I do indeed have some news. Taken directly from interplanetary chatter, basically, what a beat space cop deals with every day.
A space deputy responded to a report of an MCC stopping at mailboxes. It was the friendly neighborhood mail carrier.
A woman said her son was attacked by a ravenous space kitty in the Black Shroud. She said that the kitty would not allow her to take her son to the hospital.
A resident of the same sector said someone had entered his home, at night, and taken five pounds of bacon. Upon further investigation, space police have discovered that he was in fact a heathen and his wife threw it all out.
A man reported that a space squirrel was flying around in circles on the far end of his Palatine Keepster, and he wasn't sure if it was struck with the Age I Mercenary virus, or if it was hit by a freighter. A space official responded, and as he flew to the scene, he rammed the space squirrel with his rifter.

We WANT to feel the hype, we WANT to know what you're doing to the game we're all eagerly awaiting, let us celebrate, instead of keeping us in the dark for so long, we lose hope and just forget about CCP completely.
Speak to us, or at the very least, post concept art of the maps you're working on every once in a while, so we can have hope!

As much as I want to have news too, it's pretty normal that the dev's don't have the right to talk about their project. Otherwise, anyone could copy it.
I don't think CCP is doing a good job at "leaking" content though. You guys should allow a few information to leak every month at least. It would keep us hyped. Just saying that the game is still being worked on, it's at x% of its development and a full n people team is working on it, would be a great announcement !

I hope there's plans for dynamic scenery in maps. Things like gates, doors, elevators, etc would really make for some interesting strategies, especially if vehicles are implemented later.
The other thing I'm not sure about is having procedural or random layouts. Dust had sockets, but since the sockets were pretty much a large mesh it may as well been static. The only thing that should be procedural are small prop placement, materials, and scenery. Just so we don't always see 3 crates stacked in the same location, or a vehicle always parked at the same angle. I'm not that big on procedural stuff over placing things by hand since it's always more trouble than it's worth, but if done lightly it could work. |

One thing I've noticed is that games tend not to have vertical maps. I'm not sure if its an issue with how radar is traditionally displayed being horizontal, but you don't tend to see maps with something like a large vertical core where awareness isn't just left and right.
Something like a gigantic tree with various branches holding buildings and lots of jump pads or vacuum chutes would be interesting.
Dropping down from above for a literal ambush, or striking from under the floor just doesn't seem to be favored, as most maps like having you run face to face into one another, so you can know where someone is long before they actually collide.

It'd be pretty cool to close/open doors to cut off/open routes to different areas. Not too much though - it shouldn't be easy to bottleneck the other side and force them to go through a choke-point. But a healthy amount of different routes to take would be awesome.

And the orbital artillery in beta before it was mutilated.
That being said, there definitely needs to be a better way of climbing up things than massive ladders.

So one person can knock on a locked door and start hacking it to get everyone attention, while someone else pings a grenade from the air vent above them! The counter to airvents should probably be airlocks... Just hack a console to vent the scrubs into space.
Have fun with cargo bays... The one room on a ship that can have literally anything in it. Including statues of CCP staff members. Gotta put yourself in the game somewhere!
Also cranes in large rooms, that people can hack from terminals at either side of the room... Easy way to disperse a crowd, grab them.
So yeah... Lots of terminals to hack... Or booby trap! |

Such as having gravity move along a central pillar on the map, so that if you moved around the pillar gravity would always be moving you toward the pillar's center. This could create some extraordinary sci-fi feelings maps as well as interesting challenges for the player.
2) I know you can't give feedback on what you are working on, but perhaps think about including maps with non-symetrical objectives?
As an example, the defenders must destroy all the invader's clone bays to expel them from the ship / force their clone count to zero. The attackers must destroy the ship's generator / other hard points. Attacker and Defender then have different clone counts. (100 vs Large Number)

I, myself, would like to see multi-tiered stages as DUST originally had such. In Project Nova, I would see it as the attackers enter via the back of the ship and fight their way to the bridge. In my mind, the attackers would have to battle their way through one section of the ship to unlock access to the next section; 3 sections in all. It would definitely add strategy to the game if there was more than one way to get to the next section as both attacking and defending squads would need coordination to win. Probably too late and too much trouble to implement in Project Nova but that is what I would like to see.

