine. I'm guessing you don't play Eve, or if you do, you've never been a part of the metagame.
Once the cracks show in the armor, the fail cascade starts to look inevitable, whether you have 300 members or 3000. Just ask yourself, "What about BoB?" |

To be fair I didn't think Zion was in bad shape at all until you came out and said you are going through a Corporate burn out. I think that is what people are talking about, not Sota Pop.
I also agree 100% with your MMO statement. Anyone who is here and is more interested in the MMO aspect of it has no reason to be playing yet, and that's a little bit of a shame.
Also fair point to the tourny #. If they can handle 32 players on all the pub matches just fine it seems really strange they have yet to knock up the Corp matches over 16. |
