i've completely stopped using my headset for this reason. it has been this way for me since a few builds. i will try your resolution to see if it helps me
edit: changing from surround to stereo did not resolve my issue. i still could not sprint. i was able to aim down sights though, didn't get to test hacking with it.
edit: resetting headset is a possible fix, i did a lil test and it seems to be helping. i'm not experiencing severe lag as i was before when using this headset. with the USB dongle in and lit up blue, turn your headset on as well. find a small pin, poke the reset button on the Dongle first and then the headset, then just hit the mute button once and the headset is reset. this seems to have resolved my lag issue with it. i am able to run now. hacking seems a bit iffy as so far i've only hacked things with others around to help so i dont know if my hack was working or not. i did have one lil issue though, on one spawn i tried to shoot at someone using ADS and it continued to flicker in and out of scope as it did before. but after i died it didn't do it again.... |

i do not notice as much of issues with my official sony bluetooth headset but my 7.1 headset, either surround sound on or off causes extreme lag for me. unable to sprint, barely able to walk, unable to hack, unable to aim down sights.. |

Grit Breather wrote:Is the 7.1 headset actually worth it? If I were to buy it here, it would cost me almost $200. That's almost insane. i love the headset, Sony just updated the PS3 firmware to allow the headset to use virtual surround for movies now and not just games. Sony is coming out with a newer model, i believe state-side the current one is $100 where the new one will be $150 i do believe. its a nice headset but dust is unplayable with them, the headsets can also be used for PC but the virtual surround i'm not sure works on PC. |

Ona Monapia wrote:I'm using the Official Sony headset with the Virtual Surround turned on. Most of my issues pertain to the Left Stick and R1. Lots of sporadic lag and the inputs mapped to those specific buttons seems be constantly cutting out. So if I'm moving or charging a forge gun the gun will never fully charge or my movement is extremely "choppy" (to the point of not really moving at all). I went as far as narrowing the problem down to Dust but didn't think to try turning it off the headset or modify the sound settings. Something to try next log in. yes, please try to just leave those headsets off and let us know how the game is for you. my main issues when using this headset are very similar to yours. walking is choppy or sometimes i call it stutter stepping. then i cannot hack, it constantly resets. i cannot aim down sights, constantly going in and out of "scope" mode. i cannot sprint, it constantly stops me and i'm constantly having to click L3 to start sprint again. overall, just everything is choppy/stuttery/resetty(sp?) |

i too use the sony bluetooth headset and have the least issues with it. but it too will not transmit voice or i wont hear anyone on voice, i know i should be hearing people because i'll play with a friend who has mic and even sometimes in the same room and we'll hear different voices on comms.
to add a few more details, in another post (or maybe this one?) someone suggested disabling the surround sound and dropping it down to stereo sound. that did not resolve my issue. it did seem to be a bit better as far as i could aim down sights without a constant in and out flicker. but that was the only thing that seemed to be improved as i still could not sprint and did not test hacking as i turned the headset off, it feels like i'm being nerf'd lol
i've tried turning the 7.1 on before starting the dust client and even mid game and on each try i still get this issue. the only remedy is to immediately turn them off and i'm fine.
i have completely deleted all dust data off my ps3, performed ps3 safe mode, redownloaded and still have this issue. i have the newer 160GB slim bought about 1 yr ago. i am wired ethernet and my ps3 is static ip in the dmz so there should not be a port issue, upnp is enabled and i've got nat type 2.

this sucks... why does this only happen with some people's official stereo headset and not others? mine used to work without issue. now anytime i turn it on i start having issues. ugh. i was really hoping everyone with this mic had this issue so it would be easier to resolve. idk what to do. i've yet to try anything to make it work though. |

I'm also using the official Sony 7.1 headset. No problems, except that I notice that if the headset isn't on before I launch Dust, it doesn't seem to work. Quick question I didn't see for those who ARE having lag problems with the headset: Is your PS3 using a Wired or Wireless internet connection?(the Sony 7.1 headset uses radio frequencies to connect to between the headset and the USB dongle, so that might be thrashing wireless signals while its running) i'm wired. |

Annoying when people speak to you ( see that you have coms) but you are unable to reply :/
those of you having this issue, do you have your in game voice chat on? its in the Dust Options |

