I use the sony 7.1 surround but I all ways chalked the lag up to the ps3 controller, once I plug it in to charge n play the lag drops considerably. |

I'm using the Sony 7.1 headset but can't atribute the rare lag I've experienced to just the headset. However I've never been able to hear anyone or speak to anyone. I've changed menu settings in-game, turned headset on/off and turned virtual surround on/off with no improvement.
I'll try other things mentioned in this tread and see what happens.

Yes.. I could replicate just that same you did.. BUT ONLY when with my longer HDMI cable. NOT with short cable. So only thing that changed was lenght of cable.. still same battle and settings and load.
Now explain why it has no effect. :)

this problem with the headset is worse with Precursor then the previous build. The game is now completely unplayable with the headset turned on. at least before it was intermittent..now it's constant. |

I bought a brand new wireless stereo headset (the 7.1 one) this week and so far I haven't had a single problem. Played for about 4 straight hours without running into any lag different from what I would occasionally get before I even owned a headset. |

The sony mic also interferes with my wireless keyboard on other games. Although it hasn't happened to the controller until DUST.
I have been playing with the controller plugged into a charging cable and haven't noticed the issue. I removed the cable to charge the head set it happened again right away.
I made a post about this and it contains a video of what is happening to the character for the DEV's

Then explain why when those of us with this issue cease having problems when we turn off the headsets? Discounting this as a connection issue makes no sense...at least to me.

You are correct.
As you can clearly see everyone else is moving fine on the screen so there is no lag issue, receiving the data is not the issue.
Turning off the headset or plugging the controller in with the charge cable solves the issue. Some people experience different things with the new PS3 mic's.
For instance, in DCUO the Mic interferes wit the ROUTER and makes an annoying clicking sound that other people hear but you don't. (this does not happen to me but it does for others)
Also on DCUO, It interferes with the keyboard typing. You hit some keys and they won't register and sometimes they register 10 times. Making impossible to type a understandable sentence.
And now in DUST its causes interference with the controller...
They have been having issues with this mic since FEB http://www.theverge.com/2012/4/7/2933011/sony-ps3-stereo-headset-audio-issue-update because of a firmware update. |

i did a lil test and it seems to be helping. i'm not experiencing severe lag as i was before when using this headset. with the USB dongle in and lit up blue, turn your headset on as well. find a small pin, poke the reset button on the Dongle first and then the headset, then just hit the mute button once and the headset is reset. this seems to have resolved my lag issue with it. i am able to run now. hacking seems a bit iffy as so far i've only hacked things with others around to help so i dont know if my hack was working or not. i did have one lil issue though, on one spawn i tried to shoot at someone using ADS and it continued to flicker in and out of scope as it did before. but after i died it didn't do it again.... |

Ill do some further testing tonight, but I turned off my PS bluetooth headset and went wired since I ran out of juice. The lag went away and the gameplay was amazing...
BUT... The map I was on had 0 environmentals going... no fog, no altered sky etc and was smooth.
I plan on using my wired USB headset tonight on the different maps and see if the lag goes away. If so, I know its the bluetooth that is causing big lag issues.

This is the same headset I have and I've also been having lag issues. Except I've also had the same problem with it in Battlefield 3 as well. So it isn't just Dust.
The dongle is connected to a USB hub on my coffee table and it sits about 4 feet away from the PS3. My internet equipment is about 5 or 6 feet away from the dongle so I don't think it would be causing any interference but I'm no expert.
It's weird though because sometimes there's absolutely no lag at all then the next time I play it starts lagging again. I don't get it. |

It is not the specific Software. This is just the arena under which I have experienced the issues.
Since I have been playing DUST with my charge cable plugged into my controller I have not had a single issue of this kind.
Hackign running, shooting, they all work 100% of the time. If I unplug the the controller to charge the mic the issues comes up instantly. So I use my lap top to charge the mic and keep the cable in the controller.
From what I understand, is the controller, keyboard, and mics all work on the blue tooth frequency and are itnerfering with each other wirelessly. Although, the issue still happens if I plug in the mic and not the controller, but unsure why (assuming the usb stick plugged into the PS3 has something to do with it). |

The PS3 Stereo Headset isn't bluetooth, which is why it requires that USB dongle. I'm not sure what it's signal type is, but it's definitely not bluetooth. |

i see these issues only with Dust. resetting the dongle and headset helped me but i still stopped using it due to it still having sporadic issues. spawn fine, die, respawn and have bugs, die, respawn and they'd be gone. it never felt like it was 100% gone either, sprint would maybe stop when i hadn't ran out of stamina. i always disconnect and reconnect the dongle but i've never tried it mid battle. |

Yeah for my keyboard issue in DCUO, I had to stop using the keyboard. For DUST i plug the controller in.
This mic has lasted the longest out of the Turtle beach (2 broken within 3 months, head set stopped working from lose wires) and the Triton (both ear pieces snapped and were dangling by the wire). I like this mic the best of all 3, just have to deal with some randomness I guess. I play games too long to use the Ear pieces as they die too fast and definitely make my ear sore after 6+ hours or so.
If you haven't tried using the mic and using a 10m long charge cable for the troller (there $10 at EB Games <--- Canadian IGN), I suggest this, since it works 100% for me. |

It's an interference issue that is quite common for the headset. It's hardware side so not DUST's fault. SONY has yet to admit the problem exists despite ample proof so we're all SOL. Wiring the controller resolves the issue. |

I use both the play station full headset or the play station single ear piece. Both make no difference. I lag out to the max no matter what. I'm running a Belkin $300 router. Our speeds are good but since an update a month or so ago. The lag is making it impossible to play most nights. Im in New Zealand which in 99% of my other games online work fine. Is this actually a head set problem or just the servers this is running on? |
