LOL The "L33t5" took one look at this joke of a game and never gave it another thought. These uber l33t spaceship g33kz that play this game are nothing compared to the glitch leetz! All the kool kidz are playin COD. Not gonna lie the new cod is fun but then you get this nerd who goes jet pack happy and is a bad ass, makes me think this is bs. |

Kdr has never mattered tbh. But it can be frustrating, make a few Alts let them sit on sp so you can test stuff out to see what you like before going balls deep on your main. |

I am SO sick and tired of getting killed by Proto this and proto that. Mainly Breaches and HMGs. I ALMOST ALWAYS get them down to about 50 armour in my starter fit. And I know if I had equal gear, I would be destroying these people. It's so dis satisfying when you get killed to someone that is more SP than you in an FPS.
I literally am losing my patience and I don't want to quit but it sucks because my KDA has dropped so much this last week since I got out of the academy where people are equal geared. I had about a 6.15 KDR which has not dropped to 1.6 and dropping still fast. Which is ruining my chances of ever getting into a PC corp.
I have no idea what to do and even getting to an advanced level suit and modules takes so long.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I am considering buying the APEX Nomad suit tomorrow which hopefully will help even just a little. But I just don't know what to do. So many new players quit because of this reason but there must be something I can do to compete on a fair level.
Don't buy new stuff, just get into a squad if possible. A lot of the time when people are in all proto, the real issue is they are not solo. |

Two points.
#1 - If proto suits are barely killing your starter suit you're doing something right. By way of comparison, I played in starter suits for almost six months in pubs, and my KDR really suffered for it (TBH, it still is more than a year later) -- but I built up a nice wallet and I got very good with my weapon of choice, so when I did get the proto suits unlocked, I had enough ISK to fund them and enough skill to make them last. So, don't become frustrated -- you're doing something right and your day will come.
#2 - If you want to get on a PC team, play (or even better, mic up and squad) with PC players and impress them. I know when I'm evaluating players for our PC team, I'm much more focused on how a person plays rather than his KDR. Said a bit differently, I'd much rather have a player on my team that goes 1:10 and defends a point from being taken than a person who goes 10:1 and loses the point. |

Most corps that I have checked require a 1.5 KDR or higher as a minimum entry requirement. :( I want to be able to get into a good corp and play with the same team often in the long run. KDR is just a stress element that makes me afraid to fight. [/quote]
Most Hardcore corps wont bother with you then till your running ADV or PROTO gear in everything....... don't worry to much about the KDR, once your going 20/0 you dont have to worry about it.... and a good corp will spot a good player

1. Leave for a while and come back, you'll regain patience and have more sp
2. Join some squads who can support you
3. Learn to choose targets. If you can't take them, wait for support or hit 'em a little from a distance. If it looks good, start from a distance so you can run if he's better then u thought.
I run BPOs a lot fit with militia modules (basically a pink starter fit) and can take proto heavies with self preserving tactics. If you need any specific help, reply here or mail me ingame.

Squadding up only works if your squad isn't bad, problem is a lot of good vet players aren't going to want players without proto gear, take it from me. I specced into many different roles at adv level and rarely can find a good group because most the time when I am in proto squads with coms they just ***** at me that I'm not throwing down isk like them, regardless of my efficiency.
Some pro-tips from someone who doesn't use proto:
Make some militia heavy fits One with a militia hmg preferably the Minmitar one as that high base speed will help you a lot. What to do: Run with the largest concentrations of blues you can and never stop moving while going Dakka Dakka. A good sidearm for this is also the militia bolt pistol for getting cocky players standing still outside your HMG range.
One with whatever for operating small turrets on LAVs/dropships (I use a militia mass driver and militia ion pistol on a militia caldari heavy) Also grab a militia LAV and make it as cheap as you can (Baloch with a speed booster and light armor rep or Onikuma with a scanner/light shield booster and light armor rep)
What to do: Ride around in the LAV of your choice and quickly switch to the gun anytime you run into reds. It will take some time learning when to fight and when to flee but you will get the hang of it. Pro-tip: The turret always points in whatever direction you leave it in, so when you see some reds speed out of their engagement range, spin your turret around, then drive over to them. If you get good on timing you can speed quickly then switch to the turret quickly, this will give you time to get ready while your LAV is sliding to a stop making it harder for the reds you are fighting to snipe you off the turret. VS. most weapons even in proto unless they get extremely lucky with headshots you are going to blow them away doing this.
One with a militia forge gun (I use the Gallente militia for its decent armor and shield regen, because you're going to get shot at a lot)
What to do: If you can get to a roof top or cliff edge but if not just keep your distance preferably with some blues between you. Practice beaming reds of all shapes and sizes with the forge gun, if you get good at it you will almost always OHKO your opponent including all but the most brick tanked heavies. Which is okay because its pretty damn easy to shoot brick tanked heavies with a forge gun.
I hope these help, I am always trying to figure out ways to cheaply counter superior forces. |