Tak Kak wrote:I only have lag when I am using wireless, you can also see the issue of the wireless devices interfering when doing just about anything on Dust. I think the newest updates to the sony headset have actually made things worse but it's hard to tell. i'm always wired. i noticed this lag was present for me before the PS3 FW 4.20(1) i believe it was the first two builds that i had no issues with? |

even after Precursor, whenever i use my 7.1 headset it causes a constant stutter type lag. i still cannot Aim Down Sights, it overall makes the game still as choppy laggy as it was before this patch. |

Flame Highsea wrote:Got it working : https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=31747&find=unread(...)so --> in middle of game I unpluged Hdmi cable and reattached to bigger tv with short (60-80cm) hdmi cable --> NO stutter or lag with headset on!! So you might want to try changing and recheking your HDMI cable lenght and that its connected propely! Good battles to you all! -Flame to be honest, i dont see how this would be the problem since when the headset is off it goes away and my HDMI has zero issues. its only when the headset is on that it has this stutter lag. the headset doesn't even function in any way with the HDMI either... they're just not related |

Ill do some further testing tonight, but I turned off my PS bluetooth headset and went wired since I ran out of juice. The lag went away and the gameplay was amazing... BUT... The map I was on had 0 environmentals going... no fog, no altered sky etc and was smooth. I plan on using my wired USB headset tonight on the different maps and see if the lag goes away. If so, I know its the bluetooth that is causing big lag issues. this isn't the bluetooth headset that causes this though. its the Stereo Headset with 7.1 Virtual Surround Sound. costs $100 USD and is wireless, comes with a USB dongle as it is not bluetooth. sadly the PS3 doesn't support stereo sound through bluetooth |

McFurious wrote:This is the same headset I have and I've also been having lag issues. Except I've also had the same problem with it in Battlefield 3 as well. So it isn't just Dust. The dongle is connected to a USB hub on my coffee table and it sits about 4 feet away from the PS3. My internet equipment is about 5 or 6 feet away from the dongle so I don't think it would be causing any interference but I'm no expert. It's weird though because sometimes there's absolutely no lag at all then the next time I play it starts lagging again. I don't get it. thats odd, that is the exact headset and i do not have issues with it in BF3 or any other game. only Dust. apparently some people dont have issues with it while others do. i was able to reset the dongle and headset and got less issues with it but its like you say, hit n miss. some games are fine, some are not, also i've had no issues, then died, respawn and had issues.. but its the same issues and they are only associated with this headset, unable to hack as it constantly resets, unable to walk as you constantly stutter around the map, unable to sprint as it constantly resets, unable to ADS cause its constantly flipping you in and out of scope. |

It sounds like this issue has more than one cause/effect, strange. yea, but you did reset it. its possible it did help, which is all i was asking. you may not have noticed immediately but after pulling the dongle it helped.
and yes, there seems to me something up with these headsets, is it the headset or Dust or what? some people have issues and others do not... i wish everyone had the issue so it would be easier to fix. |

HIGH TIMESsw wrote:... (assuming the usb stick plugged into the PS3 has something to do with it). this is a possibility, somewhere in this thread someone posted they had other items plugged in the USB and possibly off a HUB. i've removed my HUB and other devices from USB and get this with the dongle in only. i dont leave the headset dongle in any more because i no longer use the headset for dust and dust is all i play. it is possible for the wireless to interfere but why only Dust? or another game and not anything else? i have used my headset for tv shows off USB, netflix and other games and nothing has else has this issue.
Veigar Mordekaiser wrote:The PS3 Stereo Headset isn't bluetooth, which is why it requires that USB dongle. I'm not sure what it's signal type is, but it's definitely not bluetooth. correct, its not bluetooth. BT does still operate in the same radio frequency
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluetooth http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_802.11
i see these issues only with Dust. resetting the dongle and headset helped me but i still stopped using it due to it still having sporadic issues. spawn fine, die, respawn and have bugs, die, respawn and they'd be gone. it never felt like it was 100% gone either, sprint would maybe stop when i hadn't ran out of stamina. i always disconnect and reconnect the dongle but i've never tried it mid battle. |

any more information from you guys will help. i still do not use my Sony Stereo Headset with Virtual Surround Sound. and you can see how long this thread has been open. Devs state they're working on this but they're not. the headset still causes unplayable lag. try to hack, i bet you can't. try to sprint, i bet you can't (unless you keep pressing the sprint button), try to ADS, i bet you can't (it'll flicker in and out).
i'm going to report this so we can get a Dev in here again and see what they have to update us with. |
