Okay so I am currently running the Frontline starter fit. I have about 600 of them now. The *AUR* ones with the combat rifle for Minmatar.
I just got my core skills to 5 and that's that.
I am SO sick and tired of getting killed by Proto this and proto that. Mainly Breaches and HMGs. I ALMOST ALWAYS get them down to about 50 armour in my starter fit. And I know if I had equal gear, I would be destroying these people. It's so dis satisfying when you get killed to someone that is more SP than you in an FPS.
I literally am losing my patience and I don't want to quit but it sucks because my KDA has dropped so much this last week since I got out of the academy where people are equal geared. I had about a 6.15 KDR which has not dropped to 1.6 and dropping still fast. Which is ruining my chances of ever getting into a PC corp.
I have no idea what to do and even getting to an advanced level suit and modules takes so long.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I am considering buying the APEX Nomad suit tomorrow which hopefully will help even just a little. But I just don't know what to do. So many new players quit because of this reason but there must be something I can do to compete on a fair level. |

Squad up (either squad finder in the neocom tab or by joining a random squad once deployed)
You'll probably hear this a lot but its the best way to avoid getting stomped as a new player.
Don't forget it's not just the proto gear, older players will also know the maps, the guns, the different suits strengths and weaknesses. It all adds up to a sizable advantage which will take time to overcome. |

I know every map and fit off by heart. I know when to back off and when to fight but there are little to know fights I can take and the fights I am forced to fight I still NEARLY get them. |

Going stright to level 5 is onside good, but downside is you lack anything at start elese. At last take some average skils.
If you have no patience... not much you have to take.
Anyway you can always: - be more aware what is going on around you. - EWAR helps a lot. - try be smart and decide 'encounter' for your favor. (yes sometimes you must run)
I don't recomend you, for now, heavy dropsuit - little more HP don't equal better expirience from play. Head for scout or very fast assault/logi If you can stay in perma-run you will do fine and you will know where is enemy (most of times). Weapon don't have meaning at this , because you fast can change distace to make optimal dmg or withdraw.
And probaly formus give you advise: stay in squad ;)
Remeber one... now you aim for players that play very long and know most of tricks.
Not much time left...

1. Use cover more often. Give yourself enough time to fully recharge shield/armor even if it means breaking off the engagement and letting your team finish the job. Expect to get shot through obstacles from time to time; it happens.
2. Fight on the fringe. Don't let yourself get surrounded. Always stay on the outside of the enemy perimeter if you can.
3. You're playing on a network, so sometimes you will continue getting hit even after you are behind cover. Leave yourself an HP margin of safety so that if you continue to get hit behind cover, then you won't die.
4. You're playing on a network, so sometimes enemies are not really facing the direction that you see them facing. If you see someone, always assume that they see you too and are already facing you and shooting you. You have a choice: Take them head on and try to kill them first by facing them, strafing or weaving and opening fire; or run for cover before you begin the engagement.
5. Always maneuver next to cover. It might take you longer to travel, but you'll live longer.
6. If you have some buddies, squad up and use tactical maneuvers, giving cover fire and holding a defensive line. If you don't have a squad, try the HIGHLAND PRIDE chat channel for a friendly group of mercs.

If you are of equal skill with the opponent and they are using proto and you are using MLT or STD gear, then you will nearly get them before you die. Proto has an advantage. Try switching up your tactics if you want to take down proto gear with MLT fittings.

bring back Corp VS Corp battles with no isk/sp gains just Epeen rank on some league table and they will bankroll the HELL out of those battles.. which also gives nice isk sink for those rich protobear PC elitists

Fair enough, the biggest advantage in this game is still squadding up because they can finish off the enemies that get you and revive you afterwards |

But seriously there is nothing better then to take a proto in a militia fit, even if it took me three militia fits
That's why I run minmatar, when you die to my minja it's like getting slapped in the face with a trout cause all you needed was 5 bullets with your breach AR and you couldn't even do that

If you are "ALMOST" killing them then this is a good indication that you need to level up the proficiency of your chosen weapon. This will give you th extra kick to drive them over the edge. The second thing then is more hp. An extra module (shield or armor) You may want to change say a repair module for a reactive plate that kind of thing.
Just like in real life the rich man has a huge advantage over the poor man. In Dust rich means both ISK and SP. A better suit gives you more hit points and the ability to equip a better weapon. It is very possible for a militia suit to destroy a proto suit but the odds are on the proto suits favor simply because he has that extra hp to maneuver and that extra kkck to kill you faster. Also, he also has other skill sets that gives them the edge like say e-war. Even a heavy can benefit from that range aplifier and profile dampening.
One thing to note is that I don't think started fits benefit from suit bonuses. For example the militia scout does not get racial bonuses. If you want the racial bonus you need the basic suit. At the very least use a basic suit instead of the starter fit ooorrrrr use your starter fit with a better weapon. This is what I do to isk farm. I have a starter fit with a basic weapon for the extra bullets.Even of that weapon is basic it still benefits from the proficiency skills so, my basic X rifle will hit harder that your militia X rifle.
If all else fails have you tried the shotgun. The catch here is getting in close but once you do and if you have the patience there is very little people can do against a level 4 proficiency shotgun. Even the basic shotgun is dangerous. Ofcourse use whatever works for you. |

Most corps that I have checked require a 1.5 KDR or higher as a minimum entry requirement. :( I want to be able to get into a good corp and play with the same team often in the long run. KDR is just a stress element that makes me afraid to fight. |

To compete on a fair level you are going to need to put in the time to level up your character just like everyone else. I would suggest instead of spending Aurum on better suits you should spend it on Passive Boosters so you can earn SP quicker.
When I first started playing I didn't go to the Academy you mentioned; I simply jumped into Public Matches without a squad, got completely destroyed by the other team, and began strategizing on how to win.
Stick with your teammates. You can be a solo player in this game just fine but it is almost impossible to be a lonewolf unless you are a stealthy cloacked person with a shotgun.
I have always viewed new players, myself included when I first started, as interns whose job is to get the veterans their coffee, assist with kills, and pick up scrap kills when there are some. I remember when I first started playing I would finish a bunch of matches with less the five kills, about a dozen deaths, but with 20 to 30 assists. |

If you nearly get them, then it is simple increase your delta or increase you protection or lower you profile to get the first shot off and a jump on damage. I almost exclusively run basic fits except when alot of proto's are out then I run adv fits and I do ok.
Stop worrying about KDR, if you die 2 or 3x and take out 1 proto your cost is around 10K and theirs is 10x that so that is a win in my book for you. |

Don't worry about ruining your KDR on a new character. Mine started off at 1.2ish, and after a while it made its way up to 5.2 or so.
It's also pretty meaningless. Recruiting based on KDR isn't really a thing.
The Federation is not a defined region of space, of planets, of mountains, rivers, or woods. It is a vision.
