So today I had an interesting experience. I used Forge guns for the first time. Really fantastic weapon for swatting LAVs and Dropships... however I fought against a tech II Gallente tank and lost my ass... over the next 7 deaths. Now ordinarily I would chalk it up to poor skill. However, I put at least 8 tech II forge gun rounds into him using the "Blastwave" model. This was within a 2 min. time frame... So I thought to myself "hey, this guy is good..." Then I realized I wasn't the only shmo out there trying to fight this ass. We were using AV grenades, swarm launchers and my forge gun to no avail. So to perpetuate the argument, why aren't we all in tanks again? |

AV grenades don't always go off, just like the Militia grenades, that may have skewed it a little bit. Otherwise, I have gone up against the Sargaris and the other one and had no trouble with the basic Assault FG. Granted, I had to fire every shot into him, but they do crack. |

there are a few things to counterbalance this.
Price of tanks, they are going to hurt the wallet to field, so they wont be _that_ common out there. Second, team play, those that go up against teams that field tanks should be prepared for it, like an antitank squadron in case a heavily tanked tank comes out to play, 3 players spawn in dedicated tank killer setups, nads and proto forge guns. The tank will start to feel the heat pretty fast. Today, this is hard to pull off with pickup groups with little or no comms and no real will to play together. |

So that was you?
Trust me, as a Surya driver, I fear those forge guns for a very good reason. They chew up my armour like you wouldn't believe it, only my heavy armour repairer saves me. And only if the bloody thing engages. My tactic for dealing with Forge guns is; I don't. Swarm launchers, up to 3 guys, I tend to stay and try to kill. Forge guns, and I'm running. |

Just to help out a touch, you can still make improvements to this build correct? As I recall you need Weaponry to meet the prerequisites of the Forge Gun and in turn this unlocks the weapon modules. Why not simply increase your damage with Complex Heavy Modules so that the forge gun gets more punch behind it. Also take my advice and get those prototype anti weapons. They are painful for the big boy marauder tanks. If there is other ways to improve the Forge Gun's damage potential and DPS (Damage Per Second) take that as well. The more damage you can do in a short time frame the better chances you and your group will have.
Another way to make sure you can keep that tank under constant pressure is to paint it as squad leader for destruction. This will give your squad encouragement to go after the damn thing even if they don't have miss because everyone loves extra points. Secondly this also means the tank will always be on your Tac Net HUD and thus you can always find it and intercept it so that it never knows a reprieve. But yes AV grenades (and grenades in general) sometimes just flat out vanish without detonating.
Third thing to consider is tanks have a blind spot directly behind them and to the left. The reason I say is most of the marauders I encounter have their turrets automatically pointing in the front and cannot spin it around to the back to fire on you except for the main one. The turret on top of the main one typically cannot turn to the left in this build and is at the mercy of the main turret's direction for the most part. So you can avoid being shot at by three turrets and instead only have two attacking you at once should they eventually spot you. They also cannot aim directly up so a dropship has a bigger advantage and can chase the tank down like this. Though do watch out for a nasty swarmer if this is the route taken.
This is just stuff I can think up off the top of my head. |

Yeah there's some severely overpowered Tank or tank + fitting that has impenetrable shield. Swarm missiles do nothing against these beasts nor anti-vehicle grenades even if they explode. Once I blasted one of these thanks with everything I have and managed to drop his shields maybe by 20% with swarm missiles and anti-vehicle grenades.
Tanks should be armored vehicles that can easily withstand normal gunfire while offering good offensive properties. Not the final boss of the battle field that requires whole team of highly trained anti-vehicle builds to take down.
Currently the anti-armor weapons like swarm launcher, forge gun and anti-vehicle grenades don't serve their purpose against these tanks. Nor are there any weapons that can disable or at least greatly damage shields. |

But the guy that kamikazied himself into the sagaris said sagaris' werent that tough once you get past the shield. He was right, it crumbled under pressure after sustained forge gun/ mass driver/ swarm launcher fire. We need that weapon damage diffirantiation damage too kick in so we can add more strategy for fighting both armor type and shield type tanks |

This is all good stuff. I wasn't squad leader and my headset is on the fritz. In after thought, one man shouldn't kill a tank full of 3 people. However, I wasn't having an effect. I really wish I knew what that fit was as it was dead hard. I didn't beat SHIELD in 8 shots. Also the nerf of Swarm Launchers makes them useless. |

As a Sagaris driver I'll tell you why in most battles everyone and their mother isnt in one of these beasts... Simply put, its because of two things, Prototype Heavies with Forge Guns, Prototype Dropships, and other tanks.
Simply put, losing a Sagaris scraps your game. If you lost two in a row, in two seperate battles or in the same map, you're heavilly in the negative, and unless you have a good Million+ ISK buffer your not going to be able to keep it up for long. Now granted that's a limited number of weaknesses, but you have to note, they all cost a fraction of what a Sagaris costs to rig up and be the Super Tank your talking about. For a Prototype Heavy that costs less then 100,000 ISK to take me out, or a dropship driver to gover above me while his team takes points and suppresses swarmers, it not that difficult, and makes it hard to field tanks.
Once and awhile you'll hear about a Sagaris driver who dies and fields a second one in the same battle, but usually this just isn't the case, its such a major loss that putting another one out makes no sense..
FINAL POINT, and this one is the key, there will NEVER be all Sagaris versus all Sagaris... This deserves its own thread. The reason is simple... Sagaris kill Sagaris easily, and if you have two teams with multiple they quickly wittle down to only one team having a few, or a TON of really broke tank drivers who won't be that stupid again. The simple answer to the question why aren't we all in tanks, is an economic question, its simply economically unstable and inviable for everyone to run around in tanks, if we did we would quickly all be broke.
Now if one team fielded all Sagaris tanks what would happen is a good question, I suspect what would happen is they'd all end up hiding under cover as a prototype Dropship went to maximum altitude in the middle of the map and rained TII missiles on their heads until a few popped and the rest were scared... At this point the enemy owns control point C because it can be gaurded from cover, but A and B are free for the pickings..
The key here is, even if the Sagaris is unbalanced and only Sagaris drivers can effectively compete with each other (Which isn't the case), it will never turn into all tanks on tanks, because frankly no team will ever be able to afford that.... Economics economics economics... |

