Squadding up only works if your squad isn't bad, problem is a lot of good vet players aren't going to want players without proto gear, take it from me. I specced into many different roles at adv level and rarely can find a good group because most the time when I am in proto squads with coms they just ***** at me that I'm not throwing down isk like them, regardless of my efficiency.
Some pro-tips from someone who doesn't use proto:
Make some militia heavy fits One with a militia hmg preferably the Minmitar one as that high base speed will help you a lot. What to do: Run with the largest concentrations of blues you can and never stop moving while going Dakka Dakka. A good sidearm for this is also the militia bolt pistol for getting cocky players standing still outside your HMG range.
One with whatever for operating small turrets on LAVs/dropships (I use a militia mass driver and militia ion pistol on a militia caldari heavy) Also grab a militia LAV and make it as cheap as you can (Baloch with a speed booster and light armor rep or Onikuma with a scanner/light shield booster and light armor rep)
What to do: Ride around in the LAV of your choice and quickly switch to the gun anytime you run into reds. It will take some time learning when to fight and when to flee but you will get the hang of it. Pro-tip: The turret always points in whatever direction you leave it in, so when you see some reds speed out of their engagement range, spin your turret around, then drive over to them. If you get good on timing you can speed quickly then switch to the turret quickly, this will give you time to get ready while your LAV is sliding to a stop making it harder for the reds you are fighting to snipe you off the turret. VS. most weapons even in proto unless they get extremely lucky with headshots you are going to blow them away doing this.
One with a militia forge gun (I use the Gallente militia for its decent armor and shield regen, because you're going to get shot at a lot)
What to do: If you can get to a roof top or cliff edge but if not just keep your distance preferably with some blues between you. Practice beaming reds of all shapes and sizes with the forge gun, if you get good at it you will almost always OHKO your opponent including all but the most brick tanked heavies. Which is okay because its pretty damn easy to shoot brick tanked heavies with a forge gun.
I hope these help, I am always trying to figure out ways to cheaply counter superior forces. |

I just got my core skills to 5 and that's that.
I am SO sick and tired of getting killed by Proto this and proto that. Mainly Breaches and HMGs. I ALMOST ALWAYS get them down to about 50 armour in my starter fit. And I know if I had equal gear, I would be destroying these people. It's so dis satisfying when you get killed to someone that is more SP than you in an FPS.
I literally am losing my patience and I don't want to quit but it sucks because my KDA has dropped so much this last week since I got out of the academy where people are equal geared. I had about a 6.15 KDR which has not dropped to 1.6 and dropping still fast. Which is ruining my chances of ever getting into a PC corp.
I have no idea what to do and even getting to an advanced level suit and modules takes so long.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I am considering buying the APEX Nomad suit tomorrow which hopefully will help even just a little. But I just don't know what to do. So many new players quit because of this reason but there must be something I can do to compete on a fair level. To compete on a fair level you are going to need to put in the time to level up your character just like everyone else. I would suggest instead of spending Aurum on better suits you should spend it on Passive Boosters so you can earn SP quicker. When I first started playing I didn't go to the Academy you mentioned; I simply jumped into Public Matches without a squad, got completely destroyed by the other team, and began strategizing on how to win. Stick with your teammates. You can be a solo player in this game just fine but it is almost impossible to be a lonewolf unless you are a stealthy cloacked person with a shotgun. I have always viewed new players, myself included when I first started, as interns whose job is to get the veterans their coffee, assist with kills, and pick up scrap kills when there are some. I remember when I first started playing I would finish a bunch of matches with less the five kills, about a dozen deaths, but with 20 to 30 assists. I have triple omega passives ticking and triple active boosters :) I plan to get SP as fast as possible.
Best other advice I could give is to take advantage of all this new militia gear. I see many players just spam frontline suits until they get some standardized assault variant then quit the game. You aren't as efficient but if you learn how to make effective militia fits you will know how to make effective suits at higher levels. If I had 500 isk for all the cookie cutter or shitfits I run into I'd have a billion isk... sadly I don't ... DAMN YOU PAPER ADSes!!!
For example the biggest difference between a ***** ass militia light minmitar shotgun suit and better suits is a cloak... like wise biggest difference between a gallente medium militia suit with a PLC and a proto gallente assault with a PLC is armor rep. Remember, this game is mostly an isk economy game when it comes to newcomers. The most important thing you can do on your team is hide behind better equipped blues and add to the pain. Might as well have fun while your at it and experiment with literally everything! |

Haha, I will be buying the NOMAD APEX suit for Minmatar tomorrow night which will be nice.
If that's the assault one then yes definitely, it's really good for an infinite use suit. If it's the logi suit then no that thing folds over like paper. |

Yes, it is the assault.
That one's really good then when it comes to Standard level assaults you really can't do much better than the minmitar. Speed and good shield regen has the biggest impact at standard level versus armor and armor rep. Even better that it's like a standard fitted suit with proto slots. |

Nono, I deleted my main a while ago because I could not stand the quarters and wanted to start again. GMs were unable to change it and I could not stnad being Minmatar in an Amarr quarters anymore. However, I was so used to having all the passive SP that I did not realise how hard new players had it. It's such a massive disadvantage. I am playing the NPE as a vet and it's a nightmare. Thankfully I have the will to keep going but just about haha
You hated your quarters that bad? How much SP did you give up for new quarters?
I mean ****... of the 3 i've seen (Never have I been Amarr main though I'll probably make one just to see) I like the minmitar the least lol. As far as I've seen its a tie between Caldari and Gallente. Gallente for cozyness and Caldari for spaciousness. Minmitar just looks cramped and uncomfortable. No way in hell am I burning my millions of sp over that though.
Not that it really matters I'm usually lost in Menus and don't even notice much my Walking in Stations. |

You hated your quarters that bad? How much SP did you give up for new quarters? About 90M. I don't mind, I got the same name again anyway :) I still have a 14M sp alt I can play though.
You are insane if that's true... why are you still playing this?! BE FREE!!! By the time you reach 90m again this game will be buried... |