To compete on a fair level you are going to need to put in the time to level up your character just like everyone else. I would suggest instead of spending Aurum on better suits you should spend it on Passive Boosters so you can earn SP quicker. When I first started playing I didn't go to the Academy you mentioned; I simply jumped into Public Matches without a squad, got completely destroyed by the other team, and began strategizing on how to win. Stick with your teammates. You can be a solo player in this game just fine but it is almost impossible to be a lonewolf unless you are a stealthy cloacked person with a shotgun. I have always viewed new players, myself included when I first started, as interns whose job is to get the veterans their coffee, assist with kills, and pick up scrap kills when there are some. I remember when I first started playing I would finish a bunch of matches with less the five kills, about a dozen deaths, but with 20 to 30 assists.
I have triple omega passives ticking and triple active boosters :) I plan to get SP as fast as possible. |

Best other advice I could give is to take advantage of all this new militia gear. I see many players just spam frontline suits until they get some standardized assault variant then quit the game. You aren't as efficient but if you learn how to make effective militia fits you will know how to make effective suits at higher levels. If I had 500 isk for all the cookie cutter or shitfits I run into I'd have a billion isk... sadly I don't ... DAMN YOU PAPER ADSes!!!
For example the biggest difference between a ***** ass militia light minmitar shotgun suit and better suits is a cloak... like wise biggest difference between a gallente medium militia suit with a PLC and a proto gallente assault with a PLC is armor rep. Remember, this game is mostly an isk economy game when it comes to newcomers. The most important thing you can do on your team is hide behind better equipped blues and add to the pain. Might as well have fun while your at it and experiment with literally everything! |

You'll probably hear this a lot but its the best way to avoid getting stomped as a new player.
Don't forget it's not just the proto gear, older players will also know the maps, the guns, the different suits strengths and weaknesses. It all adds up to a sizable advantage which will take time to overcome. This is No. 1.
Not that the other advice isn't good, but until you have the SP, find people to run with.
It makes it much more fun. Plus, you may get some kills because those Proto suits attacking you will have other mercs to worry about as well.
Not to mention some other fun aspects of a squad (like the one time I ran into some overseas guys, one of which started the match by playing the bagpipe over comms. Most epic start ever.) It will help relieve some of the frustration that is inevitable.
Lastly, lower your expectations. If you feel yourself getting too frustrated, take a break. The forums are good for sticking with the community and giving you hope even when you are not playing. Then you can jump back in the game and have more SP to work with, and have a little less frustration the next time around.

I have a 0.93 and have been in multiple PC corps. KD/R means nothing in Dust.
That is bullshit unless you are a logi who spends their time in the match repairing peoples armor. All relative stats measure a persons contribution in the match. KDR will not matter ONLY if your team is unable to run out of clones.
I have lost matches (Domination, Skirmish, and Ambush) that my team would have won had it not been for some pathetic assholes whose lack of care towards their KDR resulted in the depletion of the clone reserves. |

I know when to back off and when to fight but there are little to know fights I can take and the fights I am forced to fight I still NEARLY get them. I have played this game since beta but have made a new character by the way.
That kind of changes everything. You now know how new players feel and how the new players you stomped in the Academy felt. You should know by now that this is just the way the game is, new players are screwed.
Because, that's why.

