The thing is having a future that let's them do that.
Without the draw of the MMO elements and a living link to EVE Online, how can CCP hope to compete?
I know I sounded like I"m already doomsaying, but the truth is that like with Legion, this is "PROJECT Nova". Not a confirmed game.
That means we can influence it with feedback just like the Valkyrie community has been doing with that game. We just need to get started ASAP so we can try and make sure this game succeeds.

That seems to be all gone. Maybe the lobby shooter will at least include an on ship map.
I guess star citizen will be the only one that delivers anything close to what we all wanted. |

EXACTLY..
I mean come-on, after all this time you give us a lame lobby shooter?? I thought CCP was all about innovation, all about making an experience that only they can deliver, something that is very ambitious, very complex, and very deep.
Sounds like they just want to milk some people out there with a free to play micro-transaction game with re-hashed assets from Dust...
What a SHAME and LET DOWN after all those years...

The social aspect created by the little bit of MMO we had in Dust was what kept the game alive and kept the cash grabs going. If they are really throwing that out its game over and this will not even be worth trying out. |

Wow, you're naive! No we can't get CCP to change this. They've been going in this direction for a long time now, despite people saying they didn't like it. They're going to keep going now that they are moving to a platform that will let them do it better.
They've been oblivious to the fact that this was the wrong direction for so long, it's just not possible they'll wake up now. |

And now all we get are spaceship themed maps. Which in and itself is maybe not THAT bad, but they apparently are doing this but kill the connection to Eve Online.

Interesting.
Round based shooter. Focus on shooting mechanics and smooth gameplay. Set in space. On carriers and asteroids etc. More Eve assets. Dialed back MMO aspects. Class based interaction. Tank - heal - dps. Double jump scouts. Tanky but less damaging sentinels. Character customisation but easier to get into than than EVE-style. Shared starting race (gear I assume) followed by racial customisation as progression.
To be honest, I'm not too upset by the reduced MMO aspects. This feels more like Dust than Project Legion. With Dust they tried to make both a fun fps and an MMO. They did manage to make Dust a fun shooter, eventually, but could never deliver on proper MMO mechanics. This announcement feels more like taking what they got right with Dust and cutting out the extra stuff they couldn't deliver.
To those complaining about a CoD clone. It's not really. Sure it's a round based shooter, but double jumping? Tank heal dps? It sounds more like TF2 or Overwatch, but with more customisation (hopefully) and set in the Eve universe.
With Dust they tried to make the most ludicrously ambitious fps ever. With intense combat, MMOFPS gameplay, Eve connection. It just didn't work. At least this time they can focus on making a good game, even if it won't be the most original. The dust we've been playing has been basically a lobby shooter. I've enjoyed it, but I can't count the times I've wished for a decent framerate.
I'd be happy with the ability to keep playing Dust with working mechanics and smooth gameplay. Even if I am sad we don't have the amazing ground-based companion MMO for Eve. You never know, if they can make a good game maybe someday these things can be linked to Eve in some way. |

At this point I am imagining something like a Blacklight Retribution clone. I have a feeling it will be packed with more of the same pay wall BS that was the warbarge in Dust but I am honestly trying to reserve judgement (unsuccessfully) |

Although I got a bitter taste with the "less MMO" part, I will hold on with my judgment until we get more info.
For me, what drew me to Dust was the connection to EVE... To be part of something bigger... The meta game of New Exen.
Fighting in corridors could just be a warehouse as much as a spaceship. You just don't know unless you somehow got there via a ship, right? I sincerely hope they meant the focus "right now" was less MMO (to get the FPS up to par), in case I fully support them.
It will be extremely hard to add the MMO connection on later, if it's not part of the overall plan right now. |

For me its the combination of "less MMO" and "less skill tree" that really bums me out.

If the game is playable, CCP should already make the demo available for Dust Veterans. Not Fanfest only. They want feedback after all, right?
The most obvious feedback they are already getting: Don't turn back on the MMO stuff, but expand on it. Th ebiggest problem the community currently has is not, that Nova is currently in such a basic state, but that, apparently, CCP is only aiming for this and nothing more.

I highly doubt most of us have a PC that could run it in the very unoptimized state that it is most likely in. Hopefully someone at fanfest is able to answer my thread requesting info on what the PCs which the demos are running on look like to try to get an idea if an alpha release would even be viable any time soon. |
