I was thinking back on all of the events that have occurred in our history with this beta. Every time there is a wipe, we have been moving on to a whole new build, a whole new world. We have now gone from one server to the next, with no change in build. We already have fought through our kinks and strategies involving our character progression. We know what we want and how were going to go about attaining it. When the 22nd or whenever we hit open beta arrives, the noobzors will arrive to find the Vets armed to the teeth and ready for their free moneyz and SP. I envision the arrival of the Open Beta to be the same as the video you see when you turn on the game: Decked out heavies with lazors, HMGs, and Duvolles, versus the hundreds of Caldari Assault suits, smashing themselves against our walls as we simply stand there and watch the glorious greenhorn slaughter. |

This is exactly what i fear they will hit the wall of vets and say **** this and give up on DUST and not only that would probably spread the word to others of the same mentality, some will probably stick to it but very few will have patience and a want to be effectivly beaten repeatedly. When DUST goes live it NEEDS a Sp wipe, and the sp system needs to be made viable for people who A: dont play every day(roll over is a fix) and B: people who start a month or 2 into developpment(a DUST wide roll over would make it possible but not easy to catch up) |

If you guys even remotely like dust 514, stop hoping that battle field, modern warfare, halo player base fans won't like this game. You think this game will stay afloat with a hard core player base of 1,000? This game needs a good population if it wants to thrive.

I don't know how many people there are now, but I can expect a lot of people coming into it to check it out. Lot people tend to flawk to free FPS games specially from well known companies and its on ps3... I mean look at Halo, Dust has some halo feeling to it. In my opinion better than Halo and its free with micro transition... And CCP is smart. It is not necessarily Pay to win. There are suites and weapons that are brought form isk are just as good as one brought with Aur |

This is my feeling too,and I have been wondering if CCP is totally clueless of this, but then I just started thinking, why would CCP not reset? What is the point of it? Then it just hit me.
CCP is banking on that those noobs that are getting abused by vets will like the game so much ,yet hate that they are so far behind, that they are going to start spending money on AUR in an effort to catch up or at least stand on equal footing with the vets.If this is what CCP is banking on,it will surely blow up in their faces,as most console gamers would rather move on to another game, than spend money on what is advertised as a Free To Play game in order to compete with people that are going to be handed a clear advantage from the start.
Whatever CCP says,I'm still not convinced that they aren't going to do a reset for launch.I just don't see how they figure that this is going to go over well with the new players that they are trying to attract to the game.

I couldent agree more, but from what I understand, sense this game is in the EVE universe its going to have the burtality and unforgiving gameplay of EVE..if you wanna play the game you need to die a lot in the game and master the learning curve |

From what I understand from Dev Blogs - this is going to be a very harsh game that some what caters to casuals. There explanation of this was simply that death is inevitable. and a lot of it. You either break through the mold and be a true merc or crumble at a real game and go newb yourself with more mindless CoD. It's not a mindless climb of catch up nor an unsteady one. Just accept death.
They promised people of a year a head won't be utter gods to people who just play - but neither does that mean fair play is the answer when facing them. CCP states pretty much over and over they want an over-all successful game and they hope there game modes and meta bring them in and keep them here and the gameplay make them want to keep progressing.
Also remember match making will be working properly come open beta if enough people join up - so we won't be seeing too many noobs in a lot of our games finally. |

Believe it or not they wont always die due to lack of skill, its usually the case in other games like COD where everyone is the same and quite level playing feild, Dust is a game where the longer you play the more powerful you become weather it is base stats like damge buffs from skills or out right better gear hell look at the difference between a militia Assult suit and a type 2 the type 2 is far superior even if it doesnt turn you into a god you still have a good advantage if you have even half a idea what your doing,
Combine this with the feel of DUST it will take them time to figure dust out we are all used to it chances are the new guys will be properly new and not have a clue what skills to train what modules to fit, the good defence spots on maps the gaps in defences and if we have a sizable head start they wont even stand a chance vrs us in 1 v 1 and thats best case senerio due to possibilities of difficult with sencitivities effective range of hip fire and ADS, and time to kill not many players are use to having to put continues fire on a target to kill them yet we have adjusted to them and yet some here still want gear and Sp advantage
While i agree New Eden is a dark and rootless place it still traditionally had high sec that allows rookies to train against AIs or other rookies till they were confident enough to make the jump to low sec where the true rootlessness of new eden lies |

The difference is that the ceiling on your character skill level is much higher in Dust than any other shooter probably ever. For instance,in MAG,if you started one month after everyone else, you would hit level 60 a little bit later, but you would still top out like everyone else eventually does, then it all comes down to player skill, and not the skill level of your character.
Casual players that join Dust 2 to 3 months in,won't have a chance in hell, unless they are playing similar opponents, which may,or may not be in as much of abundance as CCP would hope for. |