It's important to understand, that "Core Skills" isn't just what you find under Dropsuit Upgrades. Core Skills can mean anything that has a meaningful passive impact on your performance.
Proto SKILLS > Proto SUITS
Anyone with decent aim, and head knowledge + proto level skills will wreck face in a Frontline suit.
Here is my list of choice skills that DEFINE "Core Skills" for dropsuit combat.
Under Dropsuit Upgrades: 1. Dropsuit Upgrades - 4 2. Dropsuit Biotic Upgrades - 5. 3. Dropsuit Armor Upgrades (and all skills within it) - 5. 4. Dropsuit Core Upgrades - 5. 5. Dropsuit Shield Upgrades (and all skills within it) - 5. 6. Dropsuit Electronics (and all skills within it) - 5. 7. Dropsuit Engineering - 5. 8. Systems Hacking - 5.
Under Weaponry: 1. Weaponry - 3 (only go 5 if you intend to go Heavy). 2. Handheld Weapon Upgrades - 5. 3. Light Weapon Operation - 5. 4. Sidearm Operation - 5. 5. Explosives - 5.
Literally, everything else outside of these skills is OPTIONAL. No matter who you are, and no matter what suit you run, the skills on this list will benefit you. These skills maximize your base and potential eHP. These maximize your base and potential mobility. They open up and maximize your base and potential EWAR capability. They increase your base and potential hacking speed. And the skills under weaponry combine with the dropsuit bonuses to dramatically increase your dropsuit fitting efficiency. Lastly, and noticeably... everyone one of these skills increases the ability of your beloved Frontline suit and other starter fits.
These are your "Core Skills". From these skills you then build into the type of suit and weapons you wish to use. So... I'm doing Minmatar Assault? So I want a Combat Rifle. I find it under Light Weapons and select the following: Combat Rifle Operation - 5. Combat Rifle Proficiency - 5. Combat Rifle Sharpshooter - 5.
Those 3 skills directly affect the behavior of the weapon positively when you shoot it. Those unlock proto guns, but more importantly, they increase the lethality of every combat rifle you will ever use (even your militia combat rifle becomes extremely deadly with these skills). The next 3 skills Rapid Reload, Capacity, and Fitting Optimization; are NOT required, but I highly recommend them when you have the extra SP to spare one day.
You would do the same for whatever sidearm you choose. Whether you go Flaylock or SMG.
Doing this will cost millions of SP; NOT counting the SP to unlock your chosen Dropsuit(s). So spend wisely.
Getting all of your core skills maxed out is no small feat. But it will make the difference that you seek.
Set your goals high, and shoot for the moon; even if you miss you'll land amongst the stars.

I just got my core skills to 5 and that's that.
Haha, I will be buying the NOMAD APEX suit for Minmatar tomorrow night which will be nice.
If that's the assault one then yes definitely, it's really good for an infinite use suit. If it's the logi suit then no that thing folds over like paper. |

You'll probably hear this a lot but its the best way to avoid getting stomped as a new player.
Don't forget it's not just the proto gear, older players will also know the maps, the guns, the different suits strengths and weaknesses. It all adds up to a sizable advantage which will take time to overcome. I know every map and fit off by heart.
This is my main point. |

That one's really good then when it comes to Standard level assaults you really can't do much better than the minmitar. Speed and good shield regen has the biggest impact at standard level versus armor and armor rep. Even better that it's like a standard fitted suit with proto slots. |

Nono, I deleted my main a while ago because I could not stand the quarters and wanted to start again. GMs were unable to change it and I could not stnad being Minmatar in an Amarr quarters anymore. However, I was so used to having all the passive SP that I did not realise how hard new players had it. It's such a massive disadvantage. I am playing the NPE as a vet and it's a nightmare. Thankfully I have the will to keep going but just about haha |

How much SP did you give up for new quarters?
Thunderbolt. verb and noun.

I mean ****... of the 3 i've seen (Never have I been Amarr main though I'll probably make one just to see) I like the minmitar the least lol. As far as I've seen its a tie between Caldari and Gallente. Gallente for cozyness and Caldari for spaciousness. Minmitar just looks cramped and uncomfortable. No way in hell am I burning my millions of sp over that though.
Not that it really matters I'm usually lost in Menus and don't even notice much my Walking in Stations. |
