Well this is what I get for going to bed early. Woke up with last night IRC logs they were not human readable... So I began making it human readable as punishment for getting this information second hand, sheesh takes a while.
As stated previously in all IRC postings things here are not to be taken seriously, this is a very informal communication route and itGÇÖs like writing in mud in a rainstorm. Development happens, things change, options mooted. So to keep things from getting out of hand all statements are transcribed and boiled down to conserve space and get the point.
Some of these are from previous days but where missed because I wasnGÇÖt on the log is 5 days long so it gives me the opportunity to fill in some blanks.
And with me being asleep none of the questions on queue got asked ><.
CCP>'Hey guys take a look at this thread, what do you think? https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=34747&p=1 ' IRC> that would make HAVs useless without a gunner. CCP> 'The dropships are the same way in this aspect. There is nothing stopping you from swapping seats to main gun if you have nobody in your HAV.' IRC> 'That would be unfair to blasters' CCP> 'Yup' IRC> 'What about the turrets being too good against suits since the HP bonus per tier removal?' CCP> 'Has been noted,'
Whatcha doin now? 'Testing an update patch for the current build for you guys, a little something to hold over until next build.'
Hit Detection? 'You guys are so going to love it in the next build.'
DS3 Controllers not working on Dropships 'QA is lookin into it, check the forum post if you got more information send it in'
Pilot Suits? 'It is a suit that gives a vehicle a bonus but itGÇÖs bad in foot to foot combat you'll have to find out the rest later.'
New Player Experince? 'Improvements are inbound next build expect much better tutorials.'
Landing Gear? 'It's cool I had a chance to test them out. It might be in the next build.'
Erroneous Attributes adjustments on Vehicles? 'We think itGÇÖs being caused by unrelated modules we're looking into it'
HAV mobility testing? 'Currently to slow for our liking with the speed and velocity nerf we're still dialing things around and making adjustments on our build.'
Warpoints? We're adding more extravagant ways to get warpoints from transport assists (IE you delivered a soldier that captured a point) to other various things just we didnt have the bandwidth to do it this build.
Flaylocks and Scrambler Rifles? 'Not likely this next build'
Laser Rifles? 'They're commin'
Dropships 'With AV getting re-adjusted we're likely to increase their HP until more elaborate features make it in such as flares and chaff make it in along with better HUD make it in then we will continue gathering feedback once we get those out the door.'
CCP> "I still cannot believe you guys still haven't found our unicorn yet?!?" IRC Points at GM Unicorn. IRC> Well the logistics suit looks like a unicorn cept its horn is on his chin. IRC laughs the discussion eventually leads to the notion there is an ingame unicorn somewhere... or CCP is trolling us.
What is wrong with shield amps? 'Their resistance numbers are too aggressive we're dialing them back.'
Update/Patch? (not a new build mind you) 'It was already pushed back a week due to more bugs being found we hope to deploy either today or tomorrow'
What is in the update? 'AV and Vehicle fixes and adjustments for now until we figure out why new items are failing, and of course bug fixes, 'patch' notes will be posted.'
New Build? 'Still looking like end of the month,'
New Suits Variants? "There was an update but we ran into a market seeding issue, hopefully deployed by next patch.'
Controller Configurations? 'We went though that thread and we are discussing adding a few of them.'
IRC>Why should I continue to play this build? CCP>'No! You need to play this build more so you can then come and whine at us!'
CCP> 'Hey guys have you ever had an incident where your weapons stop firing?' IRC>' Once, mostly happens when the clone suffers a near or probably a death experience and goes walking around afterwards.'
*hint *hint, if any of you guys have this issue and can reproduce it email [email protected]
CCP> 'Hey guys do the missiles look right to you?' IRC> 'They look pretty normal like black darts' CCP> 'Kittens! are you sure they donGÇÖt looked like boxes with blue and white checkers on them?' IRC> ? huh? CCP> 'We broke something BRB.'
CCP> 'PC shooter or Console Shooter Population?' IRC> [i]'About 50/50, PC shooters normal the console shooters are a bit atypical and play other games such as RPGs. Also seems to be an overall lack of eve players. ' |

Current Queue of unasked questions for QnA feel free to add your own.
1. The camera feels a bit floaty with a gun attached to it sometimes is there any changes in camera animation to address this? (This is possibly already answered with the new character mobility model posted by CCP Commander Wang)
2. Sniper operators in IRC argued over this for two hours and concluded for at least now that Sniper Rifle sway and recovery should be increased drastically to encourage training to lvl 5. This will award skillful players for making the first shot count while not so skillful can make up for it. Also that damage be scaled down a bit now that suit hp is a bit more normalized.
3. After another long discussion about tank warfare, one idea that emerged was infantry trenches? Your thoughts?
4. The issue of the ever presistent ghost/dud grenades? Annoying as it is any insight to what could be causing the grenades to break? they dont like the idea of slamming into walls.
5. Are the new pilot, crusader, and Command suit going to use new models? or are they going be copy and paste (*shivers)
6. How is API/CREST going to be handled for dust and any realease of coding for it so 3rd party developers can work thier magic? |

Could you give a bit more of an explanation about this? Would it be in every game from the beginning, or would players create them via some new piece of equipment? How would these be useful at all anyways? |

Not a word on the crusader dropsuit. Well hopefully it will arrive with the pilot operator dropsuit. Thanks for the daily bit of info, Iron Wolf Saber. Hopefully they are not just talking themselves up though. I really would like to see how much more improved the hit detection will (should be) improved next build. That was probably one of the better mentions. Though it means nothing if the server itself is causing the lag, and that is unressolved. So yeah. We'll just have to wait and see I suppose.
Anyway thanks again.

