Just uncap the SP system that would give people a reason to buy 30 day active boosters.

This is absolutely correct. And I don't know if I can actually swing the weekly cap being raised, all I'm saying is that I will try. And having a long list of players supporting this can back me up when I start poking people. Moved the thread to 'Features and Ideas Discussion' btw.

I'll probably get this thread moved to "Features and Ideas Discussion" once I get in the office, notify people who have to be notified about such things, and see if I can swing something. No promises on the outcome, but I'll do my usual poking around. YARRR

Based on Arkena Wyrnspire's argument, I do believe that the weekly cap should be re-evaluated.

Arkena Wyrnspire wrote:Once upon a time, CCP looked at the SP system.
They said 'Hey, people are earning SP too fast, let's slow it down!'
Thus was the daily cap born. Nobody liked it. It was painfully restrictive and poorly done.
So CCP looked at it again. Unwilling to get rid of it, they called for a vote. A daily cap, a weekly cap? Should there be rollover? How restrictive should it be?
Weekly with rollover, people cried out. Nobody wanted the draconian restrictions. They wanted a softer cap. So CCP made the cap weekly, and said rollover would come Soon(TM).
It was still a paltry cap, but it was better than previously and people carried on hoping rollover would come soon. The cap became a little nicer as well - instead of cutting you back to 50 SP a match, it let you earn an entire thousand! But the rollover was slow in coming.
Months passed, and Uprising came. SP sinks increased literally fivefold. The pointless basic frame skillwall was introduced. Engineering and electronics had their skill multipliers skyrocketed. It used to cost 600k for a newbie to max them and start being able to fit properly. Suit skill multipliers shot through the roof so far they entered orbit, although this was later reverted.
But still we had that 180k weekly cap. Rollover had failed to materialise. There was silence on the subject for a few months until a dev eventually asked wtf we were talking about and said there were no plans for it.
And here we are now, years on, with that very same cap that was once called a temporary measure.
EDIT: Yarrr, and bless your soul Archduke. ^ This be how it happened. I was there and it is forever a black mark on CCP's honor.
Yarrrr.....

The Eristic wrote:...and I'd imagine 100% of our SP won't transfer to Legion because it'd cause exactly the same vet stomping problem that Dust has had forever, so likely no issue there. Legion needs to accommodate large differentials in SP baked into its DNA from day one. Wiping SP and starting fresh without addressing this will only delay the problem a year or two until after launch, when again you'll have high SP players stomping low SP players and the game would die out. No thanks. We're much better off designing Legion to elegantly handle a large diversity of lifetime SP, in which case we should be able to transfer our progress to Legion, because it won't break anything.
Best PvE idea ever!

Breakin Stuff wrote:
SP cap has failed to serve useful purpose.
New player retention might be served better with its annihilation.
Because once you devote 15 mil SP into cores and your specialty vet players cease being more of a threat than you are.
The main difference between a 15mil new player and a 60 mil vet is the vet has more individual fits mastered.
This I agree with. The SP cap was suppose to be temporary but ended up being a permanent option since CCP did not bother to ask players after the Uprising 1.5 update. People couldn't make up their minds at the time. coming from a person sitting on 42 million SP we need something to keep the NPE retention rate high. It would need to start with the SP cap being fixed. Also keep in mind not everyone can play everyday out the week so they literally are screwed over when a new SP week starts, they will miss out on the SP they did not claim last week and have no way of claiming it.
The key difference between vets and new players Like breakin stuff said is the SP spent in dropsuit upgrades as well as the vets having masted multiple individual fits. That is it. Otherwise give a new player some time to reach at least 5 million in skill points to max out armor and shields with maximizing space capacity next.
So should we implement a SP rollover system to help people who missed a week catch back up? Plausible. Remove the 1000 Sp cap and replace it with how many war points you've earned equals the amount of Sp you gain 1wp=1sp? Very Plausible, this would keep players in the game as well as help out new players who want to catch up fast.
I'm moving more towards removing the 1000 sp limiter and replace it with 1wp=1sp after you exhausted the SP cap. Removing the SP cap, increasing the SP cap, or removing the 1000sp limit after capping would indeed do the following:
Atiim wrote: Keep in mind that few people purchase Active Boosters due to how little the SP cap is, allowing them to cap out well before the week is over. If you raise the SP cap, it'll take more time and effort to cap out, which results in:
Increased play times Increased incentive to spend AUR on Active Boosters Improves NPE by allowing newer players to catch up faster
Basically, it's a way to increase revenue and improve gameplay mechanics. Anyone on your marketing staff who doesn't see this should be slapped with a trout.
The only backlash is people playing this game non stop if the SP Cap was completely removed thus increasing the gap between new and vet players alike. What are your thoughts?

I think there is no functional difference between myself at 27 million SP and an obsessive tryhard at 60 million SP.
I still get to be a rampaging, evil buzzsaw, and they really aren't much more resistant to my gunfire than a newbie.
The only functional difference between me and another habitual sentinel player who only has 15 mil is I have two more sentinel suits maxed, and more than just my heavy weapons at Prof 3+ with a few points trickling into LOLmando suits.
There's a plateau where having more SP than the next guy provides negligible benefit beyond more loadout variation. |

Honestly, at 53 mil, it wouldn't matter for me much. The more sp a new guy can generate the faster he'll be able to go toe to toe with the big boys without getting discouraged along the way. I'm not sure how dead dust actually is or if there is any hope for it in the future, but I think this would be a step in the right direction even if it is going to be a scraped project.