Well if it was Noc Tempre, or someone how is equally as skilled up (not skilled, skilled up) in tanks and all their tertiary skills (reppers, armor modules, guns and so on) then chances are that he is out repping your damage. It reminds me of my Rattlesnake that I use for big fleet op's. Torpedo's up top with a cyno. in the Mid slots sensor damps and low slots are just beefed out with faction and deadspace stuff. The ship is expensive but between my fleets reps, the armor and my abiliy to keep guardians from doing their jobs on the other team this thing can tank more damage an enemy fleet can do, and if we run into trouble well...ITS THAT TIME OF DAY

Sagaris is a fearful tank, but hardly invincible. The few limes I've run into one in my Surya, it's nearly 50/50 on who survives, if any of us do. Basically, at that level, the one to get the first shots, have the best chance of winning, simply because it takes a long time for a tank to turn to engage. |

neither should one of these tanks be able to take down a whole squad.
One soldier who is specialized in taking out tanks should be able to deal considerable amount of hurt to any armor, as the builds sacrifice much to be able to do so. Especially since there can be what? 3 of these beasts on the battlefield at the simultaneously. Having high armor isn't the problem as it takes fairly long to regenerate, but nearly impenetrable shield is just too much since there are no Anti-shield weapons or equipment.
If CPP wants to offer players some sort of super weapons to command it should be objective based game mode where the whole objective is to take it out or defend it. |

it's not a single tank type, its these armored vehicles that are fitted to have insanely high shield hp in general. Having high armor is fine, as it takes ages to regenerate if it regenerates at all.

There are anti shield weapons or so I am told by people that play EVE. EMP or Thermal type damage does serious pain to shields so the Laser and the EMP Grenades the DEVs work on are the kind meant to absolutely just tear shields down somehow.
I'm not certain of course but this is just a simple deduction based on the whole brother and sister relationship DUST and EVE are intended to share.
And now to go into a bit of a tangent because I feel compelled to give some hope to the topic since it's not as bleak as it sounds.
Yes you can actually put tremendous pain on Marauders Class Tanks if you have specialized in that field. I say this because people have reported success in taking them down on foot and in the air. Be it by co-ordination, preparation, tenacity, skill or all of the above they do it. Hell a lot of tanks actually run like hell when they see people wielding prototype anti weapons because they know they cannot just bull rush that and prep themselves for a hard fight.
Hell my first match last night had me and another fellow with prototype swarmers just like me and were both detailed for Anti-Vehicle combat and we killed about six tanks between the lot of us and more then half of them were Marauders and yes there were confirmed Sagaris kills within the batch. So yeah there were two decent enemy tank drivers at least moving about and we still won out due to co-ordination and preparation.
My point is don't consider it a lost cause just because a Sagaris or such has been deployed. |

You also trade Turret Damage modifier potential if you run an Armor tank =), although I DO like the idea of a Gallente Glass Cannon with support that's ALL damage modifier and gank running around popping Sagaris's in one shot =D. |

Honestly man you are one of the few people I see rolling tanks that i dont get angry with. I know you busted your ass last build beefing the hell out of your skills, you even put forward an idea of spider-tanks. You should not be insulted by my statement, as what I tried to say but failed I guess is that (atm anyway) you are the standard by which others are measured in my mind of tankers hence the "not skilled, skilled up". So yes to say that a tank person has the same base skills as Erwin Rommel, does not make him the father of modern day tank theory anymore then saying that someone is has the same skill build as Noc Tempre, does not make that person the leader in "Eve Tanks" like you.
And incase that sounded vauge ill say this one last way "Noc Tempre leads where other tank drivers follow". |

The few limes I've run into one in my Surya, it's nearly 50/50 on who survives, if any of us do. Basically, at that level, the one to get the first shots, have the best chance of winning, simply because it takes a long time for a tank to turn to engage. That's what he was using actually, the drop ship idea was my suggestion :P didn't expect someone actually to do it. Good news though I know exactly what to do to bring a sagaris' to half way shields :D I think the guy went ape **** though when we killed 2 of his expensive tanks. He started calling in multiple tanks at the end of the game And that's where I chuckle and laugh like an idiot because guys like that do exist and it is absolute fun to trash those expensive tanks. Challenging yes and sure it might not cost him Aurum but my God is it satisfying! We were laughing at how desperate he got :D just imagine if we did kill all those he called in. I think he would just turned off his PS3 |

I can think of a worse scenario. Someone calls in a Sagaris and gets killed before it can land then his own vehicle gets hacked and used against him and his team. That is ultimate irony and it actually happened last night. I hacked one of those babies with a nice communicating squad and we just had some great fun during that match. |