You have a point but I believe its confirmed that there will be no more resets, CCP is telling us this is a head start so why would they be like "oh sorry I know we said we gave you a head start but uh...wipe" I mean sure the free points. But it wouldent feel like a head start...besides we JUST had a wipe...people will be raging like no tommorow on the fourms I promise you Im Just carious How is any different from a noob when the game is out and rage quitting because he keeps dieing? I is like me joining COD and raging and such because I keep die from lack of skills. I just don't see any different than seeing someone joining for OB with people with all the skills, than joining when the game has been out for 3 months. I hope you guys are joking. Before wipe militia players were making protos QQ. Newbs can use nades as easy as any of us and crush with an LAV as quick as any of us. You guys underestimate people way too much. Besides - I'm sure CCP will hold events on weekends on such for more SP gains when game goes Open Beta to drive people to play. You really should look at the P2W market - CCP claims they don't want it but they're following it's mechanics. Though dust is still not a P2W game. |

We already will even without a reset due to experience, if you are reling on superior gear to noob stomp upon open i would argue that you do not deserve to also while iam fine with the theory they will have a hard time i believe the idea people have of the reset is to make the transition into DUST somewhat more enjoyable for the rookie if they have a chance to win that way they might actually stick to the game instead of just getting pissed off and rage quiting |

Why people think 3 extra damage difference per tier is going to make a whoop of a difference is beyond me. You realize you'll be paying to be awesome while those noobs getting stomped won't be. Eventually they'll start paying for gear and seeing how we're so strong.
That'll be the make or break point of this game. |

But you are discounting the meta game aspect,of which no matter what, noobs will definitely be much further behind than everyone else, even if they are still getting a fair amount of kills.
There's going to be so much QQ'ing from noobs about respecing their skills, because they don't have the experience of playing for the last half year, and knowing not to spread around your SP into spots that you don't need.
But even with that, regarless of protos QQ'ing over noobs killing them, the noobs with more than likely get outgunned the majority of the time, thus leading to their frustration.Couple that with the lack of knowledge of the meta game, and it could be a quick exit for a lot of players. |

Then the new players would get totally destroyed. If everyone starts off on the ground floor at the same time and you start late, then that's totally on you.The way that CCP will justify this is that if you wanted to get SP early, they you should have bought the Merc Pack, which is kinda BS.
And along with that, unless those players are being told by us that are in the beta right now,how are they going to know to get in now so that they aren't behind? I'm pretty damn sure that CCP isn't sending emails out telling people that this is supposedly the last wipe.

The ground floor was this reset.
It's actually pretty common to have a headstart as the game goes live these days.

But the ground floor should never be a Closed Beta.
CCP is acknowledging that people are getting a head start, which really isn't fair, nor doing any favors to the latecomers, which if you start on launch day,or even open beta, aren't latecomers.
I guess what I would like to know more than anything at this point is what is CCP doing other than the word of mouth of the beta testers,to let the people that aren't in the beta know that they should be in here now if they don't want to start at the bottom of the hill while every one else is already a good ways up it.

I think you guys are trying to hunt around for some optimal newb experience that wouldn't happen anyway.
It takes most people a few weeks to get comfortable with games anyway.
A few things mitigate this -
First there is really only a few weeks difference between a new character and advanced. Six weeks of dedicated AR build and you should be pretty much end game. After that it having more options in playstyles.
Second, given that this game should have a long life cycle measured in years instead of months, people will constantly will be coming and going at different skill levels. Why try to optimize around some mythical marketing launch?
Lastly the player base in this game is so bad (not trolling, the skill level is low) that I think good players will do fine coming in. |

Launch is when games are made, like it or not. If at launch the reviews and word-of-mouth say "we're getting surprise buttsechsed by vets who have been playing for months and have millions of SP and proto gear and millions of ISK, while we have broom handles for weapons," Dust will have a really hard time reaching an audience. Being F2P there needs to be a rather large player base for the game to be economically (irl) viable. I also means people have no reason to just ditch the game first time they get spawncamped or stomped by a corp in pub matches.

I'll just sum up my opinion with an analogy. What CCP is doing with not having a final wipe for launch is similar to this.
There's a pro basketball game being played tonight, and one team shows up to the stadium before the other team. The early team is out on the court doing the shoot around while the late team has just entered the stadium. The late team is finally ready to go,but has missed the shoot around, yet the game is still set to start at a certain predetermined time. Both teams are on the court now,and we are ready for the jump ball, but before the ball is tossed in the air to start the game, the early team is spotted 10 points just for being there first.
Do you see how that scenario doesn't make any sense whatsoever? CCP is doing the exact same thing, which makes no sense either.

Yes and no. I.e. if you have 2M SP in AR versus my new toon then I get instakilled for about two months or so until I also have an equivalent amount of SP then its down to who sees who first.
And some newbs like payback way too much to the point where I can see a lot of newbs just hanging around to payback kill the Dust vets.
My first day when I got the invite from CCP (long, long ago) I went 22 deaths and zero kills then when I was skilled up I went Dust Vet hunting in that long ago build.....lol!
And after this recent wipe?? Its all good.
Newbs who stick around will hunt vets.
Thus it was in COD, Halo, MAG and so it is and will be in Dust.