Trenches would not be effective except as a place where you are trapped and die to the tanks support. If you look over the trench you die and you can't shoot the tank or the support without looking over the edge. Trench warfare really sucked, read some of the books and papers that are out there about this subject.
It is easy to get into a trench, you just hop down but how do you get out. If you are in a trench and foot support comes up, where do you go? You are in a trench without cover and nowhere to go to get into cover. If you jump out then the tank or his sniper support kill you.
Since a single swarm launch from a proto barely scratches the shield on some of the fits out there, and you are lucky if you stay alive long enough to get a lock and make a launch, just how are we supposed to kill or at least run off the tanks? |

@ iron wolf saber the link you have to the thread about hav is not working .
Trenches wont solve the splash problem from the rail gun turrets and the based mechanics of splash.
They will just splash the infantry trenches and we will be even easier kills, must have been suggested by a tank driver.lol |

Thanks again for posting these Iron Wolf.
I'm irritated they are thinking of taking the guns away from pilots completely. I believe their thinking needs to be flipped completely. I'd be OK with tank drivers getting a weaker gun though, or a bonus for driving a gunless vehicle. Pilots are the ones investing the skill points, and risking the ISK. Handing it all to skill-less players is my idea of a pilot nightmare.
The solution to tank dominance is combat air vehicles.
And the counter to them is AV and a possible swarm launcher turret for vehicles.
Like in reality.
But I digress.. ;)
My question - What is the "thing" is that they needed to take care of before bringing in fighters/gunships? (from an earlier IRC reply)
It seems they're trying to balance tanks without addressing the real counter that is built for them. |

I can be won over to this if CCP can actually reward pilots for flying/driving and not assume they will forgo SP and ISK out of the goodness of their teamwork loving hearts. I love teamwork, but don't want to need to crosstrain in order to earn SP and ISK to do my expensive job. |

I am no fan of tanks, but I find that separating the main gun from the driver would be to big of a debuff [even though I love the idea[ when compared to drop ships. Drop ships have the advantage of being on much higher ground, and as a response gives the gunner more targets to look at, while the pilot can focus on driving. If applied to tanks, I could see to much confusion in the means of mobile escape, and painting the right targets.
I'm glad to see were getting a patch before the next build, the focus on AV vs Tanks is going to remove some of my personal frustration. Not having to wait until the next build is just that much more satisfying.
My question is based around graphics, and though it has been speculated that seeing as we're in CBT that it would be far to big of a file for every update with better graphics. I'd like to hear something more solid. Is the game going to get flashier, and smoother visually as we get closer to release? It's not a selling point for me, but it seems to be for a lot of players. Something official might ease some worries. |

No. Pose a question other than something along the lines of "when are you gonna fix the thing that's broke?" without saying in what way it's broken. I'm not going to sift through threads for you just because you can't take the time to say why you think something isn't working as it should. |

Right now they're solopwnmobiles, and the game shouldn't have those. You can always switch to gunner to man the gun, but you sacrifice movement. If you can't find at least two people to man a tank, you shouldn't have called in a tank.
They should be viewed as a team asset and called in for specific tactical purposes, not "herp derp ima farm kills! lol" |

also wouldn't a simple sig radius damage ratio fix tanks? So only the smaller turrets can kill drop suits, and the large turret do less damage to smaller targets? Isn't that the point of the smaller guns on a tank? To fight off ground troops? The main gun should be terrible at killing people on foot. Great at killing tanks, buildings. |

I know what they are, and what they replace, but you are probably correct in that we would see no answer in what it's capabilities are assumed to be. Again I really loathe' the vagueness that comes from CCP though. It's a bit too hush, hush, wait and see for my taste. The only thing this does is make me lose interests. Not due to a short attention span, but the lack of proper respect? I suppose that would be the best (gross) answer. At any rate I guess I'll just wait and see if it comes in the next build or not. |

