I just got my core skills to 5 and that's that.
I am SO sick and tired of getting killed by Proto this and proto that. Mainly Breaches and HMGs. I ALMOST ALWAYS get them down to about 50 armour in my starter fit. And I know if I had equal gear, I would be destroying these people. It's so dis satisfying when you get killed to someone that is more SP than you in an FPS.
I literally am losing my patience and I don't want to quit but it sucks because my KDA has dropped so much this last week since I got out of the academy where people are equal geared. I had about a 6.15 KDR which has not dropped to 1.6 and dropping still fast. Which is ruining my chances of ever getting into a PC corp.
I have no idea what to do and even getting to an advanced level suit and modules takes so long.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I am considering buying the APEX Nomad suit tomorrow which hopefully will help even just a little. But I just don't know what to do. So many new players quit because of this reason but there must be something I can do to compete on a fair level.
It's important to understand, that "Core Skills" isn't just what you find under Dropsuit Upgrades. Core Skills can mean anything that has a meaningful passive impact on your performance.
Proto SKILLS > Proto SUITS
Anyone with decent aim, and head knowledge + proto level skills will wreck face in a Frontline suit.
Here is my list of choice skills that DEFINE "Core Skills" for dropsuit combat.
Under Dropsuit Upgrades: 1. Dropsuit Upgrades - 4 2. Dropsuit Biotic Upgrades - 5. 3. Dropsuit Armor Upgrades (and all skills within it) - 5. 4. Dropsuit Core Upgrades - 5. 5. Dropsuit Shield Upgrades (and all skills within it) - 5. 6. Dropsuit Electronics (and all skills within it) - 5. 7. Dropsuit Engineering - 5. 8. Systems Hacking - 5.
Under Weaponry: 1. Weaponry - 3 (only go 5 if you intend to go Heavy). 2. Handheld Weapon Upgrades - 5. 3. Light Weapon Operation - 5. 4. Sidearm Operation - 5. 5. Explosives - 5.
Literally, everything else outside of these skills is OPTIONAL. No matter who you are, and no matter what suit you run, the skills on this list will benefit you. These skills maximize your base and potential eHP. These maximize your base and potential mobility. They open up and maximize your base and potential EWAR capability. They increase your base and potential hacking speed. And the skills under weaponry combine with the dropsuit bonuses to dramatically increase your dropsuit fitting efficiency. Lastly, and noticeably... everyone one of these skills increases the ability of your beloved Frontline suit and other starter fits.
These are your "Core Skills". From these skills you then build into the type of suit and weapons you wish to use. So... I'm doing Minmatar Assault? So I want a Combat Rifle. I find it under Light Weapons and select the following: Combat Rifle Operation - 5. Combat Rifle Proficiency - 5. Combat Rifle Sharpshooter - 5.
Those 3 skills directly affect the behavior of the weapon positively when you shoot it. Those unlock proto guns, but more importantly, they increase the lethality of every combat rifle you will ever use (even your militia combat rifle becomes extremely deadly with these skills). The next 3 skills Rapid Reload, Capacity, and Fitting Optimization; are NOT required, but I highly recommend them when you have the extra SP to spare one day.
You would do the same for whatever sidearm you choose. Whether you go Flaylock or SMG.
Doing this will cost millions of SP; NOT counting the SP to unlock your chosen Dropsuit(s). So spend wisely.
Getting all of your core skills maxed out is no small feat. But it will make the difference that you seek.
Set your goals high, and shoot for the moon; even if you miss you'll land amongst the stars.
