The frontline suits are on the market under dropsuits. They appeared with 1.9 I think. Not on ps3 now but pretty sure they're ISK purchasable. Look fine for low sp players or, if you get em in a box, burning thro in an ambush or two.

I could have spent 14,625 isk rather than the 330,000 I sent in logi suits trying to earn the key in the high WP game earlier, or I could have just tossed away 300 AUR to simply buy the basic AUR codebreakers instead of 800 on the key to open it. Instead of all this fairly useless basic, couldn't you make it at least ADV AUR variants so that newbros still have access to it and it doesn't feel like a complete waste of time/money to everyone else?

Just got my first key. Was a reward for the "earn 105k SP in 1 day" mission. Allowed me to open 1 of the 5 boxes acquired from the other daily missions. 22x 'Pyrus' Nova Knives (STD version, no skills required).
A alt merc of mine had the mission "earn 21999 SP in 1 battle" as well as the bonus mission of completing all 10 dailies, both with a key as the reward. '''The keys are out there without having to spend AURUM''', which helps quiet the PTW argument still floating around... |

Not only does the Strongbox scam discourage me from ever wanting to spend money on the game. This crap where you want us to wait forever cause we'll have a purpose for it eventually is stupid too. We got new maps in 1.9 but still have a pilot suit variation that doesn't provide suit options. They have been saying the market is going to open since open beta. So now instead of crap i might use one day stacking up i have strongboxes full of crap i might use one day stacking up. You fixed one problem then saw recreating the problem as a revenue stream. |

I'm all about CCP trying to make money, but it seems the only way for the average player to gain wealth in this game is to grind in free/cheap suits.
Somehow, someway ISK generation needs to be easier for the non PC player. The battles I fought yesterday were a TON of fun, I think at least 5 of my 15 or so dom/skirm matches ended in clones. But it was still due to heavy lifting by the one squad on each side. It seems like it comes down to which squad can farm the militia/STD suits the quickest.

I don't think they were necessarily exclusive to the tourney. The weapons from the tourney have been given out in other ways since (and might be in the boxes as well, I don't know), so I don't see why the dropsuit shouldn't be obtainable in other ways as well.

I sincerely hope "Simple Trading" is gonna be like EVE's direct trading.
If it's the trade-in-same-station system, we'd need a transport system to change between all the DUST stations (that'd also be a cool feature, allowing me to torment Caldari mercs in their locals). I expect it'll be universe-wide though. Either way, I'll be happy.

Given the frequency of how often the Salvage Boxes are given out (I've gotten 23 just from today) I think the price for the keys is a bit steep... $3 per 10 key bundle isn't much of a value when you have no idea what you're getting and the sheer frequency is going to cause a pretty steep discrepancy by itself.
Consider, if you will, my anecdotal evidence:
I've gotten 13 salvage boxes from the EoM screen.
I've gotten 10 salvage boxes from the daily missions.
Considering that the going ratio for keys is $3 for 10... And if I kept up at this consistent rate... That's round abouts $48 a week just in keys. So, eventually, you're either going to be spending more on Dust 514 for encryption keys than your medical insurance or you're going to just let the salvage boxes pile up.
And they'll continue piling up until you start opening them.
So, yeah, unless the prices change, it's really just not worth it because of the frequency alone.

On my alt i've just had 12 strong boxes given as EOM loot lol i've received 33 strongboxes in total today (6 of which from missions) and on my main i've received probably another 20 from missions and loot.
methinks CCP are trying to convince us to waste money on keys because out of those 50-60 boxes i've had 1 key given as reward and i had to pay for instant boosters to get that

Can confirm, I was present during this particular set of unboxings. Definitely never spending AUR on a key.

Umm, I don't know if this was meant as sarcasm, but both of those keys required the use of boosters. I'm sure it's no accident that most of the missions that reward keys are some of the most difficult to obtain, a good number of them requiring the use of boosters.
The rewards from strongboxes are vastly disproportionate to the potential reward of using a key. Regardless of the people who have gotten decent rewards, Leadfoot's results should be completely impossible considering both the cost and rarity of keys.
Even if the rewards were better, the ratio of keys to boxes is still incredibly low. A 1:2 or 1:3 ratio of keys to strongboxes would be much more reasonable, and still leave plenty of incentive to buy keys. If someone has 30 boxes and gets decent loot out of 8 of the 10 boxes they open, they will be very likely to buy keys to open the rest. Currently, someone is lucky to get 1-2 keys for 15+ boxes. If one or both of those keys ends up being underwhelming, most people are very unlikely to even consider buying more. |