On a side note, I believe that the previos esport-like battles in Dust 514 didn't fit very well in Eve universe: running around the map to capture points, even if funny, usually disrupt the feeling you are in a dark, unforgiving, lonely universe. In my opinion, the old skirmish 1.0 would have helped conveying that sensation, since it is more like a "traditional" battle that admits no strategic mistake, forces you to play with your team, but somehow allow you to have fun Ramboing behind enemy lines.
Of course, this always go back to the statement made before: since we, the community, don't know anything, both this suggestion might sound stupid to LogicLoop, perhaps because the scale of the battles is going to be a 12 vs 12 and having a skirmish 1.0 game mode in a 12 vs 12 would result in a very boring game mode.
In other words... we need to know

While you are making many stuffs for the continued glory of Unspecified Name New Eden FPS, can I express mild dislike of the distances involved in the socketing system from DUST, and the emphasis on rooftop camping?
The latter was perhaps partially due to weapon design and suchlike as well, and it did get better on later maps (the Gallente research facility comes to mind as an example that wasn't too bad) but there was some seriously unhealthy play going on there. It was a particularly obnoxious playstyle on maps like the large mushroom socket and the pipeline through the Gallente tower thing.
The socket system was a neat thing and did really help keep the game going IMHO, but on some map designs (and again, I figure you've picked up on this since it was less present in later maps) the open space between buildings led to subpar gameplay IMHO because I and protostomping comrades would simply sit in a fortified position and mow anyone who dared try to cross down with rail rfiles and other long ranged kit.
I appreciate that a fair bit of this may not be under your control - the game's tactical dynamic was drastically changed by longer ranged weapons and falloff changes - but in the context of long ranged weapons existing, too much open ground is a bad thing, IMHO.

1. A mix of sizes of maps. I found the variety in Dust interesting. The players will eventually sort out the socket combinations which become the most fun to play. (Who doesn't remember the old fish bowl)
2. A mix of vertical layouts. Single, triple level buildings. ( Any more than that and whats the point)
3. A mix of interior and exterior layouts. Cross this with some maps where a vehicle is key and the alternative isnt really an option at some point in the game or mode. (I never really saw the point of vehicles for me in Dust) I think getting everybody behind the wheel at some point will add so much more to the game granted, there will always be specialists if the new game plays like Dust but vehicles can be so much fun.
4. At least one or more of the good maps from Dust ( I think you already have one in mind.)
5. Two new maps per year and as the old maps are rotated out a special event twice a year to bring them back for a week or two.
6. At least one mirror image map. If there is a CTF mode in the new game this would make things very interesting.
7. A PIE mode (Person in Environment) for all maps. This would allow noobs the chance to walk the maps an figure out which way is up, North, etc. ( I make no assumptions the new game will have PvE.
8. Destructive but rebuildable assets. Allow for some of the assets to be rebuilt not just respawn as new
9. This one might be a stretch but perhaps assets in the various sockets which can be improved (These assume more if an engineer slant in the logi class)

What I desired most from the dust maps was for them to be more "alive." I wanted weather outdoors, with random effects. Day or night variations.
The indoor maps and buildings lacked any sense of functionality. They seemed unpopulated vs hastily abandoned. No signs of life or use prior to the battles taking place. That was one area dust could have improved on to strengthen its connection to eve.
It's the little things that make us feel at home. I want to see more of the universe and be able to interact with it. Whether it's shooting bottles of quafe or dumping minmatar slaves into space through in airlock. |

Apart from that, environmental methods shouldn't be -too- complex (like changing the temperature of the room to make laser weapons heat up faster) but opening a pipe vent to shoot out flames or pour the death fluid from DUST into a lower tunnel of the map, would be nice to have.

That was such a good game when I was in college... We'd have LAN battles on the last day of term. I would definitely suggest it's one of the best team based fps games there has ever been.

So far in my gaming career the most interesting way how developers presented this kind of "dynamic scenery" was in Alien Isolation(just search for it on youtube).
To make short descriptions, there was something like 4 ways to open closed door, and 2 of those ways had 3 levels unlock so in order to open door you had to find upgrade to one of your tools(torch/welder, hacking-tool). First 2 ways were more basic - doors remain close until they detect movement, or they simply need power(so you had to find terminal to rewrote power somewhere).
What DUST were missing at the long run was complexity of small things, like with hacking CRU. There was only two options for hacker: A do not hack it at all, or B hack so year teammates may spawn on it. If we would think out of box someone could hack structure without intention to capture it, but instead make it so it would operate not so much effectively for enemy team. Like with extended respawn countdown on random timers, so that if 5 people are choosing to spawn on it on the same time as a squad, they instead spawn separately at various time intervals, or different options CRU can spawn x players per x seconds. All timers could depend hacker skills or unlocks he have, so that the most high grade tool are difficult to detect and these cheap ones alert enemy's nearly by instance. Of course this mechanic need to be visible after use or for someone that make maintenance check. Size of fixing broke structure should depend on enemy hacker skill(again), so that if it was vary basic everyone can fix it(rip of device attached to structure with duck tape) or if it is complex someoneSOMEONE will have to pull needle and press a little 'restart' button with it, or use computer to do it if there is no needles around. Similar timers mechanics may be apply to your own team as form of punishment for bad-hacking, and then some super-nija from your team would have to come to it and fix.
Another thing that I keep in my main is kb-related. Dust corporation had general players statistics, so groups of players that did care about they looks on kb had to constantly kicks some of players from they corporation for not keeping it up to standard. If corporation instead had divisions that do not share kb-statistics as whole, we could have good and really bad players in the same corporation. So this is idea, make divisions in corporation so that they have they own general statistics.

