I am in complete agreement with this entire thread. The guns sound like automatic tranquilizer rifles. Honestly I had to read info just to make sure they didn't shoot syringes.
The shotguns sound like the noise those rings made on Tron when they bounced off something. |

I think the main problem with the gunsounds is that theyre half and half. yknow what i mean like half futuristic modern day gun sound. the two just dont really blend well. i say if the gun dosent shoot bullets dont make it sound like bullets at all. when they do shoot metal like minmatar make it sound as gritty and mean as possible. but like the galente shotgun? thats what plasma is supposed to sound like? ka chang! i want a to hear a big juicey zbLAATTb i want to hear the armor burning away every time i shoot it. |

Later this week we're content streaming a lot of new sounds, affecting everything from the music to the explosions to the firing sounds of many different weapons. These changes are a big step to finishing the sound and setting the mood we want.
I'm honestly quite curious if this ever happened. |

The LAR is one sound that we've constantly iterated on since it's the bread and butter of the dust battlefield. We've gone through a ton of versions to find the right fit for the LAR, and the new version coming in this week (along with all the sweeping changes in overall sound) takes into account what you guys have been talking about here.
Thanks for all the comments!

I don't care about the other weapons but for the love of god leave the shotgun alone. I love rekindling nerd PTSD with the dodge ball smack sound. Hi CCP Earworm, I find in general the soundlevels in this game to be louder than most games. Its not apparent that its an issue in most soundsystems, but for people with a more "sensetive" setup seem to have issues with distorting. It starts with the ccp intro and goes from there to the rest of the game. There should be no need for anyone to turn down the volume, when your changing from another game/movie to Dust on the ps3. I'm looking forward to checking out the new sounds n such.
Kind Regards XC |

Yes, when you write a post about something that is off, you are supposed to suggest improvements. That is how things work here. If you give no input on how to improve the issue you don't like, it will 99 times out of 100 stay the same. When missiles were facepounding everyone, we all came up with MANY ideas to fix them. CCP overdid it by using several ideas together, but it still got fixed. Sort of.
Point is, if you contribute nothing you get nothing in return. And hurling whiny complaints doesn't count as contributing.
As for the topic at hand, the sounds are fine, could use some fine tuning but are otherwise unimportant and good enough for now considering the multitude of other game issues that actually make it hard to play the game (i.e. lag outs, disconnects, not getting into matches, etc) |

You'll notice we got a direct response for the developer noting the all the sounds are getting a drastic overhaul. Just bc you type 8 paragraphs doesn't make you less wrong FYI . We clearly described the problems with the sounds from an operations perspective and not from the engineers perspective. And rightly so, we don't get payed and we are not professional sound designers. The sounds were described and critiques were given. We can't onomatopoeia this crap any more than we already did.

Ahem. Please note that the Dev never commented until the rest of the community steered the thread onto a proper course. Also please note that the community were the ones who got the OP started on actually discussing improvements. The original post in this thread was nothing but complaints without an iota of constructive input. That is all

Your original post had nothing to do with improving the game, just whining about how it's being done wrong. Anyway, as for my view of how there are other more important things to deal with right now, I don't see how anyone can disagree that getting server stability is more important than the sound my gun is making. But to each his own. |

Stole this from my bullet list.
Sound
- Friendly LAVs can be heard much further way than the silent and deadly hostile LAVs.
- Full auto weapons continue to produce sound after their operators are killed.
- Full auto weapon noises generated by downed player that persist though death are extremely loud.
- RDV exit noise is too similar to the entry noise.
- Sniper Railgun sound may sound a bit cooler if the high end of the 'bark' was delayed based on distance of hit object.
- Mass Driver doesn't have the hollow bang tube sound or the high brass sound that most typical grenade launchers have when hammering the charge. The 'thoump' can remain for the shell exiting.
- Missiles and Rockets still don't sound like such missing the roar of the engines igniting, needs to sound more like the swarm launcher.
- More battle music please.
- Separate victory and defeated music.
- Some tunes for hanging out in the mercenary quaters.
- Some noises ignore the sound bar setting.
- Climbing ladders sound like walking still instead of having a new noise set.
- At apparent notice there only seems to be two walked on materials, dirt and metal, needs to expand to sand, soft dirt, hard dirt, concrete, metal and more.
- War room has several spots where noises and announcements are louder and other places mere feet away where its quieter.
- Plasma Shotgun missing hit effect noise, off tone shooting noise for plasma weapon (sounds like a spring loaded cannon instead)
- HMG has underwhelming hit effect on object noise.
- Plasma Rifle has underwhelming hit and firing effect noise, closer but not there yet.
- Sniper Rifle has underwhelming travel effect noise and non shooter noise does not match the shooter's noise
- Sometimes Athena lags on her accouterments during combat.
My hope is the update fires majority of this list. |

I don't consider myself anything. You seem to be implying that. Personally, I think Dust is an awful, awful game that is probably beyond saving (on this hardware anyway). I'd like to see it match it's vision but CCP don't appear to be able to nail the very basics.
It was your good self who was throwing out "forumtard" in your overly defensive opening post. If you are confused, try reading again. I'm not here to help you comprehend anything. You seem to be quite the know it all already. Maybe you can muse on all this while you talk to your pillow? Who gives a ****, really?
Whether you think the thread would gone anywhere or not is irrelevant. It went somewhere and it appears that CCP had been working on the sound before I posted it. |

Sniper rifle noise is different for shooter and non shooter because both are hearing the rifle from a different perspective. The shooter is closer to the rifle than the non shooter, therefore the sound will be different. Ever recorded your own voice and listened to it? Sounds nothing like you right? That's because you are closer to the sorce than people listening to you speak, you sound different to other people because they are listening from a different perspective. Same thing applies to the weapon sounds.
