Collect what? The unopened boxes? Officer weapons? Officer weapons for sure. I kill one kitten for every officer weapon sold to Vendor.
Thanks for the clarification. Sounds like you're foreshadowing the crafting stuff....
Agreed on the killing kittens part. I've never sold one, and have no plans to.

Well, on the market, those items would go a long way up to the 800, if not more. Also, you might get more than one officer weapon in a box. And even an officer dropsuit.
That may be so Rattati, however even then I would argue that nobody but a new player would even be buying half of those things. (Looking specifically at the aurum starter suits for a start)
I had hoped these boxes would have some cool rare loots in. Officer sidearms? Officer weapons etc...
All of that being said, if you are able to implement even basic crafting / player trading in DUST514 then you will elevate to god status in my eyes.
Until then good sir, TRY HARDER!

One proto CPU upgrade, one proto PG upgrade, one proto weapon = an officer weapon of that same weapon? Never going to happen. Simply too powerful to turn money into Officer weapons. They might as well be on the market then. My complaint with the strongboxes is that I have very, very little incentive to get them. The odds are far, far more likely that I get something that I cannot use and the odds are still fairly high that I will get something I would not want. If it is an Assault Rifle, Combat Rifle, Caldari Logistics, Caldari Heavy suit other than basic, any Amarr suit, any Gallente Suit, any non-Logistics Minmatar, PLC, Mass Driver, Shotgun, SMG, Sniper Rifle, well, you get the idea, I cannot use it. An officer Swarm Launcher is worth far less to me than a single Advanced Assault Rail Rifle (my weapon of choice) because the officer weapons sells for less than what an ARR would cost me IIRC. You get Ghalag's Rail Rifle? That's nice but can you use it? Basically, until there is something that I can do with the 'good crap' I get I have no reason to buy Aurum keys. I might as well just buy the Aurum stuff that I would use. Turning Officer weapons into different variants would be nice. What I would REALLY love is to have my Exile Assault Plasma Rifle become an Exile Assault Rail Rifle. In short, we players need some kind of trading or crafting so getting an Officer weapon isn't "OH YE-, oh, nevermind." Collect them, save them. There will be a reason to do so.
Id rather a complex crafting and salvage system. But probably to much man hours.
Where killing a mercenary with a proto fit suit would yield you pieces of the suit and items they where wearing in salvage.
That then could be combined with other pieces and combined with a blueprint copy to make..
A proto suit with a Officer weapon for example.. You would get a piece of the crafting list of each of those items.
That you would then take and combine with other items and a BPC to craft said item.
Giving a reason to hunt and kill specific players and collect salvage from kills.
And a complex intuitive crafting system that could be added to. With a player market? There would be some mercenaries who play a completely different DUST as traders and builders. |

This. I am interested in the salvage rate from matches.
Getting like 10 boxes day from missions while having a terrible salvage rate would be a little too cash grab imo.

RND doesn't like me, apparently, and these kind of rewards -- if they hold up -- certainly aren't going to incent me to buy any more keys. sounds like bad luck, but there is a fine line between not enough officer items and too many. Keep using your daily mission keys, it should pay off.
I don't feel that strongboxes should contain anything less than AVD gear in large quantities to be honest. I know that you guys want it to be accessible to newer players, but 15 basic codebreakers? You said earlier that the player should never feel like they didn't get their moneys worth. That's not worth the money or time.
I could have spent 14,625 isk rather than the 330,000 I sent in logi suits trying to earn the key in the high WP game earlier, or I could have just tossed away 300 AUR to simply buy the basic AUR codebreakers instead of 800 on the key to open it.
Instead of all this fairly useless basic, couldn't you make it at least ADV AUR variants so that newbros still have access to it and it doesn't feel like a complete waste of time/money to everyone else?

Maybe true. It is a big difference between L3 and L5 SP.
Somehow I personally find using giveaway AUR gear practical. But again on the other hand on all full char resets I did use for example complex aur shield extenders (when shield was the only choice).
Aaand just realised: the op used five keys to five boxes, not just one box with that pile of stuff. My comments were based on wrong assumption that a box has random number of item stacks given out. In that case having only one stack would be weak in comparison.

I have never bought complex AUR plates but I assume them to be somewhere around 40-50 AUR each. So basically you bought them while having the chance of getting an officer weapon. It seems like the number of something it gives is calculated to be near 800 AUR. All in all its something that makes the game more interesting.
Hopefully they increase key drops before people start screaming pay to win (even more)

I HATE THE STRONGBOX CRAP! just another way for us to spend aurum. I open 11 of them on my alt who have enough aurum you know what I got... crap. std weapons, plates (basic to proto), and useless junk. nothing worth anything. not one thing I could not buy with isk. at least give us the chance to sell them back to the market or if we complete all 10 daily mission we get 1 key. I hate that stupid orange notification. that is always on if you don't have a boost is now on the doing it for the strongbox. |

That doesn't answer the question about making the worst loot you can get better. Getting Std gear from these boxes isn't really something I would expect or be hyped about. The possibility alone is annoying, as that gear is definitely cheaper than the key

I'm not asking for reliable officer gear, I'm asking for there to not be complete garbage.
You said it yourself earlier.
CCP Rattati wrote: The undelying premise was that you should never believe you got less than your moneys worth, not exactly what you wanted maybe, but it's not a win or lose slot machine for sure.
Getting 15 basic codebreakers is clearly not a winning prize. You can't even sell them for any meaningful amount of isk.
I could go out and do a pub match in free frontline suit, earn 215k in a few minutes, and then just buy over 250 of these things. But generally unless you are incredibly lucky and get that .5% loot drop chance on a key, you actually have to put in effort or real cash to earn them. That effort is not being rewarded when you have the chance to only end up picking up a few basic modules.
Hell, like i pointed out earlier, even the cash value isn't being rewarded. The AUR variants of them are 20 a piece. At 15, that's 300 AUR, less than half the value of the key used to open it in the first place.
This salvage system is absolutely a 'win lose slot machine' with its current loot table.
