Interesting.
Round based shooter. Focus on shooting mechanics and smooth gameplay. Set in space. On carriers and asteroids etc. More Eve assets. Dialed back MMO aspects. Class based interaction. Tank - heal - dps. Double jump scouts. Tanky but less damaging sentinels. Character customisation but easier to get into than than EVE-style. Shared starting race (gear I assume) followed by racial customisation as progression.
To be honest, I'm not too upset by the reduced MMO aspects. This feels more like Dust than Project Legion. With Dust they tried to make both a fun fps and an MMO. They did manage to make Dust a fun shooter, eventually, but could never deliver on proper MMO mechanics. This announcement feels more like taking what they got right with Dust and cutting out the extra stuff they couldn't deliver.
To those complaining about a CoD clone. It's not really. Sure it's a round based shooter, but double jumping? Tank heal dps? It sounds more like TF2 or Overwatch, but with more customisation (hopefully) and set in the Eve universe.
With Dust they tried to make the most ludicrously ambitious fps ever. With intense combat, MMOFPS gameplay, Eve connection. It just didn't work. At least this time they can focus on making a good game, even if it won't be the most original. The dust we've been playing has been basically a lobby shooter. I've enjoyed it, but I can't count the times I've wished for a decent framerate.
I'd be happy with the ability to keep playing Dust with working mechanics and smooth gameplay. Even if I am sad we don't have the amazing ground-based companion MMO for Eve. You never know, if they can make a good game maybe someday these things can be linked to Eve in some way. |

But honestly I agreed making a solid game first getting all the gameplay mechanics right and then make it bigger. It took years to make counter strike global offensive good. So far I am agreeding with their decisions but of course I hope more mmo immersion later on. Planet building etc and free roaming pve salvaging you know what I mean. All of this. While the future isn't 100% certain, remember that no one the community actually played "Legion." Everyone here can (and some already have:) played Nova. Obviously it's a demo, however, if I wanted to play a lobby shooter with almost no customisation and barely any people, I'd go play COD. Again it's not a finished product, but seriously? Yeah it looks good but it's getting rid of what made dust, dust. Hopefully I'm completely wrong and it's gonna be a completely different game than what we've seen (I hope I am) but this is just underwhelming. They haven't shown us the customisation yet. Rattati was a bit vague about it. I'm hoping there will still be a decent amount. |

I hope vehicles make it in. There's been no indication that interior maps will be the sole focus of the game. In fact, I'd be happy if they had outdoor maps dominated by vehicles to even out the indoor maps.
I too would be very much against CCP removing the strategic / tactical elements to the game. However I don't think this is what's happening. If the game was dumbed down everyone would be a run-and-gun medium with a rifle. The fact that Rattati mentioned focus on tank-heal-dps, and the fact the demo has sentinels, cloaks and snipers, all point to depth of gameplay. Which is something I was worried might be reduced.
Let's hope they get vehicles in as well. Just in case, I think I'll be spending my remaining SP in Dust on vehicles, whilst I still have the chance. |