I was always big into Spec Ops play style.
I think I had a profile of 11 or something like that and hacking and setting traps being a silent killer using speed + stealth to my advantage.
When designing maps please keep this in mind for those of us who prefer this assassin/ninja play-style.
I also liked big maps with spread out hacking points because that forces teams to coordinate strategies more instead of just running around from point to point.

On environmetal hazards how about explosion like grenades and remotes do damahe to ship and facilities. Maybe create a hall breach where people get sucked out for a short amount of time. A fire that reduces visivility or nurn people to death.
Expand the battle to not only 16 v 16 but maybe 16 v 16 v16.
How about some bots or ncps that have no aliance to anybody. Maybe dome pirates, or natives or robots defending a station.
For the love of the amarian empress (may she redt in peace) keep the squad finder. I've tried various games and dist had the best one thus far. Also keep the avility to join a squad while at the ship like it was at the begining.
Finally a little bit of character customization. Nothibg too fancy. I would had loved for each corp to have some easily identifiable markings on their suit so you k ew whos clan you are shoiting at and promote teamwork. |

i'm not really a fan of bullet drop honestly, it adds that tiny amount of skill required for automatics, and makes sniping just a pain in the ass and gives it an impossibly high skill ceiling. Maybe if we get the Precision Rifle we can add it to that to offset it's high damage?
But projectile curves on full auto weapons would ultimately result in a "aiming the stream of (bullet) **** at people's heads" form of sniping, which I ultimately wouldn't stand behind.

Btw , here's another great idea . if P.C ever gets introduced in NOVA , later down the line . have a 3 phase battle , for example : first battle will take place in ( enemy carrier / MCC / titan / space station base etc ) . if victorious , enemy ( attacked team ) retreats back to ground level ( production facility / mining facility / clone facility ) to fight it out there . the reasoning to this , is to make the battle more unique and unpredictable . its a change of pace battle . its a game changer in the sense as if the Attacking/Defending team had eve orbital support . "your boarding enemy ( space station / MCC / titan etc ) that has different layouts , & then again you hit the ground and everything is different as well . just a thought .

Paragon doesn't have as much of an emphasis on snap-rotation movement and pin-point aim as a PC FPS. You ever notice how someone playing an FPS on PC seems to whip around instantly whenever they want to change direction? That's because the game directly translates their mouse movement to their character without any interference or slowing.
A controller just can't match the combination of lightning-fast speed and pin-point precision that a mouse gives by allowing you to move your hand in large strokes across your desk before stopping that motion immediately on a target and maintaining aim with small, slower movements to get the kill. Thumbsticks don't allow for that kind of input.

I am not too concerned about what isn't being said and much more about what the influence is for the new project. The most important thing as to whether the project is good is what was the for thought and inspiration going in. In other words, was the successes and failures of DUST properly examined and did they inspire CCP to achieve greatness, mediocrity, or a journey down another path entirely? Do you long to make something great from the premises that DUST based on or will the goal be to make a COD or BF4 in space or something entirely new? And BTW what other things out there were you guys n gals playing or watching that may have influenced the direction? I really think it should go in a direction similar to Angel Fall First(still in early access on Steam) as well as take conceptual ideas from Planetside. I don't think that trying to create a clone of BF or COD will ever work for your company because of the name and money behind those companies. No Man's Sky might be something you should consider as people bought in to a indie studio based on the concepts Hello Games put out there despite the failure to deliver. NMS in some ways even reminds me of DUST in some ways, but was able to be the most successful indie game in history based on amazing PR that put things out there and people went crazy for just the ideas. I think if you make a round based shooter you can have success but most likely never make anything great or substantial in the history of gaming. Or you can go and try and make an open world, procedurally generated game that provides fresh new adventures within the lore of New Eden. Or atleast something that considers the concepts behind both and maybe slowly rolls out unique features(perhaps with and intelligent F2P model based on cosmetic and luxury in game purposes-I actually like a simple buy to play get features up front system but most studios seem to be moving away from that concept). Anyway space is hot right now and it may seem stupid to wait to release a product, but I think it is important that you make the best game possible. OR you could just #PORTDUSTTOANDROID and I could atleast visit me district cargo hub and watch my clone living it up in retirement sipping virgin screwdrivers while driving around in his invisible LAV 5.0 with the top rolled down so his hair can blow.

Luckily I still have my old eve char lying around and have been playing that since 2014 or so. I certaintly didn't buy 1000 of every dust item and are holding them in my station hanger.
Been logi'ing since release. Need to give those needles and self proclaimed king of logi hugs ^-^

Dual Universe does NOT have any form of FPS gameplay.
It looks like a great game and I'm planning to play it myself, but don't get into it with faulty expectations or you'll just end up pissed.
