Could really do with a BPO power core to go with the skin. As a replacement for a BPO suit. |

Reducing strafe speed is likely to have the most effect on suits that currently rely heavily on strafe speed, i.e. assaults and hp tanked scouts.
Hopefully this will tone down FOTM min assaults, as well has helping stealth gameplay, HMG heavies, rep and scan logis, commando utility and shield tanking. Generally making things more tactical.
Unfortunately Gallente assaults may suffer as much as Minmatar. There was mention in the past of possible AR buffs or Gal ass bonus improvements. May be best to see how things pan out though. |

We need more clarifications on some of tge items mentioned. Here is obe question in regards to BPOs. I bought a quafe bpo suit (and matching methana car). This suit its a basic caldari scout but in pinkish/purple color. Because it us a bpo suit and NEVER!!! runs out this suit saves me 3,000 isk per death. With the new changes will the suit become consumable? |

i might have misread or something but feel free to explain c:

On the hotfix front, I have been considering a complete limited tiericide, ie. removal of slot progression from all dropsuits. I was always against this in terms of the NPE/Player experience as i felt the motivations for tiericide were misguided, but for it in terms of what it might accomplish with memory/framerate. At this point i'd say we have to try and see what improvements it yields. Plus i want to rub it in the faces of all those idiots who said it would be less stompy for the noobs.
We have also been busy on the SKIN front, and the plan is to finally be able to remove the unique BPO's and replace them with SKINs. We were hit with a little curveball from EVE, improved tools for us all, but slowed down our pipeline while we got used to the new tools. I am ready for my Raven skin, bring it. Interesting, what kind of new tools? Part of the shared technology that forms the platform for EVE/Dust/Valkyrie?
However, due to all these complexities, we may need to fold logistics and commando slot changes into the next release, instead of deploying through a planned hotfix Foxtrot. kk
One change we will be implementing is a flat strafe speed reduction, from 90% of forward speed to 70%. DUST 514 is a tactical shooter. This change can be debated, but probably not averted, but it could be reverted in a later hotfix. We really have no choice here, we can't allow suits to move faster thane the game can handle. This change will reveal just how weak my beloved Minmatar Assault/Scout suits are. I agree with the strafe nerf but it feels like we're shooting ol'Yeller.
We still aim for a cool Event with an awesome reward, and a Newsletter with another very cool reward, so lots of things happening. o7 Thanks to the team for the hard work. You mercs rock.

With the new changes will the suit become consumable? With the flattening of slot progression instead of different tiers of suits we're going to be getting one suit per role, per race (Plus officer suits and other small exceptions). So instead of having over 100 suits, we'll have closer to the range of 20. All these suits will become BPOs, and instead of having, say, Standard, Advanced, and Prototype Amarr Sentinel, we'll instead just have Amarr Sentinel with a Standard, Advanced, or Prototype Power Core. So you won't have the Quafe dropsuit BPO anymore, but you'll have a Quafe SKIN BPO that can be applied to your dropsuit, which will be changed to a BPO with the upcoming slot progression update.
I could be wrong, though, because I haven't been up to date on tiericide in a while. Things may have changed since I last looked. |

I do hope we get a Power Core BPO too. Because the Elite Pack as well as the CE Code was kinda too expensive to be reduced to a mere SKIN now.

Don't even think on backing out of it / changing it later. This is a big change. Very plesant.

Is love to see commando/logi slots wrapped into tieracide changes. We commandos cvould use an extra slot, and logis in general need their slots/fitting to be normalised across tiers and race.
Loving the strafe nerf so much. Interested in seeing how reducing the only active means of tanking will effect fittings. I personally expect more froggers, scouts, and sentinels.

As you say, heavies rely less on strafing themselves, so the nerf won't hit them as hard.
Regarding Gal assaults, I was saying they tend to rely quite heavily on strafing, so the nerf will hit them harder than some other suits. I was also saying that we should remember that there has been mention of possible AR/Gal assault buffs, so perhaps we shouldn't worry too much about the effect the strafe nerf might have on them. |

Maybe you want to clarify your definition of a tactical shooter, because for the past 2+ years Dust has never been anything near what you're inciting.
Furthermore, I have always questioned the wiggle wiggle witch hunt movement. I agree, Hit detection is not perfect, but by all means a player does not become invincible by moving back and forth.
So my question is this:
Is Dust 514 now a branded tactical shooter and therefore strafing is no longer a needed mechanic?
or
Are we reducing Strafe speed because it is a proclaimed hit detection problem? |

I Don't Know if This Was Touched on or already known, but if strafe speed is being naturally reduced, heavy plates need to be rebalanced. If they aren't, anyone who uses them will be unable to move any other direction but forward. They pretty much won't be used at all.

Maybe I mis-spoke. I was getting at a PC version of DUST targetting a 64-bit architecture instead of 32-bit, and the associated benefits. The way I read your post (which I can't see from what you quoted here) I thought you meant a 32-bit version of DUST.

Only sentinels use normal plates. And they don't really need to move any other direction than forward.

Agree about the witch hunt. I never really learned to wiggle-wiggle well but i keep trying.
It's obviously a learned skill, just like aiming, which make encounters more interesting: two opponents matching skills over multiple categories: positioning, cover, timing, movement, ammo management, aiming, strafing....i don't understand where the wiggle-wiggle witch hunt is coming from, but imo it's definitely not healthy for the game.
I do understand completely concerns about the game engine not being able to track suits due to framerate limitations, and reluctantly support the strafe reduction for that reason only. If/When framerate goes up in the future i want strafe to go up with it.

Any ETA on the next hotfix? I'm honestly surprised at how quickly tiericide is being added, and the powercore idea visually brings to mind something similar to Fallout 4's new Power Armor: http://youtu.be/iYil155lIsM
Good to see the status update. Will be interested to see how the changes affect gameplay!
PS. Will dropsuits ever get a redesign/added feature like vehicles have? Specifically, an 'opportunities of engagement' type of thing.
