Since the tank nerf I dunno if the forge gun is a bit OP in my opinion, I drove a tank with a very very high shield bonus. At objective B in Skirmish on the map where the NULL cannon is almost on the top of a tower I THINK it was a guy with a forge gun shooting at my tank across the map as I was on the other side of the map. I am not completely sure if he was there but still it was a HUGE gap between me and the guy with the forge gun. And ofcourse, three hits with the forge my shields were down and 20% of tank health gone, and then two more hits and my tank was gone, but still I do not think a tank is supposed to get soloed down by one guy, it should take ATLEAST 2 people with good guns to take it down. Know it is many threads about the same thing but this was my situation. Recap: Guy takes down a tank from across the map, it should not be possible.

Where were you and where was your team? For most players equipped with medium+ range weapon a heavy with a forge gun is pretty much a free kill. (unless he gets a lucky shot with the forge-gun or the player thinks it's good idea to stand still and take the shot. I play TAR-assault and no forge-gunner gets chance to get 5 hits against my teams tanks on my watch.

1. Forgot to mention that this was an Ambush match, my team was pretty much everywhere on the map, but i recall the huge gap between me and the other guy.
2. You have a point there my friend :) Never thought of it that way :) My issue was mostly pointed at the distance between me and the enemy, other than that you are right :) |

Ambush matches are generally pretty risky matches for tanks, the spawn system is so messed up that you might get shot in the back before your tank arrives.
Forge-gun is like a portable rail.gun, it's fairly bad against infantry and you are forced to use slow heavy armor with it. Forge-gun users are basically giving away most of their anti-infantry power to fight off vehicles. |

Yep, there is the issue with the tank nerf, we will have portable railgunners all over the place I am afraid, seen lots of more forge gunners than before. |

Whats funny is now we are seeing sniper forggunnners hitting infantry again . The might be a little Op i just wacked a madrgar with a standard forge solo. |

A tank should always require teamwork to destroy, as its hardly effective for anything if a single soldier can take it out regardless of how good their weapons are.
That said, it should also require teamwork to operate such a vehicle. Find all the threads about separating the main gun from the driver and post in those. CCP talked about that option in IRC, so its looking like we might get that implemented if we show enough support for it. |

Forge guns are massively underpowered compared to what they used to be. At this point, there's no way I would consider them to be remotely OP. |

I love the forge so beware. Bias.
It seems to me five-six shots is quite a bit of effort to drop a tank. Let's assume the assault forge was used with fastest mod charge time of 1.8 sec. (5 ranks in forge gun offering 25% reduction in charge time) Four round clip would be 7.2 seconds. Reload on a forge is fairly slow. 4 seconds? About that. Now we're up ~11.2 seconds. Two more shots to finish you off puts us at a grand total of 14.8.

As the tank is not so fast and I did not have so much cover and other threats lurking around it is quite hard to move without getting shot and if you just stand still there other guys Will take the tank down, to answer touren question I wap unable to move without getting shot, I recall that I am not sure if the stood were he did but still 14.8 seconds does not matter, he took the tank down solo, ot would not matter if I were behind cover for 5 minutes, if i har moved he would have shot again, even if he respawned he would try to take the tank down again. |

forge gun is hipfire only. so it's highly unlikely that he was all THAT far away and still hitting you.
unless he was actually missing most of his shots, and you were dumb enough to hang out while he charged and fired 4 times as many shots as actually hit you.
really, anybody that thinks a forge gun is op, use it for a bit. i accepted the challenge myself and took up tanking when i thought tanks were OP.
it's a beta, worst case scenario you "waste" isk and SP you were gonna lose anyway. |

If it takes one man to drive and shoot a tank, Then i don't see a problem of one man with a heavy railgun killing a tank.

He is completely srs. They just feel better than ever because (snarky reason first) they have been gone for so long and (real reason now) tanks got ubernerfed.
To the OP, shield tanks tend to stay still and fire, similar to a sniper. The forge tends to do more damage to shields and fly faster than the tank can retreat over a bluff. It, like the Swarm launcher, feels a tad tailor made to its intended quarry... its just, like I said to Mav, that the quarry went from Old Tom turkeys to game hen.
Also, anyone sat there and watched a Breach Forge Gun do its thing? It's like an episode of Dragonball Z: it sits there for so long charging its power, then fails to do enough with it to warrant the wait. |