Imo,and I really hope I'm wrong about this, the playerbase for Dust will never reach the numbers that is needed to make this game the most epic game ever.Without that high install base of gamers,it's going to be virtually impossible to do what EVE does,in that it's playerbase has grown every year.

There will be noobs seeing passive SP gain and deciding to wait a few weeks until it builds up. The game of Dust 514 is free and thats an easy sell when money is tight or in the months that high profile FPS game releases are few.
I can also imagine some folks deciding on saveing sixty dollars and instead playing something thats free. 70 million PS3 consoles??
I have several AAA games right now but I still play Dust since I like the RPG skills system that reminds me of Mag and to some extents Fallout.
Later..... since its time for some Dust 514 playtime.

Whatever CCP says,I'm still not convinced that they aren't going to do a reset for launch.I just don't see how they figure that this is going to go over well with the new players that they are trying to attract to the game. Casual players that join Dust 2 to 3 months in,won't have a chance in hell, unless they are playing similar opponents, which may,or may not be in as much of abundance as CCP would hope for.
this is why ccp needs to drill the point home on specializing u dont need a ceiling in dust and tbqh takes about 2M-4M SP to have a proper fit which is a month or 2 of play tbh yes someone who started earlier will have more overall SP but that just means his toon is more versatile but not all his skills will be utilised at once. So a 50M SP guy running assault against a 5M SP guy running assault are pretty much even if the 5M SP guy put his points into assault stuff |

I figured that would happen when they read all that character creation text just to make a character. Or the first time they open the NeoCom to figure out the whole SP spending business. They'll be weeded out before anyone can even tag 'em. |

Regardless of a character wipe or not, the new players are going to get slaughtered six ways from Sunday.
Not sure why so many of you think another wipe is going to solve that. Sure it will lessen the blow, but even the first day on TQ the matches were just as brutal as ones on the last day on SiSi (actually were almost more intense to be honest). Plus we have all been playing Dust for months, so it doesn't matter what we are talking about, that kind of experience will usually always dominate players who have no idea about anything yet.
One good look at the recent Asia gameshow thing says all that needs to be said, all those players were in full proto gear and 100% maxed out skills, yet even me in a militia suit and militia weapons took them out with ease. Every one of us slaughtered those players, and they were 100% proto and maxed out skills!!
I think Dusters have become far too fond of the wipes, and likely many of you don't want to see the day come where the paths you choose are finally permanent. |

CCP can't wipe our player skill or knowlege which is our real advantage.
So what can they do? They can give us a head start to get enough SP that the matchmaking system can segregate us from all the new players.
If we are really expecting thousands of new players the vets will be a drop in the bucket, not an impenetrable wall of death. The new guys will be fighting each other until they get near us in SP (proportionally) and get matched with us.

actually not a bad plan because u are right our player skill and knowledge of the game especially where to invest early on will always have us on top newbies and they will still get raped regardless of a wipe or not and this is the best way to test the matchmaking system to make sure its actually working |

Now I'm ready for all the "give us noobs to kill" threads when matchmaking finally works due to a higher player count:-) |

Resistance fall of man had this problem where noobs would go against this super players with over 100k kills, 2.0 kdrs and just literary have no chance at all, later they would rage quit the game in about a week. |

The closed beta has a close knit and somewhat intelligent userbase right now. The flood of monkeys that could come in the beta will be upsetting to many. That is why you should feel little remorse in slaughtering them whenever you can. The kind of people we want in this game are those that will HTFU, stick with it and adapt.
Also CCP have sweet mercy and default mics to on. |

That is a very good point I keep forgetting about that I have heard others bring up, matchmaking doing it's job and separating us from the noobs. Because you are exactly correct, they can get rid of all we have in terms of gear and SP, but our experience is still far greater than any new players.
The ideal solution would be to let us continue without a wipe, that way when CCP does get the matchmaking correctly, the noobs will only be playing against other noobs (alt characters aside). The more I think about it, the more this seems like what CCP is planning, which makes perfect sense.
Our leveled up characters will be the means for which CCP is to work on matchmaking separating players by experience/skill/SP/etc. |

I submit this fact: We've been playing against terrible blue dots since the beta began. Time has not, nor will it ever change this. I would like to know where you get this notion that 100% of us closed beta testers are worth a wet fart in a blizzard. There are a select top .. say... 100 players (out of 1000's) who hold sturdily positive KDR's.
The simple fact is, gear or no, skills or no, the only thing you need to be good in dust is raw talent at FPS games. So I say no wipe necessary for launch/etc. but hey, lets see how open beta rolls out. If it truly is this uncanny "slaughter" you have painted in our minds, I will cede this argument to you, but until that day, I firmly believe nothing will really change. Maybe there will be a day or two of exceedingly easy games for some of us, but after people get the gist of the game, it's fair game. |