Infact the answer itself from someone in the IRC seems to give an ill informed answer, but I wonder more about the question and it's context then anything. As it was posted as I qouted it. It was one of the newer ccp guys asking how we feel about the current pool of testers and thier backgrounds, however I wasnt on to answer and the answer generated would mostly match what I would have given cept the eve online part.
I'm not 100% on why Blam asked but I was one of the two IRCrs who answered, and my answer is in Iron's post. We were talking about needing to see more stats in fitting screens and it seemed he was wondering what the player base consisted of and how much numbers and stats they may expect to see. He didn't explain it though.
Also Iron you missed [CCP]Blam telling us the Damage Control Units suffer stacking penalties when another module that affects the same resistances is in the fit.
Last thing you missed Iron is Wolfman telling us about the laser rifles. He said he's excited for us to use them and interested in what we'll think of then. Then let fly that they are long range damage over time weapons, so a continuous laser and not a pulse or Star Wars style. |

give my dropships a nose cannon, only has to be a small turret linked into the vertical aspect of the right analog stick, then ill pay tanks comments about tanks being undrivable or useless outside of arranged squads.
also if the tanks do become driver/main turret separated, you could give tanks a more realistic control scheme across both analog sticks!!!!.../half joking :P
my viper fit (advanced modules :P) took out its first madruger last night :), tank driver seemed distracted and after a bit didnt try to shoot me at all... just had to dodge swarms when getting in close to finish the tank off. :P
So my question:
Any news on Gunships? |

Hm. So what is this "surprise" may I ask, Iron Wolf Saber?
Also is anyone else getting burned out? I have to ask simply because, during the E3 build I played drastically more then I have this build. I have not even breached two million skill points. Not because, I am horrible at the game -- I'm averaging a strong two and half to one kill to death ratio. Infact last time I played I made just shy of twenty kills and next persons under me on either team was eleven. Anyway. I just feel really burned out already. Not that it's just Dust514, but really all games. I'm just burned out I suppose, but is anyone else getting burned out?
Sad is it not?...

Getting a little burned out I guess, though I'm still flying all I can to increase my player skill so I can compare dropships in the next build. I had four of them shot out from under me tonight, mostly due to being pushed halfway across the map and into buildings by swarms. I'm hoping to see that change, and im curious what effect the buffed swarms will have. One game the enemy managed to target me with six or seven flights that I couldn't shake and that was the end. If we don't get eWar it's going to be pretty dicey up there. |

While I don't advocate endless harping about it, there does need to be a squeeky wheel involved.
The current build is incredibly unstable, embarassingly so. To keep forging with new content before fixing old is unthinkable.
This coming from a software engineer, and one who uses daily builds and test driven development. Always meet requirements before whipping out toys. In this case, playing 0-3 matches before being required to power down, power cycle, or halt software is just ridiculous. It being possible to happen repeatedly before you can get one match in is bad.
It's usually a sign that higher ups don't know their kitten holes from their management buzzwords when they force the development to keep making bells and whistles (regardless of how much I like them) before giving reliable access to it.
Of course I support people searching the forums first, and documenting, then sending in to the designated email their bug reports.
On the other hand, no one is really doing that nor cracking down on people who don't so the squeeky wheel is more like a mentally handicapped forum, where not much can be expected except for them to enjoy a free videogame for a period of time. |

CCP uses scrumming to develop so teams dedicated to content can focus while teams for bug hunting can focus on thier ends just right now they're creating alot of what you would called technical debt. However they're on a tight schedule as well and to stop everything just to test a stability fix or prioirtize a stability fix that may or may not work isnt going to help make the game complete, you just would wind up with a stable gunless game.
All in all it needs ot be load balanced and stability imo I would shift as priority over the wonky swarm launcher or grenade fall thoughs. However it seems latency issues is on thier biggest to do list with hit detection. |

Buddy, pal.. You do not know me. I have a life outside of gaming and my job. I am advid amateur firearm collector, writing, I even play chess, hang with friends, go out on dates, and everything else other people do. Personally? I find life to be overated. Which is why I enjoy reading, and playing video games. The escapism that comes from such mediums. Please do not act like you know who I am or that I somehow just play video games all day.
I was asking a very simple question. Playing a [beta] especially can easily burn people out more often then the final product itself. It's more time consuming and intensive, and can be a pain to ednure. This is even more so for those developing the games. Lines of code blur together very easily. Especially when putting in ten to fourteen hour shifts sitting infront of a computer.
In the words of the wise.. GoML! |

Hi Saber here are some Questions for Devs, they are not of high priority but if you had time to ask them pleas do:
1. Can we have a bigger font? cause the current one is too small even on my 42" screen it hurts my eyes when trying to read description of certain item not only the font even there icons and bars are small the screen feels empty with everything clustered in the middle!
2. the ability to queue skills like in EVE?
3. indicator to show us who is talking during a match?
4. ability to join a friend in his MQ?
5. any kind of industrial activity in the future like mining?
6. Target practice arena with some sort of feature that let you know your total DPS/EHP in certain weapon/suit? |

For the rifle sway. I wouldn't mind more but currently with hit detection and the lack of pixel accurate scopes, Sway will just get too frusterating. Additionally I think I would be nice if sway didn't happen if you move very slowly a few inches to line up a shot (With DS3 _ONLY_)
Also, another question I'd like answered is if we are going to get more visual feedback on swarm launchers. Right now when you launch them you have to wait an unknown amount of time before you can relock.. otherwise they do nothing. |
