Let me give you a list of logical answers with no one using stupidity as an argument :
- some people like to use a lot of differents dropsuits and are forced to use militia/standard gear as a counterpart for their versatility
- using militia/standard add challenge in a game, because yes, some players look for challenge
- the redline slaughter in proto isn't fun or challenging, simply boring (redline in general is, no matter what your gear)
- some players are ruined or simply want to have some (or a lot of) money in their wallets
- proto players or pilots might want to have money so they can run dropsuits/vehicles in other games.
- militia/standard gear is really effective when you want to try a fitting completely different from what you are used to
- to have some expendable dropsuits like a drop uplink on a scout for the begenning or a standard HMG on a low cost heavy for close quarters combat is always useful
- to do good ratio/wp in militia/standard increase your experience and awareness of gameplay and tactics
- people have maybe noticed that since 1.8, HP don't really matter because any dropsuit is backshotgunned in a matter of seconds every game. Personaly I don't care, but I know it is really frustrating for many people.
And I bet there are a lot more reasons I don't think about that can justify the fact to play in cheap dropsuits on Dust.
Personaly, I'm proud to play in standard dropsuits and happy to have all the gallente dropsuits at my disposal. It is a way to play like spawnkilling and tankspamming.

This isn't about running proto 24/7. This also isn't about having DNS tags. The problem is that most people who complain about getting smashed simply contribute it to proto. Proto isn't all that great, all it takes is a good flanking and you're rightfully screwed no matter what you wear. What Himiko is trying to bring up is the fact that militia just sucks, and makes doing anything nearly impossible.
You can still be fairly effective running standard gear, and turn a profit. my average std suit costs around 1200 Isk per suit. You get approximately 150-250 thousand average per match. Which means you can lose about 9-20 suits and that will break you.
Not many people I know will lose that many suits in a pub unless it was a really intense match, which increases payout. Point being that Militia sucks, you can still run a decent STD fitting, be effective, and turn a profit. Spend the money.

Yeah but why run a std fit, when a comparable 'frontline' fit is free.
I have a fit that costs me just 5,000 ISK a pop, and only because I shell out for the ACR, when it comes to a WTF/AE/DNS pubstomp I know no matter how much I loose Imwill still probably make a profit and if I can ensure that at least one of them doesn't get a perfect KDR then all the better.
Unless your a Computer Scientist don't tell me how Game Mechanics Work.

That domi fit successfully held off 5+ pilots simultaneously for more than a month straight because they were too scared to risk anything larger than a T1 frigate. It also managed to drop orbitals at the same time.
It was a super situational fit for a situational opponent that had to do many things at once, and I dare say it's an incredibly good fit for that situation.
If you want to talk trash, that's fine. My team needed orbital support and I had one account available to provide it with. I did it with the one ship using the one fit that could. If you want to talk trash about it, let's go into how long it took for your guys to actually grow a pair and do something about it? |

I usually run proto suits in pubs with the occasional mix up of basic and advance, though I stay away from the proto weapons. Still making Isk though, even running the more expensive suits, though I'll admit, all these damned cloaked caldari and gallente shotgun scouts sure do make my Minmatar's nova knifing life hell.
Nova Knives are OP! Nerf em before you lose all your proto suits!
